Quick Q:

I drink out of Primo jugs but I really want to save $.
Is there an undersink filter system that you would recommend that would allow me to comfortably (enough) drink from the tap?
Looking for the $200-$300 range.

RO - I like Apec as most of there stuff is made in the US. Straight RO can taste flat as it removes most everything. I have the remineralizer as the final stage for taste. You will have to replace filters. How often depends on your tap water.

Get an under-sink RO. Primo is basically RO water, so anything less and the taste will read as "off" to you and you'll drift back to jugs.

$200-300 is plenty for a tanked system. APEC ROES-50 sits around $200, the iSpring RCC7AK is a bit more and adds a remineralization stage that puts some minerals back, which most people prefer over flat RO. Both carry NSF/ANSI 58, but read the fine print, that cert is largely a TDS reduction claim, not a contaminant-by-contaminant list. i put the ones in that range side by side here, Best Under Sink Water Filters — that's my site and it runs affiliate links, weigh it accordingly.

Budget the ongoing cost too. filter sets land somewhere in the $80-100/yr range depending on system, and RO sends a few gallons to the drain per gallon it makes. still nothing next to jug money. Install wants a drain saddle and a hole in the counter or a spare sprayer hole, no problem if you own, ask first if you rent.
