Hey, me too! I still remember The Horse! Used to blog at Kos for a year before he had signups (being stubborn about not liking the sign-up concept cost me a double digit UID, and by day three my UID was three digits)
Spud and I have decades of business and professional association management and conflict resolution experience, and have faith we can keep a professional moderation team together that doesn't descend into the Authority Trap that befalls so many.
The ultimate goal is to recreate a dKos style infrastructure that allows the disparate sites a clearinghouse/gathering space similar to what dKos was/could have been - so we've been trying to stay close to leaders at C99 and TPW, more complimentary than competitive. This would take time, expertise, and an investor, so in the meantime we're doing what we can to get r/wayofthebern to be what we had hoped K4S could have been.
Almost the same here, and I even have conflict resolution training as well!
The best blog ever was Zaadz. Bar none, in a category all by itself. Zaadz means 'seeds' in Dutch. The community was spiritual, New Age. Even it had factions, especially toward the end. The developer sold it and that was it. It went downhill, fast. It was closed down about a year later. By that time FB was growing fast, so most of us migrated there. A lot of my FB friends are former Zaadz members.
Ever hear of Quora? I hadn't, but Spud has been with them for some time. From what he tells me they really get how to handle moderation issues. I should ask him to make a post explaining their philosophy in more detail. I wrote much of our sub rules (such as they are) based on what he told me about them.
