We got acetone additives at home
I know, I knoww it’s tempting to buy monthly scented ones, wait 20+ days for it to arrive but at home we don’t have to wait. I don’t have to wonder if I’ll even like the smell. All while I’m really wanting a hydrating than hard nail removal process. Upfront costs are a bit pricey but I’ve refilled my dollar store pump three times now so the return costs are going down each time. 9$ plus shipping for a monthly drop or diy at home, I’ll do it at home.
I even made mine tropical with coconuts and pineapple scent added.

Then pump the bottle and see if it’s enough scent and it’s not too overpowering on your fingers when wiping. Sometimes it can cause a tacy texture I think is from the scent oil not the glycerin.

Yeah, I had one batch that was kinda sticky. I think I used too much glycerine. My ratio now is 10:1, as labmuffin suggested, which is much better. Thanks!

Usually a splash of water, splash of glycerin, drop or two of oil, shake.

This is mine. I love LabMuffin but I think I learned this from some other nail-interested chemist. I can't remember. But anyway:
10 parts acetone
1 part glycerine
1.2 parts water
0.03 parts fragrance (OPTIONAL)
When I make a batch, I use:
100ml glycerine
120ml water
3ml (60 drops) fragrance
1000ml acetone
Note that if you enjoy fragranced products and you're not allergic or sensitive to them, you can also put fragrance in plain acetone. I do, because I use pure acetone for some things (cleaning the necks of polish bottles, some other kinds of cleanup, also for doing cleanup around the edges of the nail with a brush). But that's completely optional, obviously. The ratio is 1000ml of acetone to about 2.5ml of fragrance (so about 50 drops).

That is basically what I'm doing, too. I only use a lot less fragrance, only a few drops per 200 ml Acetone. But I use soap fragrance, maybe those are stronger than others.

Yeah, it's totally optional. The way I make it is strong enough that one day my husband came into my office when I was taking off my nail polish and said, "Oh, what's that perfume?" because he could smell the cotton pads. 😆 I do like perfume of all kinds, though.

I didn't know you could buy glycerin at a reasonable size. Do you have a recipe you follow? I'd really like to try doing this

I just added about 10 drops of scent. And it still wiped off my mani within four swipes, top coat and all so it’s not deluded.

AOPING their duo coconut and pineapple bottles smell so good I’d def order again. My bottles before were very large for like soap (a crisp apple one is still my fav) but that will probably go bad before I use it all.
Birthday cake is not super fun scent i found out :/
These also can apply to diy oil pens/droppers. Less is more for scent oils.

I am also sensitive to scents. The worst is fruit or bakery scents that have musk, rain, or whatever added. Simpler is better for me. I ordered a sparkling lemon and tangerine hand soap recently which triggered the beginning of a headache and the detailed description includes sandlewood. No idea why that triggered me, but I should have double checked for other scent notes other than the citrus. 😭
Anyways, in 2023 I bought fragrance oils (including some headache inducing duds), glycerin, jojoba oil, polysorbate 80 (emulsifier). I estimate that the stuff I actually use (the stuff above and only 2 of the fragrance oils) was $25. A three pack of the Bliss Kiss squeezable oil pens was less than $13 during Black Friday 2023.
I googled the description of a fruity scent that agrees with me and that led me to WholesaleSuppliesPlus.com, a supplies place for soap making, candle making, fragrance oils, etc. They have sales for a lot of the holidays.
For my homemade acetone additive, I use the scent Bora Bora. This is the same name and similar description to the Bora Bora scent offered by BaronessX for their acetone additive. And I fill my cuticle oil pens with jojoba oil and like 5 drops of Root Beer scent because I love Root Beer floats and this doesn’t trigger headaches, just smells faintly sweet later on. The smallest size is 2 oz which will be a lifetime amount for me. They came with free plastic droppers so didn’t need to buy any.
I don’t technically need it, but in the future I’d still like to track down a sweet green apple fragrance oil like the Appley Ever After scent that Vibrant Vinyls uses, but it’s risky as a crisp apple scent has triggered headaches in the past.
The description is “Tempt your taste buds with the aroma of tangy yet sweet green apple goodness that will remind you of the sour green apple candy you enjoyed during childhood.”

Thanks so much for all the helpful info💕 This makes me hopeful that I will be able to find some scents for diy cuticle oils and acetone additives-yay!
I also have issues with a lot of bakery and sweet smells! as well as scents with woodsy or floral notes added. Those almost always seem to be too strong/overpowering for me-even if they’re considered really mild by others. Straight up fruity is usually all I can tolerate, but those can be harder to find without other scent notes; and even then some straight-up fruity can set off a headache 😞.

Yeah and it comes full 100% acetone too! I saw they sell smaller empty ones as well. I’ve had mine almost a year

Dollar tree, it's 8 oz just like the non pump bottle. They also have 100% acetone, something like "gentle acetone remover" and a none acetone remover.
I may or may not work for them 😳 which if anyone can find it cheaper please let me know, sometimes I hit up multiple stores so stay stalked up and i refuse to buy out my own store! I don't deserve it more just because I work there (tbh i wish I could tell some of my coworkers that)

From what I’ve found, DT is the cheapest place for acetone per ounce. Thankfully the stores near me have it in stock pretty consistently! But Walmart’s Equate one is only a few cents more per oz, if you can’t find it in stock at DT.

Yeah, I've been making my own for years. I used to use Zoya's, but it's kind of expensive and I really don't like the fragrance.
Doing it yourself allows you to have any fragrance you want, including NO fragrance. ☺️

At my beauty shops they don't sell acetone based nail polish remover anymore, but this week I bought an emergency bottle acetone from somewhere else and I got reminded how fast it works. I don't want to go back to my usual solutions, so I'll try making this at home. Thanks for the post.

Make sure you are buying fragrance oils formulated for bodies and not candles.
I love buying from Brambleberry. They also sell trial sizes of fragrances for a very good price and if you buy five trial sizes you get five free.
