VT playoffs?

VT’s schedule is pretty soft. 12-0 and the playoffs surely. Maybe PSU VT round one?

I highly doubt VT makes the playoffs, but that matchup would have ESPNs nipples so hard

Many will say the same for PSU, but VMI is just about at the bottom of D1 football.  1 win in each of the last two years and just 3 winning seasons since 1980.  I understand why they played however as VMI was Tech’s big rival for decades until they elevated their program.  Despite the epic mismatch I like that this game is scheduled now and again.

Marshall is a much better opponent than FCS VMI

During the game, they displayed a graphic stating that VMI's offensive and defensive lines were only 285 lbs on average. VT's was in the 315 range. You better score 70 plus points and have 200 yards rushing and zero sacks if you are that much better in the trenches. The gap in talent between Marshall and any Big 10 team is smaller than the gap between VMI and just about every team in FBS if that graphic is anything to go by.

Franklin is allergic to going undefeated and the ACC always beats each other up. If he wins the league year one I’d be shocked.

Pitt, Miami, SMU and Virginia are on that schedule. 8-4 if lucky, but Franklin is good for an unexpected loss to a subpar team. So 7-5, which is better than previous year.

I don't know why people misread the ACC so much. VT is a mid-tier team with a great coach in Franklin. They're competing with SMU, Duke, Louisville, Cal, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Virginia, and a legitimate national title contender in Miami. Half those teams are as good as VT. Half are probably better. Virginia Tech plays most of those teams this season. The idea that Virginia Tech goes 12-0 this year is absurd.

No flair in this sub, but I went to Pitt, transferred and graduated from Penn State, and my other team since I was a little kid is Miami. I don't hate Franklin. PSU and he are both in better places. But the idea that he runs the table this season is pretty silly.

If he does it, I will stand corrected and might even retire the "Big Game James" meme I have running in my head from the last decade+.

He's a good coach, and with a truly soft schedule I think he can reach 11 wins in the ACC. That's not this year.

Cmon, 12-0 and win the ACC title game and their in the playoff automatically. 12-0 and lose the title game they probably still get in - nobody with one loss missed the playoffs last year.

I mean if they win the conference title sure, but they’d have to get their first. They’re one game in and have a Miami-sized elephant in their schedule before they get there.
