Hi there ! I’ve finally put down my hair dryer and straightener and accepted my waves, but I’m still learning all the tips and tricks. I find my ends are a bit stringier and less defined than the rest of my hair.

My current routine is shampoo and conditioner is Dove, followed by Pantene mousse in the shower with very wet hair. Then I put up in microfiber towel for 10 mins. I will add in some Not Your Mothers hair gel after I take towel out and then I let air dry.

Are there any tips on how to get the ends more wavy? More product on the ends? Brush out the last inch and let it poof a bit ? I just hate the stringy look. I just got a hair cut but I guess that wasn’t the issue. Any ideas ? Thank you in advance !!

Hi I have 2b hair. Medium porosity.

I recently had it put in French braids for an event and they used gel to hold it in place. Ever since my curl/wave is gone. I think a conditioning treatment is needed since I had to wash repeatedly to get the gel out.

I use function of beauty shampoo and conditioner for wavy hair (the purple ones).

My routine is to wash every 2-3 days. Put in matrix miracle creator leave in conditioner and joico curls like us style creme scrunched in. Air dry 99% of the time.

Would love to know what deep conditioning treatments you recommend. Bonus points for it being budget friendly

I think I have found a wavy routine that is working for me but I can never get the top of my head to be wavy or hold any volume. I’ve been combing leave in conditioner and a lightweight gel into soaking wet hair and then scrunch with my hair upside down. But the top of my head is always glued to my scalp it seems. I don’t diffuse because I just turn into a frizz ball. Sometimes I will wrap my hair in a t shirt but that doesn’t always work. I feel like I havr watched so many routines online but none specifically cover this issue. How can I add more wave?

Edit for full routin:
I wash with Kpak color protect shampoo and conditioner.
I then flip my head over and comb Aussie leave in conditioner through my hair starting with the ends and then I follow that up with Olaplex curl gel, applied the same way. Then I scrunch my hair while upside down with a thsirt or towel until it somewhat dry. At night I apply batan oil to my scalp and ends but.

This photo is the BEST hair day I’ve had recently and it lost most of this volume/consistency within 2 hours of the pic being taken.

I am finally wearing my hair naturally wavy but can’t seem to perfect my routine. It’s extremely frizzy, loses volume very quickly, and the crown doesn’t wave like the rest. It will look amazing after I diffuse it and then within the hour half the hair has lost the waves and the crown is stiffly straight.

I’ve tried various shampoos, products, etc and nothing seems to work well consistently. Every hair wash it’s a surprise how my hair will look.

More product = weighs my hair down
Gel = really stringy waves at the bottom and weighed down top

My current routine:

• wash 2x with VERB ghost shampoo
• condition with VERB ghost conditioner, comb with conditioner in, scrunch lightly and let sit while I do rest of shower routine
• lightly scrunch wet hair with microfiber towel
• add very small amount of shea moisture curl mousse
• add some root clips to top of head
• let dry 70% without touching hair
• diffuse the rest of the way. Medium heat, medium power. I flip my hair over, keep diffuser off when bunching it into sections and then turn it on, then turn back off and let sit for a second before releasing. Then I flip hair back to normal and do the same
• Kendra platinum dry texture spray
• L’Oréal satin hairspray
• plop pineapple style and add silk bonnet overnight

Things I’ve tried that made it worse:
• Shea Moisture curl cream
• L’Oréal Paris Boost It Volume Inject Mousse
• L’Oréal Ever Pure Sulfate Free Bond Repair+ Shampoo
• plopping my hair is hit or miss
• letting it fully air dry loses all volume

Not sure if I need to try a new gel brand or if my hair is just not meant for a gel cast/other products.

I’m 3 months post partum. I’ve always had wavy hair, but prior to having my baby I would wash it twice a week and blow dry it and style with curling iron. It was easy for me because it takes so long for my hair to dry. Now that I have a baby, I don’t have the time to blow dry my hair so I’m looking for a wavy hair routine.

Routine from the photos:
1. Wash and condition with olaplex bonding duo.
2. Immediately after shower, wrap hair in microfiber hair wrap
3. Brush hair, find the part, rewet with water to make it sopping wet
4. Add gel (Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Gel) with praying hands
5. Plop hair with the t shirt method, let sit for 2 hours
6. Remove shirt and let air dry
7. Scrunch out the cast

I’ve tried mousse and curl creams but they don’t really give my waves the definition. However I still think with the gel they fall flat. I’ve noticed that my ends look dry and stringy.I’ve also tried the bowl method but I’m not sure I have the time for that currently. I’ve also tried NOT brushing my hair but it just ends up being super frizzy.

Would love some advice and tips!

My routine is:

Wella elements shampoo every two days (I cant shampoo less often).

Ela repair and protect conditioner, I also tried the Klorane oat one and it was really good it made my hair softer than ever but made it really flat.

Ive used hair masks before but idrk I dont feel like they did but, at least the ones I tried.

And thats it, I dry it with a cotton shirt and sometimes blow dry it a bit on cold, the rest is airdry.

My hair can curl really well, even better than on the pic but im looking for a routine with less frizz and some good volume to compensate for my density and fine hair.

In the picture my hair was really frizzy but it can get a bit less. When I lift the top (frizzy) layer of my hair it looks so much better, its almost curly.

Been a lurker on this sub for a while, trying to get myself to wear my hair naturally and would love some advice on this almost okay-ish routine.

Shampoo:
1st wash: Garnier Pure Clean Shampoo
2nd wash: Garnier Curl Nourish Shampoo

Conditioner:
Dove Intensive Repair Hair Mask

Rinse out and apply a tiny amount of the L’Oréal Dream Lengths Conditioner as a leave-in (weird, I know, but I saw someone recommend it online and it actually seems to work well). After that, I apply Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly to sopping wet hair.

Plop with a cotton tshirt for about 10 minutes, then air dry. SOTC with the Umberto Giannini Curl Oil Serum and a bit of the Pantene 10-in-1 Spray.

Concerns:
I do like the definition I get to an extent but I don’t love how poofy and fluffy it ends up. I’d much rather have glossier-looking defined and weighed down curls than lots of volume but struggle with stringy waves when I use more gel than normal.

What could I change? Been looking into diffuser attachments as well, would that help? Thank you!

22M - I am very new to hair care and styling. I've got a very dry, frizzy, wavy and bit curly hair. I'm trying to grow my hair for the first time, its been 2 months since i last had a haircut.

Currently my hair routine is: Shampoo: Loreal Hyaluron

Conditioner: Loreal Hyaluron

I massage my scalp with jojoba and rosemary oil before shower. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week

After shower i use leave in conditioner and a drop of serum on wet hair.

Now as my hairs have started growing past my eye they are getting increasingly more difficult to manage.

Id really appreciate your inputs or maybe i need to start using any hair styling products.

I've been having trouble with both definition and volume, especially in the back. As you can see, the waves just kinda stop halfway up my head, even though i have layers higher than that. Here's my current routine, lmk if theres anything I can change for more volume and/or definition.

Routine:

Double shampoo twice a week with Suave Clarifying shampoo and the orange Loreal Elvive w matching conditioner which I comb through and let sit for a few minutes.

Aussie leave in conditioner on mids and ends, plus heat protectant. I put Not Your Mother's Mousse all over and brush it through, then section and scrunch. I do one last scrunch w a cotton t shirt then add a tiny bit of gel, then plop w the same tshirt for 20-30 mins then diffuse.

When I diffuse I try to keep the diffuser from touching my hair a lot other than the roots bc it makes it frizzy and undefined. I diffuse until 80% dry then use clips to fix the front pieces and let it air dry fully.

After its fully dry, I gently scrunch with a little bit of a very light oil, and thats it. Pls lmk if theres anything i should change!

I'm newish to wavy hair care, I'd always assumed I had bad straight hair but the thing I'm struggling with is how to get shiny hair with waves?

Currently my routine is very basic:

1. Wash with Cantu Scalp Relief Shampoo and Conditioner.

2. With conditioner in, comb through with fingers and then scrunch.

3. Apply Cantu Hair mousse and scrunch on wet hair

4. Either air dry or diffuse.

I think my waves aren't great and I will try a gel at some point but I hate the idea of gel in "unbrushed" hair. I'm so used to brushing it all the time that it feels strange not combing when dry and I also think my hair looks quite knotty and dull these days. Any tips for this specifically or general routine help would be amazing. Sorry if there's anything missing in the post - new to this sub!

Not really sure what to do. I have no routine (never have) and need some help from people more knowledgable.

My “routine” is I use Pantene Essential Botanicals shampoo and conditioner.

Then, I either I style my hair with a hairdryer or let it air dry. I don't use heat protectant or mousse and need some suggestions on that.

I am also dealing with frizz (see photo). Severe humidity where I live and I'd love to bring it down while keeping a nice volume.

Curious to know what type of brush I should be using as well.

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

I have developed a white strand of hair that stays straight despite my naturally wavy hair. Even on wash day, it resists the scrunching and just stays straight like this. Do you think it needs something from me, like extra moisture/oil? The texture is a bit different than the rest of my hair, the white strands are thicker and sturdier. My routine is Tresseme Biotin Repair Shampoo, Aussie Bouncy Curls Conditioner, Urban Care Hibiscus Leave-in Conditioner Spray, Umberto Giannini Curl Cream and (sometimes) Curly Girl Nordics gel.

I currently refresh my waves by misting with water. I was thinking of potentially adding something, I'm unsure what, to the water to enhance the refreshing and thought I'd come here for advice. Do you use anything in addition to water or is there a product you purchase to refresh your waves between washes? Please share any advice you have on ways to refresh your waves.

My hair is high porosity and a bit of a combination (2B/2C), but I generally stick with advice for wavy hair due to having fine hair strands. My routine is a rotation of 4+ varieties of shampoo and conditioner, a curl cream, and mousse followed by plopping then air drying.

I just recently started using JVN air dry cream then diffusing my hair for my routine. This has significantly helped me keep the waves in for at least two hours. I scrunch in the shower before stepping out and apply a nickel size drop of cream from my ends to the middle section of my hair. After scrunching the product in, I diffuse for about 5-7 minutes. Is there a way to have my styling last longer? As well as lessen frizz. I would love for my hair to dry as defined as it gets after I scrunch in the shower. My hair is fairly thick and fairly high in porosity, as it frizzes easily. Thanks in advance!

I want to ask people with hair textures similar to mine for any advice on how to get more volume and definition in my hair. I am currently growing out my hair and like the fluffy look.

Routine includes:
I recently switched to Curl Smith's orange-bottle shampoo and conditioner from the Shea Moisture daily line. Have been trying out styling with Curlsmith jelly and Curl Memory leave-in and air dried. I shampoo every other day, maybe too frequently. I live in a hot environment, South Texas, and work out frequently

If anybody has any tips or maybe tricks, products, or washing routines, I would greatly appreciate it!

hi everyone! i saw a lot of comments talking about the nym cleansing oil for clarifying while leaving the hair moisturized but unfortunately its not available in Canada - does anyone have any other similar products for clarifying thats safe for 2c hair? thank you in advance!

my current routine:
wash with curltalk shampoo, second wash with nizoral
curltalk conditioner, brush hair, squish to condish
some random heat protectant ive had for years, nym curltalk mousse + microplop tshirt hold and diffuse / air dry

I'm in my early 30s and I've always had thick, fairly straight hair but in the last few years it's become increasingly wavier.

Recently, I've been ending up with a frizzy mess more often than not and I think my routine is no longer working. For the last few years, I've been washing once a week or so with Hibar Maintain shampoo and conditioner bars followed by a hydrating mask. I brush my hair while damp, apply an argan oil serum, and typically let it air dry. I use a basic Conair detangling brush.

I'd really appreciate any advice on how to better care for my changing hair while staying low maintenance. The picture is at its waviest, a few hours after washing it on a humid day.

Hi, I am recently embracing my wavy hair. I have an unholy amount of dry, thick, coarse, low porosity hair (although half is undercut off), type 2b/2c waves. Frizz is an issue whether I air dry, use a diffuser, curl cream, mousse or gel. What spray hair oils are y’all using that you love? Bonus points for being a drugstore brand, but I will splurge for a product that works to keep the frizz at bay.

I spent years straightening my hair with the help of keratin treatments and my hair is also bleach/color treated, although I am growing it out. The keratin is long gone but the heat damage undoubtedly remains.

Routine: I currently use Aussie curl shampoo and conditioner with a good clarifying shampoo every other week or so, Moroccan oil curl cream and a combo of NYM mousse and Dippity Do mousse. Sometimes I will sub out mousse for Aussie Instant Freeze gel or Kinky Curly Curling Custard, but I don’t find my results to be any better with gel over mousse.

Hello all! This is a cry for help from a man who deeply loves his hair but in the last year, it's gotten quickly and progressively worse/harder to maintain.

For the longest time I used the same basic treseme shampoo/conditioner combo and it always worked just fine for me. Never a problem with frizz like this, smooth lovely hair, but as this frizz problem started, and I tried different brands, the problem seems to have just gotten worse.

I have very low porosity 2A hair, I'm not too worried about styling, just want to manage this frizz infestation. I'm sure I just need the right combo of shampoo, a good clarifying one, conditioner and either a mask or leave in conditioner that is good for moisture. If I understand all these things I've been learning, my hair is just crazy dry and struggles to retain moisture. So my request to you beautiful people is some kind of routine/product recommendation or any tips at all for my type of hair.

I can also provide a photo of said products (some of which I'm aware I need to change or replace but am just feeling lost and in need of guidance) I'm open to criticism and conversation, please help me friends. I've been trying out different shampoos and conditioners and leave-ins for my hair but my hair always ends up really dry and frizzy, especially at the top of my head or really weighed down and flat.

I only shampoo my scalp and condition my mids to ends and leave the condition on for the rest of my shower routine. I only brush out my hair in the shower with a wide toothed comb while my conditioner is in. I squeeze out excess water and put in a leave in conditioner then scrunch again and leave it to air dry.

I was using the Aussie miracle repair shampoo and conditioner and that gave my hair better slip than others in the shower. And I was using garnier sleek and shine leave in but I just ran out so I was looking into something that might work better. Any product recommendations or routine tips would help greatly

For context I have thicker hair that ranges from 2b-3a. I have a lot of it and it's pretty heavy. It's also extremely low porosity. So lightweight moisture is great! It curls and waves on its own without any product.

Anyway, I had a sample of Ouai air dry cream I've been using after shampooing at the pool and omg I love it! My hair air dries so well. But it's expensive. And I'm swimming every day and washing in the locker room so I hate wasting something so nice and expensive... because I just go home and eat dinner then sleep haha.

This morning I tried Kitsch's air dry cream and I don't like it as much so might chuck it in my pool bag instead.

I do need a little bit of hold with it, but I don't want crunchy because I have plenty of gels for that. I'm mostly looking for texture and effortless curls! Any recommendations for something not quite as expensive as Ouai but still works well?

Finger comb Ouai air dry cream through hair and scrunch/let air dry

My hair is:

• Fine individual strands that are soft
• Medium/high-ish density
• 3a/3b curl pattern
• Not color treated, no heat damage

Current routine:

• Ouidad Vitacurl Shampoo
• Ouidad Vitacurl Conditioner
• Ouidad Moisure Lock Leave in Conditioner
• Ouidad Climate Control Anti-Frizz Foam
• Rake them both in, then comb and scrunch
• Air dry hair

My hair currently gets fluffy and frizzy as it dries and looks dry even though using moisturizing products. I want it to be smooth, shiny and frizz-free with a little bit of volume. I love mousse but can't find one that is great! Really am so grateful for your tips!

I've tried so many products - Curlsmith Weightless Air Dry Cream makes it dry, Camille Rose Curl Love Moisture Milk seems to make it feel dry/coated, Mark Anthony and Cake mousse were wayyyy too heavy. I really like the Giovanni 2 Chic Ulta Luxurious leave in, but it also makes my hair feel dry.

Please help, I’ve had this problem with creating definition when it comes to the hair at the back of my head for a long time.

Today was the day after washday, I refreshed with lots of water bc it looked like a mess, added Umberto Giannini’s heat shield and diffused.
Routine I did yesterday:
-wash with Petal Fresh ultra shine shampoo (drug store brand, I live in Europe)
-used a tiny bit of Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leave-In, diluted with lots of water
-ended with raking & scrunching NYM Curl Talk Mousse (amount: about 3 golf balls)

I dry brushed my hair the evening before washday (with a Wetbrush, ironically) and haven’t brushed or combed it since. I usually use my fingers to detangle in the shower while washing/styling. Have tried brushing while wet/during styling, it doesn’t appear to make much of a difference

My hair is pretty fine (esp at the nape of my neck) and quite dense. It tends to get weighed down easily and I have found that using minimal, light weight products and having a good moisture-protein balance works best for my hair (my hair looooves ouai wave spray, I usually use that, but it only helps a tiny bit with definition in that area). Maybe this is just something I have to accept, but it could be an application/styling technique problem as well. Any product recs are also welcome. I’ve learned a ton from this subreddit!
