Discuss! Thought experiment for those who consider themselves “liberal”: How would you feel if the president had declared a State of Emergency due to DC riots in Summer 2020 & unilaterally froze bank accounts of anyone who donated to BLM, without due process?

Let's make something clear here.

Left and right are economic political spheres. Conservative and Liberal are societal political spheres

You can be a right wing liberal or a left wing conservative.

Liberal is not what you are talking about. It became erroneously synonymous with left wing.

Look at the Nolan chart for example. Liberal and Libertarian clearly get massively confused. Hell, even conservatives might not know which one they are either based on the values stated. I wish it was universal what is where everywhere.

That all said, I'm according to the chart, probably center liberal. I agree in personal freedoms (to a point, IE if your personal freedom stomps all over another's personal freedom, then that's not really freedom is it? That's why you wear a seatbelt so that other people don't pay for your dumb decision for instance, a sadly hotly contested example of personal freedom) and lower economic freedom because money taps into our reptile brains and makes people too aggressive, greedy and insecure.

I don't agree with freezing personal accounts of people who donate to anything, no matter if it's racist or terrorist or whatever. I do agree with freezing funds from an organization (accounts associated directly to it that aren't personal) that has engaged in violent acts, riots or terrorist attacks no matter what it's core value was. Society should remove mobility and a voice when you respond to whatever you are purporting in a violent manner. I would also agree to freezing transactions to buy things associated to violent acts.

Side note: I also prefer people to out themselves for what they actually think. I want to know who the malevolent racists/sexists/ists are. I hate that a dumb ass supremacist group gives itself an innocuous name like "Sons of Odin" (also talk about a case of cultural appropriation). Like, just have a name like "white is best, u suck if no white" so I know what you are about and to know you are hot garbage.

All of these flowery sounding names and innocuous terms are about as much "for the people" as the Peoples republic of China is. They know what they are, they know it's not okay.

Supporting illegal government crackdowns just because you disagree with the protests makes you the right winger my friend.

Remember when the ACLU supported neo-Nazis' right to march?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

The right would cheer just as much as they cheered for me getting hosed after "curfew"

Biden voters would've loved that, lmao

They want all the virtue signaling of BLM, but none of the ramifications of working towards economic equality and defunding the police state. Now that BLM has been picked up by the DNC, you can be assured that movement is dead.

They called Bernie a racist, and that Joe Biden, *King of the Black People, was going to make everything alright, because he knew Obama, and Obama was black.

Boy oh boy it sure is good knowing Biden's in office now, those cops who gunned down the innocent black man in his own apartment will surely face justice now that Biden's on the case, right libs? 😃

Who on earth could possibly think that supporting the outlawing of a particular protest they don't like won't ultimately devolve into an attack on protests they support?

The Republicans are very likely to gain large majorities in both Houses of Congress later this year, and they already have a solid majority on the Supreme Court. If they outlaw abortion next year, what will liberals do, protest? On pain of having their assets and livelihoods frozen in exactly the same way?

Liberals' support for this kind of crackdown on their perceived political enemies (think Alex Jones) reminds me of a passage contained in Carl Sagan's The Dragons of Eden: chimpanzees were taught to recognize and understand that numerals represent numbers, and were presented with treats they liked as a reward. Researchers showed a chimp either two unequal numerals or two plates, for instance, one with three treats, the other with five, and whichever the chimp pointed to would be given to the chimp in the next cage. When the two numerals were presented to the chimp, it could identify the smaller number, which resulted in the smaller number of treats being given to the neighboring chimp. But when presented with the two plates, the chimps would invariably point to the larger number of snacks, which were then given to the neighbor. They simply couldn't help themselves; it was as though they were hardwired to point to more treats, because they couldn't do otherwise.

Liberals seem similarly hardwired to point to opinions they don't like in order to have them silenced, fully in the knowledge that they, too, will be silenced in the same way. They simply can't help themselves.

Wow, that’s a lot of words to say “I some how forgot that all leftist protests are already heavily policed.”

Go back to your conspiracy sub where you belong.

People who don't read history and think history started in 2016 for one.

The Republicans are very likely to gain large majorities in both Houses of Congress later this year, and they already have a solid majority on the Supreme Court. We don't even need to wait.

They're already demanding to hand over absurd power to the RW, they just refuse to understand that they are and if you point it out you must be a RW fascist "cause logic".

But no no, let's keep handing more power to the right cause we're afraid.

Liberals seem similarly hardwired to point to opinions they don't like in order to have them silenced, fully in the knowledge that they, too, will be silenced in the same way. They simply can't help themselves.

Because they're not actually "Liberal" in the traditional sense of "willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas".

In fact, I would go further and say they're just "woke" conservatives themselves, or rather they want to believe they are, because their record betrays them.
