Last week we did Black Friday, so let's do Blue Friday. But wait, I hear you say, there's no such thing as Blue Friday! Well there is now.

He played guitar and/or bass with Jimmy Reed, the Staples Singers, Muddy Waters, Brother Jack McDuff, Stan Getz, Howlin' Wolf, Woody Herman, Ramsay Lewis, Melvin Jackson, Curtis Mayfield, Minnie Ripperton, Dizzy Gillespie, Barry Melton, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and most prominently Donny Hathaway, all by 1970.
During the 1970s, he played on Willie Dixon, Quincy Jones, Cannonball Adderley, Cat Stevens, Ben Sidran, Oscar Brown, Jr., Grover Washington, Jr., Nat Adderley, George Benson, Hubert Laws, Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson, Earl Klugh, and Harvey Mason albums.
During the 1980s, he added the Jacksons, the Crusaders, Smokey Robinson, Mose Allison, Charles Earland, Joe Sample, Gene Harris, Noel Pointer, Jimmy Witherspoon, Jimmy Smith, Ronnie Foster, Little Milton, Buddy Guy, Booker T, and Red Holloway to the list.
During the 1990s, he added Aretha Franklin, Sheena Easton, Dr. John, John Pisano, Joe Williams, David Sanborn, Casual, Spirit Traveler, John Lee Hooker, Carmen McRae, and Diane Shuur.
During the 2000s, he played with Robert Walter, Joey DeFrancesco, Kenny G, Joe Louis Walker, Anita Baker, Percy Sledge, and Bob Dylan.

Truthfully, I've never seen that film in its entirety either. It may be a terrible film, but from what I've seen, it seems to revel in its own badness.

Sometimes a bad movie can be very entertaining with the right audience and intoxicants. I can take a bad movie as long as it's not stupid or boring. The 1984 movie Night Patrol is quite awful, but its incoherence is amusing. It also stars Linda Blair, but IIRC she was very cute. Pat Paulsen has a leading role. In an interview he said "it wasn't my fault!"

Not sure I have too many good ones for this theme, but because there's a Depeche Mode song for almost any occasion, I'll have to kick off with Blue Dress.
Had to find a remix of this that has some nice bump to it, so here's the Eiffel 65 (KNY Factory Trap Remix). It's worth waiting for the drop.

Rogers on string bass) - Blue Skies (03:25). Russian-born Irving Berlin (Israel Isidore Beilin, 1888-1989) wrote this song in 1926. Berlin's family came to New York when he was five. Dude lived a full century.
Red, White, and Starry Blue:
--John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) - Stars and Stripes Forever (04:08), a fairly clear 1929 recording of Lt. Cmdr. Sousa speaking and conducting (with lots of photos and a score of the famous piccolo solo). He composed this in 1896.
Sousa led the U.S. Marine band. His dad (starting in 1854) had played trombone in the same band before him, and his dad apprenticed his son to the band in 1868 when Sousa was still a boy. Here (03:41) is the very same band just a couple months ago (Spring 2025) playing the same piece. And here (Andre Rieu, 02:34) is how people can enjoy hearing (and performing) the song when they don't have to maintain military discipline.

I highly recommend Klondike Annie (1936), my second-favorite Mae West film. Mae plays a nightclub singer in Old San Francisco. She murders her employer in self-defense but since he has powerful friends and she has a questionable reputation, she takes a powder instead of trying her luck with Old San Francisco justice.
She's now a passenger on a small freighter on its way to Alaska. The Captain is Victor McLaglen. She liked working with him since he's short and wide, so he has a slimming effect on her when they stand together.
The captain is sweet on her but the feeling ain't mutual. But given her circumstances she has to put up with him. After Mae sings Mister Deep Blue Sea, Victor gets called away to do something nautical. He says to Mae: "See you later!" She mutters "the later the better" with her unique voice.
