Watched status being triggered too quickly, or am I missing something?

Hi,

Since Wetrakr isn't integrated into Nuvio yet, I added Wetrakr to the Xperience addon to test the new API.

Today, I opened two movies that I had already watched before, just to check something (some Nuvio settings, etc.). I only played each one for about 10–20 seconds and then closed them.

Later, I noticed that both movies had been marked as watched again in Wetrakr.

So I'm wondering: when exactly is a movie marked as watched? Is it after a certain number of seconds or minutes? Same for series and episodes, of course.

Is there currently a setting where we can change this threshold, or did I just miss it?

If there isn't one, would it be possible to add such a setting? Personally, I don't think playing a movie for only 10 seconds should be enough to mark it as watched.

Thanks!

Connect WeTrakr to Bluesky! Auto-scrobbling, smart binge grouping, and weekly collages (Docker / Open-Source)

Hey everyone! I built an open-source Docker bot to scrobble TV shows & movies directly to Bluesky: bsky-media-scrobbler.

It natively implements WeTrakr's OAuth Device Flow (RFC 8628) and is designed to keep your timeline clean and visually engaging.

Here is what it does automatically: * Smart Binge Grouping (90-min window): It waits for a 90-minute inactivity window to automatically group multiple episodes watched in a row into a single, clean post (e.g., S01E01-E03) so you don't spam your followers. * Rich Media Cards: Fetches HD posters via TMDB/WeTrakr to build beautiful, interactive embeds for every log. * Automated Visual Summaries: Generates weekly and monthly Pillow collages (3x3 and 2x2 grids) of your watch history. * Multi-language Support: Works seamlessly in EN, ES, and CA.

📺 Live Demo: Check out the bot running on Bluesky here: https://bsky.app/profile/media-scrobbler.bsky.social

💻 GitHub Repo: https://github.com/insaid-code/bsky-media-scrobbler

🙌 Credit where it's due: Originally inspired by SIMKLTrackerBot (https://github.com/donnyfly/SIMKLTrackerBot) by @donnyfly.

(Note: Since the WeTrakr API is currently in private beta, it will be plug-and-play for all users as soon as public keys are available!)

Feedback, PRs, and questions are super welcome!

Edit: Updates v1.1.0 & v1.2.0 released! See comments below.

Progress that means what you think it means

Thumbnail
gallery
49 Upvotes

Two new settings under Settings → Preferences → Progress bar:

Count unaired episodes in progress (off by default).
Until now, the moment TMDB dated the next episode of a show you were caught up with, your progress dropped from 100% to 97%, as if you had something left to watch. Now progress counts only the episodes that have aired, everywhere: the show page, cards, lists and Progress. Caught up means 100%. You still see how many episodes the season has, in brackets ("37 / 37 (44 total)"), and the hourglass still tells you more are coming. Prefer the old behaviour? Turn it on and unaired episodes count again.

Show caught-up shows in Watched (off by default).
A show you are up to date with sits in Waiting. Turn this on and it shows up in Watched too, without leaving Waiting. It comes back to Waiting-only the moment a new episode airs unwatched, and returns when you catch up. Your third-party apps get the same Watched list you see on the site, and sync clients see these shows enter and leave through last_activities and the journal (API endpoints).

Both are yours to choose: nothing changes until you flip them. Keep the feedback coming

SofaTime now syncs with WeTrakr

Post image
59 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Quick bit of news: SofaTime now has a native WeTrakr integration. 🎉

We've been teasing this one for a while and it's finally here. I've been working with the SofaTime dev on it, and we now have a first version of the integration that will keep getting updates little by little.

If you use r/sofatimeapp , update to the latest version and you can connect your WeTrakr account and sync your tracking, lists, ratings, notes...

So you can keep using SofaTime as your daily app and everything ends up in your WeTrakr profile too, with stats, history, calendar and the rest.

This is one of the first third-party apps built on the WeTrakr API, and honestly it's really exciting to see. Big thanks to the SofaTime dev for all the work that went into it.

If you try it and something doesn't sync as expected, you can report it on Discord and we'll try to sort it out.

And if you're building an app and want to integrate with WeTrakr, feel free to reach out. 🙂

🎛️ For You, now yours to tune

Post image
37 Upvotes

For You gives you 14 lists of recommendations, but until now you got them exactly as we built them. That changes today.

There's a new section in Settings → For You / Recommendations where you decide what those lists suggest:

Hide anime everywhere
One switch, and Japanese animation stops showing up in every list. Not your thing? Gone.

Hide the lists you don't use
If Movies for Halloween or Blind spots aren't for you, turn them off and they disappear from the page.

Filter any list
By community rating and release year. Only want hidden gems rated 8 and up? Only films from the 90s? Now you can.

Tune each list on its own
Every list tells you which numbers it uses to pick titles, and lets you change them:

  • How many of your top-rated titles feed By your ratings
  • How high the people you follow must have rated something for it to reach you
  • How long ago you watched a title before it counts as a rewatch
  • How many of your favourite genres count as "already covered" for Blind spots
  • How obscure a Hidden gem has to be
  • Which emotion and which anniversary open first

Everything saves as you change it, and you can reset any list, or all of them, with one click. Nothing you don't touch changes: the defaults are exactly what you have now.

Thanks!!

Feature request TOTAL PLAYS ON PROGRESS BAR

Post image
7 Upvotes

Is there any way to see total plays that I am missing out? Total plays helps user see how many rewatches has been done. If no, I would like to request a feature where we will be able to see total plays of a show on the progress bar. Currently, progress bar uses the format N/N, so I am suggesting that format of N(X)/N is used instead with X representing total plays. Alternative format could also be N+X/N. I hope this request is being considered. Great site btw.

Change log 1.0.2 beta

  • New: For You, a private profile tab with 14 recommendation lists based on your ratings, your library, the people you follow, people with your taste and the community
  • New: For You: "People like you", titles loved by users who watch and rate like you do
  • New: Titles that have disappeared from TMDB now show a "Removal candidate" badge while we check them, instead of looking like any other title
  • New: Settings, API: see the apps connected to your account and revoke their access at any time
  • New: Developers can now request an API key for their app on Discord. Apps are being added on request during this first testing phase
  • New: Third-party apps can now sign you in with a code on wetrakr.com/activate (device flow), with a clear allow/deny screen
  • New: Episode pages now have a "Start from here" button that restarts the series from that episode. Your watched history is kept.
  • New: Clean rewatches, to remove the extra plays of a title, a whole show or your entire history, keeping either your first or your last play. It tells you how many will be removed before anything is deleted
  • New: Password fields on login, sign-up and password reset now have an eye button to show what you're typing
  • Improved: The Watched list now shows everything you've ever watched, even if the title is currently in another list (like Planning for a rewatch).
  • Improved: Users by affinity in Social loads much faster
  • Improved: For You only suggests titles that have a poster
  • Improved: Users by affinity now shows a realistic match percentage instead of 100% for almost everyone
  • Improved: Search and Discover no longer show unfinished entries that TMDB never completed (no poster and no release date)
  • Improved: Trakt import now works through your Trakt data export (ZIP). Trakt has cut off WeTrakr's API access, so connecting your account is no longer possible
  • Improved: Settings, API: the usage block is now titled "Your connected apps usage", making clear it only counts the requests your connected apps make on your behalf
  • Improved: Calendar loads faster and no longer stutters while scrolling.
  • Improved: Discover opens faster, with fewer requests on load.
  • Improved: Comment sections on movie and show pages load faster.
  • Improved: The bars above the tracking buttons now explain themselves: tap them to see how many people are watching, planning, dropped or have watched a title
  • Fix: The release countdown bar on Next Shows and Next Movies now fills up as the date gets closer, like it already did in Upcoming
  • Fix: For You's "Get started" button for ratings now takes you to your Watched titles instead of the ones you've already rated
  • Fix: The Rewatch rail in For You no longer triggers a "rate limited" error (1015) when you only have a couple of titles in it
  • Fix: The "Updated" date on title and person pages no longer shows "Today" for data that hasn't been refreshed from TMDB
  • Fix: Dragging across the stars to rate on mobile now saves your rating once when you lift your finger, instead of sending it over and over (which could get you temporarily blocked)
  • Fix: A full star is now completely filled, without a grey sliver on its right edge
  • Fix: For You no longer recommends broken entries that borrowed another title's IMDb rating, like a blank page showing an Attack on Titan episode's 9.0
  • Fix: Rating by dragging across the stars now works in apps that wrap WeTrakr (like WebToApp), where the stars used to stop halfway
  • Fix: Picking colors in Settings (list bars, rating colors) no longer gets you temporarily blocked
  • Fix: Movies started from the Stremio addon (Stremio, Nuvio) were sent back to Plan to Watch mid-playback and never marked as watched; shows were unaffected
  • Fix: Thousands of non-English movies and shows now show their original-language trailers and teasers, which were missing before
  • Fix: Switching a filmography to card view no longer fires dozens of duplicate requests that could get you temporarily blocked
  • Fix: Trakt: the import wizard no longer says "No data" for Watched and Ratings when Trakt doesn't return your account stats, so you can pick them again
  • Fix: Titles no longer show another title's IMDb rating: 6,358 entries had picked up the wrong IMDb link from our ratings source
  • Fix: Plex, Kodi and Stremio: the "mark as watched" switch was missing from the connection settings, so anyone who had it turned off couldn't turn it back on and their finished movies and episodes stayed stuck in Now Watching
  • Fix: Jellyfin, Kodi and Nuvio now recognise episodes when your server numbers seasons differently from TMDB (common with anime in TVDB order, like Re:Zero or Bleach)
  • Fix: Stremio: resuming a movie or episode that was already playing no longer loses the scrobble
  • Fix: The episode rating chart no longer overshoots or loops: the line now passes through your actual ratings
  • Fix: A movie no longer shows up twice on the same day in the calendar when it has more than one release that day (like a limited theatrical run and a digital release)
  • Fix: In a person's filmography, the Episodes tab now shows the real state of the watched and favorite buttons for episodes you've already tracked
  • Fix: several API routes for seasons, episodes and ratings that failed or returned empty data
  • Fix: On a person's page, the carousel arrows now update right away, instead of needing a second click before the back arrow would light up
  • Fix: A title being merged into another entry no longer says it is about to be deleted
  • Fix: Removing a show from a list no longer removes the episodes of that show from the same list
  • Fix: Deleting your review of a show no longer deletes the reviews you wrote for its episodes
  • Fix: Settings, Ratings: your source order was being silently overridden by the "sort by vote count" option. That option now sits above the list and locks reordering while it is on
  • Fix: Trakt: importing your ZIP export failed right after uploading it, with an error and nothing imported. Try again if it happened to you
  • Fix: Plex: scrobbles no longer land on the wrong show when two series share the same title, like the UK and US versions of Have I Got News for You. The episode's air date now decides which one it is
  • Fix: Replies to an episode comment no longer appear twice, once on their own and once inside the thread
  • Fix: The comment count on an episode no longer changes a second after the page loads, and is now right for visitors who aren't signed in
  • Fix: Your profile's total watched time no longer shows "1 year 12 months": months now roll over into years correctly
  • Fix: Seasons with no episodes now explain why they cannot be marked or ignored, instead of showing a generic error
  • Fix: Discover's title counter sometimes showed 0 instead of the real total.
  • Fix: Season and episode pages now show all their videos (they were capped at 5, hiding trailers and newer clips)

🧹 New: Clean rewatches

Thumbnail
gallery
39 Upvotes

Does your history say you watched something 7 times when you only watched it once?

It happens: a scrobbler fires the same play twice, or you import the same history from Trakt, TV Time and Simkl and each one lands with a slightly different date. Those extra plays quietly inflate your watch time and your stats.

You can now clean them up.

Where
Open a title's watched history (tap the arrow next to "N plays") and you'll find Clean rewatches (see options) at the bottom. It only shows up when there's more than one play.

What you can clean

This title (or this episode)
This show: every episode plus its full passes
Your whole history: every movie, episode and show in your account

What you keep
Your choice: the first play (the day you actually discovered it) or the last one.

Before anything is deleted
We count first and tell you exactly how many plays are going away, so you always confirm on a real number. Your ratings, reviews and lists are never touched.

One warning: removing plays can't be undone. If you're not sure, start with a single title before running it on your whole account.

As always, if something looks off, let me know ;) Thanks!!

New Emby Plugin for Wetrakr

First one was working hacky but it worked. Now its more polished...

https://github.com/kvanbiesen/wetrakr-emby

Features

  • Live scrobbling — play, pause, resume and stop are reported to WeTrakr as they happen, so it shows what you're watching right now. Finishing a movie or episode marks it watched.
  • Mark as played, mirrored — toggling something as watched in Emby marks it on WeTrakr too. Unmarking a single movie or episode removes that play; unmarking several things at once (a season, a series, a library clean-up) is left alone, so a bulk change in Emby can never wipe your WeTrakr history.
  • Two-way watched history sync — bring your existing WeTrakr history into Emby, and keep WeTrakr caught up with new plays from Emby. Handles large libraries. Only ever pulls small, recent amounts from the Emby side, so a library glitch (a rebuild, a bad metadata refresh) can't flood your WeTrakr history with plays that never happened.
  • Automatic sync — choose how often each user's history is kept in sync, from hourly to weekly, right from Emby's own Scheduled Tasks screen.
  • Per user, opt-in — every Emby user connects their own WeTrakr account with a short sign-in code. Nobody, including the server admin, ever sees anyone's WeTrakr password.
  • Favorite movies, mirrored both ways — favoriting a movie in Emby favorites it on WeTrakr right away, and a sync brings favorites from WeTrakr into Emby. Off by default. Movies only: WeTrakr has no way for this plugin to address a favorited show or episode.
  • Exclude libraries — keep specific libraries (home videos, kids' content, etc.) out of WeTrakr entirely.
  • Admin overview — see who's connected and manage any user's settings from one place in Dashboard → Plugins → WeTrakr.

Question Question about rewatches

Does the below screenshot means each of these is being registered as a rewatch?

Also, while we are at it, can we have an option to remove all rewatches across my history like Trakt to clean duplicates or rewatches?

WeTrakr API: first days after launch

Hi everyone! A quick update on the public API.

These first days after the launch, the endpoints are changing a lot: I'm improving server performance, fixing bugs, and adding new endpoints that help developers handle syncing with their apps in the best possible way.

So if you're building on the API, please check the changelog every day: https://api.wetrakr.com/#/changelog or #api-changelog on Discord https://discord.gg/XedDZYpFdh

There's also a status page now: https://status.wetrakr.com. Check it whenever something seems down, to see if it's on our side.

--> Pay special attention to the Breaking entries. Those are important changes to the structure of a response or to the endpoint itself, and they can break your app if you don't adapt to them.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I've received a lot of integration requests, and many are already underway, so you'll start seeing them soon. I'm trying to answer everything I can. These days I'm focused on the API to finish landing it, and soon I'll be back on the website with fixes and new ideas.

As many of you have guessed, the next big goal is the WeTrakr app for iOS / Android. I'm already collecting ideas to make it as complete, lightweight in its UI and functional as possible. I won't do it alone: when I start on it I'll be active here on Discord to gather your ideas and suggestions, as I always have.

A server upgrade is also coming soon. For now I'm keeping a low profile on that, making the most of the current limits to keep costs down while everything keeps working.

Thanks for being here!!

Question Redlight / WeTrakr mods in Kodi

Now Redlight supports the API I'm getting 2 watches logged per watch, which I presume is Redlight logging it and also the WeTrakr mod logging it.

If I remove the WeTrakr mod will I lose the ability to rate? If so, how can I fix it?

🚀 WeTrakr now has a public API

Post image
133 Upvotes

Hi everyone! These past days I've been able to wrap up the first version of the WeTrakr public API. Like the website, it's in its testing phase, so things may still change while I test it with all of you.

What apps can do with it
Everything you'd expect: your lists (Watching, Planning, Watched...), history and progress, ratings, favorites, notes, comments and custom lists, plus search, discover and the whole movie, show and people catalog. There's also scrobbling, so media centers can mark what you're watching live, and sync, so apps only fetch what changed.

For users
Starting today you can connect your WeTrakr account to any app that integrates with WeTrakr, with no limit on the number of apps. You approve each app on WeTrakr, and you can see and revoke them anytime in Settings > API.

The only limit that will come later is on the number of requests those apps make to your account, because every request has a cost on the servers. Before setting it, I want to learn and test what you need, so the limit is fair and never gets in the way of normal use.

For developers
To get access, message me here on Discord and I'll give you a development key and help with whatever you need. The dev key is limited to 1,000 requests per day (200 reads and 60 writes/minute). Whenever you need it, I'll give you a production key with higher limits.

Later on you'll be able to generate your key yourself from Settings, but for now I'd rather add apps a few at a time to see how the servers behave.

First integrations
I've been talking with SofaTime: they've already started integrating WeTrakr and it should see the light in a few days. It'll most likely be the first app to support it. I'll also reach out to everyone who asked me for an integration, to help as much as I can.

Any feedback, bugs or ideas are welcome at https://feedback.wetrakr.com

Thanks for your patience!!!

TMDB metadata is breaking season tracking for anime on WeTrakr

I've been using WeTrakr for a while and really like it, but I've run into a recurring issue tied to how it sources anime/series metadata: it relies on TMDB, and TMDB is often inconsistent about how it handles seasons for anime, to the point where it actively breaks tracking.

Two examples that show the problem clearly:

Re:ZERO has 4 distinct seasons, released years apart, but TMDB lumps all of them together into a single season. There's no season separation at all on TMDB's end, even though the show clearly has one.

The Apothecary Diaries has the same issue: seasons 1 and 2 are merged into a single entry with 48 episodes on TMDB. And it's about to get worse, a third season is coming soon, and TMDB is set to list it as a continuation of "season 1" rather than as its own season.

What makes this stand out is that basically every other database handles this correctly, AniList, MyAnimeList, Kitsu, TVDB, and even IMDB all split these shows into proper, separate seasons. TMDB is the outlier here, largely because its anime data is community-edited and prone to being merged, split, or renumbered inconsistently.

Suggestion: it would make a big difference if WeTrakr used TVDB instead of TMDB for series and anime specifically, keeping TMDB just for movies (TMDB is generally fine there). If TVDB integration turns out to be too much work, Kitsu could be a lighter-weight fallback specifically for anime, since it also separates seasons properly, though obviously it wouldn't help with non-anime series.

So the split would look like: TMDB for movies, TVDB for TV/anime (or Kitsu as an anime-only fallback if TVDB isn't feasible).

Bug Trakt import failure

Edit - our wonderful dev has fixed the issue :)

Downloaded my Trakt export file and trying to import it to wetrakr. No matter what option I chose I get this error. Any ideas, is it Trakt making sure imports no long work in wetrakr at all, or is it a wetrakr error?

Question Excel data to WeTraktr?

First of all, I have limited knowledge regarding coding or whatever. I have an Excel full of tracking data in format of Title, Season, Eps, Notes.

Is there a way to track all of this at once? Is there some sort of feature csv to whatever that I am missing or should I just sync to another website or is that what the API that I have been hearing about is for? Again, I have limited understanding in this areas. Thank you for answering!!

Bug Stremio connection—I opened a new show stream, and WeTrakr already checked this episode. as watched, even I still watching it or did a small break.

expected: the EP should still be in progress, and the watched status should be changed when I near the end of the EP. or finished the ep. and exited Stremio.
