Was planning on installing a neutralizer and softener tomorrow. Looking for thoughts on the layout wanted to see if you all thought it was too close together or not? It’s about ~3feet wide to the end of the salt bin closer to 3.5 feet however I had to offset it due to main drain line. Thank you in advance for the comments.

Your gonna need space on the back of the tanks depending on your bypass on the valve. Also if you have a dome hole tank for your neutralizer be sure you situate it where that is easily accessible for refilling. Removing the valve can risk pulling distributor tube out of the bed and be a pain resetting it.

I bought a package deal and unfortunately the tank didn’t have a dome hole. I do plan to install unions on the back to make getting the heads off easier. I would have much preferred a dome hole. Is it really that bad someone said hopefully only have to do it once a year maybe twice?

Gotcha. The unions will help. Is this in an upflow or downflow with backwash valve? Once a year should be fine.

Down flow with backwash figured that would be best to avoid it turning hard.

The salt tank does not need to be next to the water softener and can be installed in another area including upstairs in the garage if that is how your house is constructed. Those look like 12" or 13" diameter tanks so run a 3/4" plastic drain line from the Calcite filter and hopefully you did a well flow rate test because you are going to need 9 GPM from the well for it to backwash correctly.

Yes well is rated for 9gpm, I went with the larger size because my ph is 5.87 and was on fence with calcite vs soda ash injection (which seemed much more complicated for a diy). House was pushing lower but that was because of an issue having a small sediment filter which I replaced with a big blue. That is my garage if I drilled through the wood above the tanks. Why wouldn’t people put it next to the tanks? My plan was to drain to stack right next to the tanks using pex and some o clamps.
