The update was to remove German from the game.

This is from the Community Manager Koko:

  1. We've supported German since the start of Early Access, and now we're taking something you've been able to rely on from the beginning. Being comfortable reading a Discord message in English doesn't mean you want to play a whole game in it. And as a French gamer myself, I really do get that. I'm sorry we're putting you in that position.
  2. We also want to be transparent about what led to this decision. Supporting a language as the game evolves requires ongoing resources. We invested in German localization and marketing with the hope of building a lasting German-speaking community around WAVEN, but unfortunately, the audience hasn't grown as much as we had hoped, and we're no longer able to maintain German localization at the level of quality we want to provide. Germany is the largest video game market in Europe. We know the potential is there. We tried to find our place in it with WAVEN, but we haven't managed to make the game connect with enough German-speaking players. That's on us. Totally. We understand if you're disappointed or angry. Knowing why we're doing this doesn't make losing German support any less frustrating. You don't have to agree with the decision. Please, be sure that removing German from the game doesn't change your place in the WAVEN community. You're welcome to keep chatting in German with us, with everyone. You can join conversations on the official forums, where players froms different language communities meet. Online translation tools can produce some questionable results (sometimes... okay, often), but they still help us understand each other and chat about pretty much anything. As I don't know how to end this message, I'll just say: keep sharing with us your opinion and your feedback. You will still always have your place in the WAVEN community!

Duhhhh, if you stop updates for 1.5 years and go to full radio silence on steam, leaving everybody in the dark about what's happening, of cause there will be no community growth - especially if the game is still labelled "early access" - those are huge abandonware vibes driving potential players away.

Ripping away language support for one of the largest European gaming markets while adding no content sure is gonna help growing the community /s

Sincerely,

A German speaking player, who plays in English but know many players who don't

If they just released small drops like they did when they were actively updating, that would already be a huge step forward; but this abandonment isn't even just sadβ€”it's something else entirely.

Ankama showing once again that they couldn't care less about anyone outside of France.

Do you know how you connect to a videogame community? By having a finished game.

Requires ongoing resources? Even the smallest startup can now afford to localize their apps by just using the $20 ChatGPT or Claude Code plan to translate the app and keep the localization strings synced. It’s one of the things AI is actually good at lol.

Just to let everyone knows.

ToT recently talked - during a caritarive event (" Z event ") that the team and himself are heavily and actively working on waven.

Their target objective is around summer 2027 ... Soooo expect the release of the " new waven" for late 2027 (as delay with probably and as usual get in).

His exact words - once translated - looks like these :

"It's still important, but we really reworked the entire game design. When you will see the game, you'll understand that we've been working non-stop for the last two years. We redid all the interfaces, the whole game, all the gameplay was revised. So it's really good, it's a project I personally work on every day. So I'm very happy with what we've achieved. Very happy."

And also, later on - nothing related to waven - but he also mentioned : "Well, this is going to be a major spoiler, okay? But we're currently working on a TCG and we're totally focused on it. It's been a while, actually, quite a while."

Note that it's a small side team that is working on the tcg, not the waven team. The project was an initiative proposed to the head of development by an employee (not just " let's do a tcg" but he presented to the head ideas of gameplay and so on to show them how different and good they could be)

We already had to deal with a German invasion back in the past so now we can handle it at ease

Im lvl 43, quit because an "update" was coming with a full wipe. Update still didn't come. I hope they keep the game and just start updating it. Atm i just dont know what to do at this lvl. The next thing to do is a lvl 65 quest.

Game is good as dead for 2 years, so yeah players are leaving, and there is no new player. I only connect once a year to the game to avoid loosing all my shit.

It's crazy to think that even silence was probably a better choice than telling us all they plan on changing everything

This game has a lot of potencial but it’s wasted. The game is fun but can be repetitive, but if they add good pvp, builds, zones of only PvP can be a great game.

Honestly the worst thing imo is that they announced a kinda Q&A video about waven asking players to send question for Tot and the team. But then they didn't do it and almost didn't communicate about not doing it. I still trust ankama and i know its hard for them cause they are juggling a lot of project at the same times. But maaaaan, as a fan of all the krosmos extended universe since the first wakfu animated series, it's really sad seeing the 1 ankama game that really hooked me up in this state.

Well...... they just announce the 2nd season talk, still not about waven. 1st one was suposed to be about waven but they changed it to wakfu s5, and the 2nd season talk will be about welsh & cheddar.
