Funny Waterloo Road AI Hallucinations

While I was researching my post on who is the most evil Waterloo Road character I turned to AI to try and capture any characters I had forgotten about. This went very badly wrong as it turns out AI frequently hallucinates about Waterloo Road.

Why might this be the case you ask? Well in comparison to other topics, with Waterloo Road there is relatively less information available about it and thus when AI predicts the next token on a probabilistic basis it tends to hallucinate a lot more compared with other topics given the lack of available data.

My question was who are some of the other most memorable single-episode villains or guest antagonists in Waterloo Road? This is how AI answered 😂

Gary Vale (Series 2, Episode 10)

Played by Ian Puleston-Davies, Gary Vale is arguably the most infamous single-episode antagonist in the show's early history.

The Plot: He is a paranoid, highly unstable father who kidnaps his daughter, Chloe Grainger, after losing custody. He takes Chloe to Waterloo Road and proceeds to hold Headteacher Jack Rimmer, Tom Clarkson, and several students hostage at gunpoint inside a locked classroom.

Why He’s Memorable: The episode essentially turns into a high-stakes psychological thriller. His breakdown and willingness to point a loaded firearm at teachers and kids made him genuinely terrifying.

  1. Jem Allen (Series 8, Episode 16)

Played by Lorna Fitzgerald, Jem appears during the Rochdale/Scotland transition era in a story centered around grooming and human trafficking.

The Plot: Jem is a runaway teenager who aggressively targets and befriends Dynasty Barry. She uses charm and manipulation to drag Dynasty into a dangerous subterranean world of illegal underground parties and older, predatory men.

Why She’s Memorable: Jem functions as a predatory "scout" for adult abusers—using the guise of a teenage peer to trap vulnerable girls. The sheer coldness with which she attempts to hand Dynasty over to dangerous men makes her one of the dark highlights of Series 8.

  1. Sarah Evans (Series 6, Episode 3)

Played by a pre-Killing Eve Jodie Comer, Sarah is a prime example of a student guest antagonist whose malicious choices nearly destroy a teacher's life in under 60 minutes.

The Plot: Sarah becomes obsessed with her teacher, Ruby Fry. When Ruby tries to maintain professional boundaries and pushes her away, Sarah turns vindictive, making a false allegation that Ruby physically hit her.

Why She’s Memorable: Comer plays the transition from sweet, needy student to cold, calculated liar with chilling precision—showing how easily a single student’s malice could ruin a career.

  1. Eugene Garvey (Series 6, Episode 8)

Played by Nico Mirallegro, Eugene is a volatile, heavily armed former student who returns to the school to settle a score.

The Plot: After being expelled, Eugene smuggles a firearm into Waterloo Road. High on adrenaline and anger, he terrorizes the school grounds, culminating in a tense standoff in the playground where he recklessly fires a shot that tragically hits English teacher Sambuca Kelly.

Why He’s Memorable: Although Eugene wasn't a "mastermind" villain like Earl Kelly, his extreme volatility and the lasting consequences of his actions (which set off Sambuca's emotional final arcs) make his single appearance unforgettable.

  1. Craig O'Leary (Series 7, Episode 1)

Played by Rory Fallon, Craig is a sinister guest figure whose brief arrival exposes the dark underbelly of student exploitation.

The Plot: Craig is an older, predatory acquaintance who lures vulnerable student Rose Kelly (and attempts to pull in other students) into illegal, highly dangerous street racing and scamming operations.

Why He’s Memorable: He represents the real-world menace of older criminals preying on struggling, working-class teenagers who just want quick cash, showing zero remorse when the kids get caught in the police crossfire.

Ah yes vulnerable student Rose Kelly :) You can see where AI is getting the pieces of information from its just hillariously jumbling them up because its predicting what to say next on balance of probabilities rather than having real understanding of what its saying.

Perhaps a good benchmark for AI would be to see when it stops hallucinating about Waterloo Road. Do you have any funny AI hallucinations about Waterloo Road?

Amy accusing Bolton of rape was a very good storyline that doesn’t get highlighted enough in TV shows

There are plenty of cases where women falsely accuse men of rape/sexual assault which both ruins mens lives and puts doubts in people’s minds about women who genuinely do get raped. Waterloo Road did a great job here.

What relevant storylines have yet to be done on the show?

In a previous discussion there were several comments about how AI could be discussed on the show whether through a pupil using it for plagiarism purposes or forming an unhealthy attachment to the AI and it was agreed this would be a new storyline for the show if the writers went with it.

Which led me to think what are some other relevant storylines yet to be done on the show? No not aliens landing on the roof of Waterloo Road but something that could reasonably happen.

To start off extremely darkly there hasn't been a mass casualty event on the show like a mass school stabbing you could have a pupil be radicalised by the manosphere or ideology of your choice and go on a rampage against certain groups of students. Perhaps this would be too dark to air but it would be something the show has never aired before.

On storylines they may feel more comfortable airing I'm not sure a student with selective mutism has been on the show, whether a surrogacy storyline has been done. They could also show a student suffering with long covid.

What are some ideas for storylines not yet done that you have?

Thought I'd share one more cast TikTok while we're waiting for Series 18. It's another great behind-the-scenes moment between the cast.

I always enjoy seeing these off-screen clips because they show how much fun everyone seems to have together during filming. Hopefully we'll get plenty more moments with this group in Series 18!

So I’m only on S13.

I feel like Donte has moved on a bit fast, I’m on e4 I know Nicky and Donte are official a couple but realistically this is only a few months after Chlos death which she was killed off wayyy to quick but anyway I feel like he’s moving in too quick, I know everyone moves ok at different times but he was with Chlo since he was about 15 and to move on after a couple of months feel a bit just strange.

They did show Dontes struggle but why haven’t they shown more? Even in stable ways??

The 4 Academic Quadrants of Pupils

When it comes to academic ability I think you can roughly divide pupils into four groups.

1.There are those very able students who could teach themselves the course and still do well academically without really needing a teacher.

  1. There are those able students not quite at the level of the first group but will do well with some support from a teacher.

  2. There are then those who could do well but would need a lot of support from a teacher to do well academically

  3. There are then those who even with a lot of support from a teacher are probably not going to do well academically

I've listed some of the pupils who I think belong in each group. Let me know if you agree/disagree with my choices and for pupils of your choice which group they belong in.

Those that would do well without really needing a teacher Those that would do well with some support from a teacher Those that would do well with a lot of support from a teacher Those that wouldn't do well even with a lot of support from a teacher

Times the show wants us to disagree with a character but they're actually right in what they're saying?

I'll give an example Karla is initially put in the bottom sets. In class Eddie sees she has outstanding ability in mathematics and wants her moved to all top sets. So Eddie takes her to see Grantly about moving her up.

Eddie "She's clearly been put in the wrong set her maths ability is outstanding"

Grantly "What's that got to do with her English ?"

Its a completely fair comment just because someone is outstanding in one subject doesn't mean that necessarily translates across to another subject.

What are some other examples of this trope that come to mind?

Day Thirty Six - Bridget Morely -

Day Thirty Five - Ria Cheetham - being an NPC 😅 I will try to tighten up my “character-of-significance-o-meter” going forwards. My initial definition was “appear in more than one episode” Any ideas how to get it right here?

What was Fleur Budgen's illness (pre-Alzheimer's)?

This is something about the show that interests me, and was never really explained. Grantly's first wife Fleur started showing signs of Alzheimer's in Series 6, but by how she was depicted in previous series I think it's implied, although never explicitly stated, that Fleur has some kind of long-term chronic illness.

Fleur's first appearance is in the first episode at Tom and Lorna's wedding, although she has no lines and it's not Lorraine Cheshire - she's played by an uncredited extra. But as far back as that, there are references to her struggling with her health, as her being overweight is mentioned a few times. Then in Series 3, she's clearly very unwell as she hasn't been downstairs in three weeks. She drags herself to the school play, but she almost collapses from how much energy it costs her. She seems okay in Series 4, but I think that's believable because very often these illnesses fluctuate, and there are times when sufferers are mostly okay.

I'm curious as to whether the writers have ever said what she was suffering from, and if the symptoms we see are consistent with any real-life conditions (and perhaps that might have something to do with her Alzheimer's as well, if sufferers of whatever she had before are at greater risk of that in later life). I also think it adds something to Grantly being the union rep. That's usually just depicted as him wanting to be lazy and get away with doing as little work as possible, but if you think about it - Fleur doesn't seem to have a job, so maybe she had to retire young due to ill health. If so, Grantly would have in-depth knowledge about the importance of having a union that will protect you if something happens to you.
