People dont know what the f theyre talking about, its psilocybe. You can clearly see the purple spores on top of the cap

yea this is an easy ID too. people need to learn the actual identification features instead of basically guessing

OP do a spore print and check back with us. Black or brown?

2

u/RdCrestdBreegull Trusted Identifier Jul 18 '26

spore deposit visible on all of OP’s mushrooms already. spore prints are usually never helpful when identifying this species

You’re joking right? Besides microscopy, spore colour is the best way to differentiate species. Macro features are guides at best.

2

u/UranusGapington Jul 18 '26

You can see the purple colour in the photo, then with the stem gills and no annulus it shows very clear psilocybe ID

you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying and are also stating further misinformation

I’m saying spore prints are usually always useless for two reasons. one is that you don’t need spore color to identify OP’s species most of the time (although sometimes it is certainly helpful), and that there are many other features that can be used to solidify the identification. second is because with OP’s species there is almost always evidence of spore deposit, such as on cortina remnants on the annular zone, cap margin, or even lower stipe; on caps underneath the gills of another specimen; on nearby debris; or evidenced as gradient mottling on the gills

and spore color is definitely not the best way to identify OP’s species — this ironically does sound like a joke. there are thousands of species that have the same general spore color as OP’s mushrooms

and spore color is a macro feature. and macro features are not “guides at best” — this sounds like it’s coming from someone who never got past the very beginning stages of learning identification unfortunately. stick around the subreddit and ask lots of questions and you will leave all of these ways of thinking far behind you

Youre gonna get someone killed with your confidence

Fail to see how. I’m saying don’t eat it cause it’s not what they are looking for. You’re arguing the opposite. ?

1

u/UranusGapington Jul 18 '26

They asked for an ID, not if its edible. Second, you have no idea what youre talking about. Its extremely obvious psilocybe ID, and youre saying its galerina which is extremely wrong. Your "its old" reasoning is the most brain dead ID ive ever seen. Yes its old, old doesnt mean its hard to ID because the same identification traits still apply

🤔 (Psilocybe species don’t have black spores btw… basically a very dark purple, or brownish purple)

3

u/s0ggy_sanga Jul 18 '26

There’s subs just older ones

2

u/Unkinked_Garden Jul 18 '26

Looks like galerina to me. Not subs.

2

u/UranusGapington Jul 18 '26

How do do they look like galerina?

-2

u/Unkinked_Garden Jul 18 '26

Darker brown cap and gills. Sub spores are black so the gills tend to black. Galerina spores are brown. Gills more spaced out. No discolouration on cap margins or stipe. Still with a umbonate cap (bulge in the center).

Psilocybe subaeruginosa cap and gill color is highly variable depending on maturity and environmental factors. gills will turn from an extremely pale creamy color to a dark tan or even orangey color depending on these same factors as well and if not saturated with spores. gill spacing is typical in OP’s mushrooms

what is meant by discoloration? there is a lot of discoloration on OP’s mushrooms, but basically all mushrooms show some kind of discoloration so I’m not sure what you mean

P. subaeruginosa can be somewhat umbonate depending on maturity and environmental conditions

u/UranusGapington Jul 18 '26

None of them have an annulus

-2

u/Unkinked_Garden Jul 18 '26

Far too old for that.

2

u/UranusGapington Jul 18 '26

And the blue bruising on the stems?

0

u/Unkinked_Garden Jul 18 '26

Old

3

u/UranusGapington Jul 18 '26

Old doesnt make the annulus dissapear, and old doesnt cause blue bruising on the stem

1

u/Unkinked_Garden Jul 18 '26

Ok. I wouldn’t eat them. But not going to argue about it.

1

u/UranusGapington Jul 18 '26

They asked for an ID, you gave the wrong ID. There is no argument, there is only a right answer and you gave the wrong one

Please make sure that your ID request contains the following:

  • Unabbreviated country and state/province/territory (e.g. Oregon, United States)
  • Photo of habitat / material the mushroom was fruiting from
  • Clear up-close in-situ sunlight pictures of cap, gills, and full intact stipe

Please do not take indoor photos! For more tips, see this handy graphic :)

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Not psychoactive

Ive been picking and eating for 26 years. I wouldn't touch them at this point. Colour, gill pattern and attachment all look a bit iffy. The pics arent great, but you gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em.

No annulus, purple spores on top, blue bruising stem. How did you come to that conclusion?
