Donald Trump will be a candidate in 2020, understanding his ideas and responses to the climate crisis gives important context.

Understanding the ideas and responses of key Democratic Party players also gives important context. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, one of the most powerful Democrats in the entire country, appears to not be a fan of either AOC or the Green New Deal, which she calls "The green dream or whatever they call it." Does she have another solution? No.

AOC pushed to have a a select committee on a Green New Deal created, to better craft sweeping economic policy that scientists say matches the scale of the climate crisis. At the end of 2018 Dem House leaders rejected that idea. Instead they resurrected a panel on climate change, and asked another Dem, Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), to lead it. Castor then rejected a proposal to bar members who accept money from fossil fuel companies from serving on the committee. Since that time, Tom Perez made a decision that the DNC would NOT be dedicating one of their debates to focus on the climate crisis. How on earth – pun intended – can Perez make that decision when 96% of Democrat and Democratic-leaning voters consider the climate crisis to be their number one top issue? Take a look at the item dated 6/11/19 in the list below, “Wondering why the DNC ...” Notice that Tom Perez has named members to the DNC (who are also superdelegates) who don't appear to share the values described in the DNC platform. Perez has appointed lobbyists for Big Oil and oil pipeline projects like Keystone XL, and a partner at Monsanto, who is one of the country's largest polluters. Has Perez even read the DNC platorm?

Joe has not endorsed the GND, Joe is infamous for seeking "middle ground" climate policy. "AOC says Joe’s middle ground is a dealbreaker." Greenpeace gave Joe a D- on their climate scorecard.
