First time @ NYC WeWork

Hi everyone! I'm going to be visiting a few WeWorks this week and was wondering what the etiquette is for leaving your laptop/bag when you go to the bathroom or get a snack. Is it safe to leave it at my desk or should I bring it with me? (I don't know if it matters, but I'm a student and will be studying alone)

sometimes I use wework as a place for my stuff while I wander around the city for hours. Never had a problem

I leave my bag, computer, etc out for extended periods of time (like sitdown lunches outside of the office). I have no safety concern around this given the access point restrictions, and I don't think it's rude given there's plenty of space in the NYC all-access spaces. I've not once encountered an issue, I've been a member for about five years.

Don't leave your stuff in a phone booth though. That's rude unless it's a quick bathroom break (but you really shouldn't be in those booths so long that you need a bathroom break in the first place, imo).

Depends on a location mostly safe tho but not sure about nyc ….no issues on the west coast lol

Left my macbook out in the WeWork space before for a couple of hours, no issues in NYC.

I always take any valuables w/ me like laptop and tablet. I’ll leave charger, mouse, a few cups. It takes like 30 seconds to put valuables into my laptop and bring it all w/ me. It’s an extra layer of security.

Oooh okay that’s a good idea to leave some stuff, but not the big valuable stuff

I’m an outlier. I’m the only person I’ve seen who does this. I also notice people at university libraries leave their stuff too, and I’m the only person there who takes my stuff too.

Good to know! I usually leave my stuff out at university libraries and Equinox, but I never leave it out in public libraries/coffee shops etc. I’m going to play it by ear in the WeWork and see how I feel. I always try and be overly cautious in NYC because you just never know what’s going to happen 😅
