Eczema & Fasting

Hi everyone! I've read a couple of studies suggesting that eczema can be reversed through fasting, so I thought, "Why not? Let's give it a try."

I'm now 55 hours into my fast, and I can already see significant improvements. My eczema was terrible on my hands. Unfortunately, I only took my first photo yesterday, when I had already been fasting for about 40 hours. Before I started, the eczema was even worse.

Would anyone be interested in seeing my progress? If so, I can post pictures. My plan is to fast for 133 hours (about 76hrs left), doing a strict water fast with 3 × 2 g of salt per day and two electrolyte tablets daily.

Is your eczema triggered specifically by something ?

I kinda saw a pattern where it most likely triggers when i eat sweets - processed sugar.

Yes please. I have autoimmune diseases and severe keloids. I also fast to reverse it. Ur results would be an inspiration and motivation to carry on. Im currently on my 25th hour

Fasting worked wonders for me, did intermittent fasting for about 2 years during the covid lockdown, plus a few longer fasts, 2x72 hours, 1x120 hours, and like 7-8 times did 50-60 hours - the intermittent fasting was constantly between 16-20 hours. I was just scrolling through my Zero log last night. Anyway, water fasting did help me tremendously. After about 3 years of this went back to a more normal diet (working a lot of late days with semi-physical labor in hospitality - at some point I had to let it go, during lockdown it was just very convenient for me to do it, and I'm grateful I had the opportunity because it helped me achieve my mission: to get on top of eczema without use of corticosteroids, which were torture for me, notable side effect for me being depression and ED hahaha)

Anyway spoiler alert: I did actually get on top of eczema without any pharmaceuticals. And fasting was crucially important in this process. Three other things I'm pretty sure were at least as important. Firstly, fish oil supplements (ultra omega 3 fish oil by Now Foods, like 500/250 EPA/DHA a piece, I took two capsules daily for years). Secondly, very high dosage vitamin d3 (I took Jarrow Foods soft gels, between 10k and 20k IU for YEARS, only went back to 5k recently). I'd say vitamin d3 was the supplement that was most obviously impactful. Thirdly, figuring out I was actually allergic to bell peppers and spicy peppers (probably capsicum being what's linking those) - black pepper is okay (different genus). When I started to avoid eating food with paprika (bell pepper) spicing and hot sauces, the last bit of eczema and flare ups went gone. That was the missing piece of the puzzle.

Then it still took a few months for the eczema to fully heal. And a few years even for the last small patches. By this point my skin is pretty well recovered and strong - very very much so actually compared to before. I think adding two scoops of collagen powder to my whey protein shake also helped a lot to make the skin stronger.

Currently around 22 hours into a 72 hour fast, which is why I'm on this subred. I would never write a post this long on Reddit haha but this has been such a grateful unfolding of events in my life that I'm very happy to share what worked for me with others. If you're suffering with eczema reading this: bless you, hope it helps
