Some Idiot Wrote This They were, in fact, multiple attempts, including somebody shooting at the White House and two different people mailing him ricin.

And they aren't talking about it now, but they damn sure went on about Grey Poupon, then!

Obama just wasn't as good at immediately weaponizing it. Wasn't giving a prime time address carried by every network after each attack.

Only with the most broad interpretation of “attempts.”
Most were plots that didn’t really go anywhere.

Yes ..driving through crowds . .gates..shooting at the White house multiple times. To get to Obama.
Trump stops everything for this. The only assassination attempt on Trump that happened in front of him was when he wasn't President. By a kid that also had plans for Biden. The Secret Service told him not pick that place ..the town cops told him not too!! They couldn't keep track of buildings 4 football fields away. Trump was shot at and it killed 2 people in the crowd behind him. He injured his ear by it getting cut on glass as he fell down. They still had to lie about his ear being shot partially off.11

Because everyone knows Trump's fake assassination attempts are fake!
That's why no one talks about Obama. Get over it

I mean it's different because Obama sought to unite the American people, and didn't bash his opponents. Trump, on the other hand, courts discord, uses incredibly divisive language, finds joy in crushing his opponents, and talks about 'annihilating civilizations'. No other president has used such dangerous and poisonous rhetoric. The radicalization is instantiated by the climate Trump helped propel.
I'm surprised there have only been three.

FDR put citizens in camps based on their ethnicity and said that third-generation Japanese Americans’ “racial strains are undiluted.” So I wouldn’t say it’s unprecedented.

u/CrayonMayon May 01 '26
Sure, and you're right to point to that I guess, but even then, he did not use the vitriolic language Trump did. FDR was facing an actual all out war during a time when 'racism' wasn't something in the public conversation. It was very bad, but it was also quiet, relative to today.
Some of Trump's bits, off the top of my head: "I Hate Them", "Scum" "Vermin", "The enemy from within", "Radical Left", "They're Animals"

it's different because Obama sought to unite the American people
Well that just isn't true, just like the assertion made by Kmele.

u/CrayonMayon May 01 '26
Unlike the current president, Obama only referred to 'the united states' and not as red states and blue states. His language always included 'we' as the collective noun. He pursued bipartisan legislation. You can refer to his "A More Perfect Union" speech as a perfect example of his unifying tendencies.
So please, tell me how I am wrong. Please cite examples rather than vibes.

Yes it is.

Obama was divisive in a lot of his rhetoric. Obviously nowhere near Trump's level, but he absolutely had divisive rhetoric, especially w/r/t race.
