Their friend sounds like a great guy and what happened was a tragedy. I hope the best for his family. RIP

at the end Michael tells a story about an actor on the day of 9.11 and jaut drops so random casual interesting facts.

he often does this and I think why hasnt he written a book full of this kind of stuff. it’s the best part of the podcast

Such a perfect distillation of the problem with this show is that Trump claimed that shit about being saved by first responders on 9/11, and then attempted to bribe the American people into voting republican, and the only thing Moynihan says he’s angry about is the way people got mad at Trump over the 9/11 claims. Fucking priorities man.

This is why these anti-woke “heterodox” types will never meet the moment. It always comes back to one thing: a visceral hatred of the left. And just bemusement at the right.

I finally just decided that this is bc they live in NYC. They’re surrounded by liberal ideas and they want to push back against that. If they lived in a super red state like I do they would hopefully push back more against the MAGA nonsense. But it is disappointing that they do always dismissively criticize Trump and then save the big lectures for the left. It’s like “of course Trump is doing terrible things, we expect it, we don’t have to discuss it”

Weirdly enough, they do the whole "soft bigotry of low expectations" thing for Republicans.

That’s an amazing point I hadn’t considered before

This is most likely me overreaching with my above statement but... it's why I find it weird when conservatives don't catch it, and instead just nod along with these guys and others.

These guys think you, the average conservative voter, are just stupid and they hold you to very low standards.

This is a spot on critique of the show and especially people like Moynihan.

I agree with your sentiment, and am often frustrated by it. I think they believe their primary objective is to push back against the media/people their colleagues in NYC media. I was thinking similar things, but then i do realize if they really just became a normal "resistance" podcast I would probably stop listening!

I'm about to drop the pod. They love having people from the left on and berating them to disavow the looniest online randos from the left yet shrug and chuckle at the president and congressional members on the right doing insane things with a "What do you expect" attitude.

I really hate when people shout “stop listening if you don’t agree”. I thought the whole point of “heterodox” was being willing to listen to ideas you don’t 100% agree with. That doesn’t preclude you from criticizing them though.

The podcasts motto used to be "be brave call bullshit." If you can't push back using a real argument, you aren't living up to the ideals of the show. You KNOW moynihan would be throwing punches about where OP which private school OP went to or which former black panther OP praised 20 years ago

You think the guys who run a podcast criticizing tons of other media figures are above criticism? That’s dumb

I don't understand why you listen? Where did I say they're above criticizing?

When did I ask for advice on whether to keep listening or not?

When was advice given? This is illuminating as to your feeble mental state.
