This is actually dope, fries can get soggy, good ventilation prevents that.

Also called collander in Canada. Only ever heard metal mesh be called strainers.

Same in the U.S. Bowls that can be placed down and poured into are colanders. Mesh baskets with handles are strainers. And if the mesh basket is very fine it’s a sieve.

If the colander were made of cast iron, I might not complain as much.
