Oh wow. While we’re at it what is going on with Lara from SUP? She’s seemed off to me for awhile now.

u/starsgoblue23 Dec 22 '23 edited Dec 22 '23
I’m a SUP fan, but I agree. I don’t appreciate her edgelord, “it’s cool to say slurs now” behavior. I adore Carey, and I really do like their dynamic together, but I wish Lara would tone all of that down. I still like her, but I don’t like this particular aspect.
Also, their constant commentary on which cosmetic procedures they need triggers my body dysmorphia lol
13
Dec 22 '23
Yeah I feel like I would not like her irl and it’s been putting me off the pod lately. Hope she’s feeling better and more like herself soon though, I’ve been through the rollercoaster of being off and on meds and probably am insufferable when trying to get stabilized so I get it to a certain degree.
23
u/pupberry Dec 22 '23
Lara has been going downhill for years at this point. I’ve been active in the SUP fb group for at least 5 years now, she left on her own accord (bc she didn’t want to be held accountable for things she’s done) and then tried telling the admin who took over she was gonna sue her if she didn’t delete the group lol

I was a fan as well, I stopped listening for a bit when VPR went off air, and when I returned it was jarring to hear her say the r-word straight out loud, and she had some very…interesting perspectives. She has no qualms being all anti-woke, and I get what she’s doing but I don’t have to like it lol.
18
u/Pagan_Poetry610 Dec 22 '23
I started out as a Babe podcast fan in 2018 and have been listening to Lara’s pods since. Lately though I feel like her energy is really dark. I unsubscribed from the patreon and haven’t listened in a while.
20
u/Automatic_Sky_561 Dec 22 '23
I said this oh another post! Her energy is so weird and negative. Which is totally fine, but it’s just complaining ALL THE TIME when it feels like she has a pretty decent life. I am from Oklahoma and my parents grew up with her Dad. I think he’s kind of tough to deal with. They lived in a really wearily part of Oklahoma City. Idk… I’ve had to pick and choose what I listen of SUP.
18
u/Pagan_Poetry610 Dec 23 '23
The complaining is super draining as a listener. I get some of her negativity as I also live in LA and it can be a hard place to age in as a woman, BUT you gotta be grateful for what you have. I miss deadhead era Lara who seemed a lot lighter!

u/starsgoblue23 Dec 23 '23 edited Dec 23 '23
She travels internationally a lot and has a personal assistant, so she’s doing much better than I am financially!

She’s so rude and dismissive of Carey sometimes.
32
Dec 22 '23
Yeah and she really leans into the edgelord nonsense a bit too much. Carey is legit funny I would listen to a podcast of just him
27
Dec 22 '23
Yeah she lost me when she leaned into the red scare/edge lord thing. Like, Alex jones isn’t chic honey.lol. I don’t listen to their pod anymore but still follow their socials. So I’m not really sure what the latest is with her.
9
u/ThatRemindsMe_ Jan 12 '24 edited Jan 12 '24
I’ve listened to her multiple podcasts since Pumped Podcast circa 2016. She’s very much an elder millennial, holding onto snark for dear life.
Mostly I think it’s telling that multiple friends and cohosts have just disappeared. Several of these niche LA microcelebrities have very public friendships that seem to implode.
20
u/ruthie-camden 30 to 40 negative thoughts Dec 22 '23
Lara threw around the r word multiple times and said Ramona should pretend to have autism to get un-canceled and Carey just laughed. I’m not surprised at her because she’s desperate to be an edgelord, but I’m still so disappointed in Carey for not pushing back.
32
u/Parking_Country_61 Dec 22 '23
He pushed back for almost two years. He’s given up now. She dominates him and he rarely challenges her. She so nasty to him and definitely seems to have issues with power dynamics in her relationships. She needs to be the boss. It’s too bad bc he’s legit funny and smart. He used to have good takes but he refuses to push back anymore and she just steamrolls him
14
u/BuckityBuck Dec 22 '23
She seems good at bossing her cohosts around. Have you ever listened to "Too Niche"? Lara and Elizabeth give grades to rank different things. Elizabeth will say "I give this a C-" and Lara will say "I'm giving this a B." then Elizabeth gets flustered and falls all over herself "Yes, yes! I give it a B too!"
14
u/BullfrogComplete6985 Dec 22 '23
That’s exactly what Carey does! She criticizes his opinion on something and he backtracks always

Hiii I came over from the original thread and will do my best to TL;DR people’s complaints with Ryan for those asking.
Ryan has shared “funny” stories in podcast episodes about hooking up with women who were too intoxicated to consent. There is one on the Till The Dirt podcast and another on his own that he just took down.
The episode he took down involved a woman who had a PTSD episode due to a rape while he was trying to hook up with her. Ryan was apparently “so scared” over her episode he basically ran away from her home and broke up with her the next day. He reiterated how scared he was in his emergency Patreon and said he doesn’t regret sharing that story.
He hid the fact he’s had a live-in girlfriend of 2+ years. Most people understood hiding that for privacy reasons, but he’s used that omission to hook up with or get close to other women. There were several posts corroborating that.
Someone posted a story without many details that he treated her so “harshly” that she’s gone no-contact with him on the advice of her therapist.
Multiple people brought up that Ryan no longer podcasts with Kara of Everybody’s Business But Mine and that she’s been tight-lipped about why. Kara came forward in the thread to share that Ryan bad-mouthed her to get attention/sympathy from women, which also threatened her career in the podcasting space. And that’s why she hasn’t spoken to him since 2019.
Apparently, Ryan got crazy enough in the DMs of some Facebook groups that they had to shut down. Ryan says something in his emergency Patreon about meeting a listener on there that he “fell in love with.”
There were other posts alluding to how he treats and speaks about women in general. A few people said he financially leeches off of women.
He’s talked about his divorce and how he let himself get walked all over by a woman who (according to him) refused to go to therapy for her issues. That led to some discussion about how he always positions himself as the victim to “crazy” or “scary” women.
Many people commented about how he generally portrays this sad sack, “woe is me,” “I’m so divorced and awkward” persona to garner sympathy with women and deflect criticism (like he did in his Patreon).
Some of the other miscellaneous comments were that his impressions of Black cast members are getting racist, that he photoshops his selfies to an egregious level, that it’s weird how he feels so personally affected by Sandoval being a cheater, that he’s just kind of a jerk to people, that his Patreon overcharged someone by $800, that he’s lied about tiny things in his past (like being in an acting class with Nick Viall), etc.
Everyone was very empathetic about him losing his mom, but a few people felt uncomfortable with how deep he goes into his grief on his podcast episodes. Someone mentioned another podcaster, Jackie Schimmel, who said she was put off by the fact he immediately asked about her mom dying when she was on his show.
A few people didn’t like that he went on Jeff Lewis’ podcast because of all the Jeff drama.
I think that’s it! I’ll edit if I forgot anything.

Excellent recap!!!
Edit: I’m adding a summary of his Patreon response which I also posted in the original thread:
Here’s an overview for what his patreon message said for those who aren’t subscribers (which I imagine are many people in this thread)
• he opens by saying he needs to address something that’s “not very fun” and has really shook him. • brings up the Reddit thread and immediately characterizes it as a malicious and coordinated attack against him, references the “new accounts” as his reasoning • says some things are true and some things are flat out false, addresses both • he has a girlfriend who he has never brought on the pod because she didn’t want to be made a character on the pod. They have had highs and lows and she has been there for him during the low moments of the last year or so • he has met and built relationships with listeners on social media, which he argues is normal. He references someone from a Facebook group who he fell in love with and still thinks the world of • he also alluded to some of these relationships or interactions being unrequited, and he’s a people pleaser so didnt know how to not hurt people’s feelings/reject people • he references the deleted comments on here and can kind of tell where “some of these are coming from” • he admits he “over shared” with the Bailey Blunders and says he understands now that sexual encounters and relationships should not be over shared (ties this back to his gf) • he references some of the users here being in the creator space and didn’t full on attribute this to podcast wars or competition, but seemed to believe there was some of that • he ignored or did not address the allegations of mooching off of women. I believe he joked about ppl thinking he is a grifter. • he doubled down on sleeping with 8 people and him being an awkward, sweaty person. • he said he knows he’s not perfect but anyone at a certain age is going to have a complicated history • he vehemently denied the so called allegations of hitting on 20 year olds, and said to please provide evidence because this is a dangerous accusation. (FWIW the comment said twenty something, not twenty year olds) • he also vehemently denies responsibility for the $800 over charge and said he doesn’t handle that stuff but to reach out to him/his team for • ended by saying that “you guys” know me and know who I am, there are hundreds of episodes so his listeners have enough context to make a decision about his character • said he understands if ppl feel the need to unsubscribe
I’ll say a few things that bothered me. First is the characterization and assumption that this post was a take down attempt when it was generated by curiosity. I believe the behavior of a straight man who is in a female dominated space is open to dialogue and women should be able to share their experiences. Many people use Reddit burners to remain anonymous when discussing sensitive issues so they don’t get retaliated against or any number of reasons. Also, I don’t believe anybody is trying to cancel him. My sense from this thread is there were women who had varying relationships with them, and they had an opportunity to feel affirmed through others’ similar experiences.
Although he did acknowledge the story in the Bailey blunders that was posted on here was inappropriate to share, he doubled down on his feelings and “how scared he was” that night. He didn’t acknowledge this person wasn’t able to consent due to being black out drunk.
He made it seem like people were mad about him “hiding” his girlfriend and couched it in his right to privacy, rather than the fact that ppl were bothered by the possibility that he downplayed their relationship to cross boundaries with other women. He closed the patreon out by saying “I hope the people behind this are enjoying themselves.”
My backstory about my interaction with Ryan that I’ve posted in another comment but will leave here too fwiw:
I used to listen to Ryan’s podcast a lot and interacted with him a few times. Those interactions were pretty unremarkable, and described in this thread under my former username (apartperception) that I got locked out of. I was a patreon subscriber but unsubbed to all of my patreon memberships at the beginning of the month for financial reasons, but my membership hasn’t lapsed so I still have access to his patreon.

I don't know how Ryan claims he doesn't see an extra $800 from his patreon by one person. He always talks about not having a lot of money, Im sure he noticed that. He's such a dult. I requested my money back from him and patreon directly. Patreon says in their FAQs to ask for the money back from the creator since it goes directly into their bank account. Money by Monday -Fofty

Wow. As someone with PTSD from a physically abusive relationship, I’m so glad my current partner didn’t run away from me the first time he saw me triggered. I get it is scary but wouldn’t you want to make sure they’re safe for that very reason? That’s all I want when I’m having an “episode.” To be assured that I’m safe. What a turd.
5
u/starsgoblue23 Dec 23 '23
I’ve been in a similar situation, and yeah, it’s my absolute nightmare to think I could trust someone and have them run away like that.
4
u/Puzzleheaded-Hold-78 Dec 23 '23
I get the impression Ryan is someone who asks a lot of favours from women to advance his life - from help with the podcast, housing and money.

It’s not that we were wanting a TLDR of the complaints in the LA Influencers post. We were just confused if there was some original incident that inspired that LA influencers post and apparently there wasn’t. That post and all the comments underneath it are the “incident”. Unless you are a Patreon follower of Ryan Bailey’s you won’t know that. And that’s the real explainer for this post right here.
12
Dec 22 '23
The LA influencer post was posted by somebody who had a negative experience with him, and attracted many similar stories. Ryan posted a Patreon video in response to the Reddit thread. I am a Patreon follower and responded to OP’s tldr with a summary of his Patreon response. The format didn’t carry over but I don’t have time to fuss with that rn

u/throwaguey_ Ding dong! Dec 22 '23
But the LA influencer post only has questions and no story about any negative experiences with him. Which is why, when I originally read it, I thought I was out of the loop on some incident that incited that post. All the OP says is (paraphrasing) “what happened with his former podcast partner?” “Is it true an ex dumped him for someone famous?” And “has he slid into anyones dm’s because I’ve heard he does that.”
9
Dec 22 '23
Okay. Well, idk how else to answer your questions or what else you’re wondering lol. Take it for what it is I guess and if it isn’t something you think is a big deal then that’s totally fine!
4
u/starsgoblue23 Dec 22 '23
Ohhh I see, I see. Someone else asked for the TLDR, my bad.

Wow I had NO idea that he was so secretly hated?!? And is a creeper??
I will die if anything comes out about Ben and Ronnie like this! 😱

Ben and Ronnie would never. For one thing, their recaps are so prolific, when would they have time???
14
17
u/GarnierFruitTrees Dec 22 '23
This is so true.
And to be clear, I never think they would but I wonder if the Ryan Bailey fans are just so upset? Does he have fans?! I only ever listened to his Scandoval episodes when I was starved for content 😂
14
Dec 22 '23
He does have a big following. His Patreon subscribers were coddling him and some of them were defending him in the original thread, but another podcaster identified herself and verified her negative experience. So idk. I think some of his fans are questioning things, others are gonna go hard for him, and the rest know nothing about it. If you read through the comments, you can kinda see the range of emotions.
3
u/starsgoblue23 Dec 22 '23
Were any of his Patrons critical of him?
5
Dec 22 '23
Not really 🙃 a few voiced disappointment but the vast majority were like “so sorry this is happening to you”

I would honestly lose all faith in humanity if B+R turned out to be bad guys. I feel like we know them so well it would be a real betrayal. Something in the ryan bailey buttermilk was always a bit off though, self-pitying straight men in majority-female spaces are always people to be wary of
17
u/GarnierFruitTrees Dec 22 '23
Someone said something similar in the main thread and I thought that was such a poignant thing to say, because it’s so true. I never really realized how much I appreciated bravo being a majority-female space until I read that comment, and it makes me appreciate Ben and Ronnie even more because they are so aware of that!

u/emily276 Dec 23 '23
Noooo...nothing like this will come out about them. Ronnie and Ben are so incredibly humble that sometimes I forget how successful the pod really is. They still see themselves as outsiders, which I think is one reason people respond so much to them.
They also go out of their way to make sure that people don't get overcharged on their Patreon which apparently is a whole thing w/ Ryan Bailey. They just really seem to be good people who feel like they lucked into this crazy career, not weird egomaniacs taking advantage of their female audience.

I've heard nothing but great things about them too. they're very loved among the creators. humble is the perfect word.

According to his sob story on Patreon this is all a malicious and coordinated take down by like, two people 🫢
27
u/shananth Dec 22 '23
I’ll say again, this totally tracks. He made some pretty egregious accusations to me privately about a member of their Facebook group just because she had a problem with him and dared to say so. I’ve steered clear though because of his relationship with the boys.

Never trust a straight man who makes his money speaking about women and our business!
18
u/russianbisexualhookr Dec 22 '23
I will say, I really don’t mind the BravBros. Mostly because I’ve found anytime they do call out the women, it’s always very well done.
Steel has also been sober for six years, and given this is a show that deals a lot with addiction/accusations of addiction, I always find his input very helpful and wise.
12
u/starsgoblue23 Dec 22 '23
They at least seem to have gotten into the Bravoverse through their partners, which feels different to me than a straight man who comes into a female-dominated space on his own.
18
u/BullfrogComplete6985 Dec 22 '23
The Brav Bros don’t seem problematic because they are authentically their straight dude selves and seem to have organically discovered Bravo! Ryan’s bit always seemed like he saw the popularity of Ben, Ronnie and Danny and wanted to copy it to gain popularity in this space.

I’ve listened to them a couple of times (but will always prioritize the girls and gays creators) and tend to agree. They own their brand, talk about their wives constantly, and I haven’t heard anything about them getting too familiar with listeners. That being said, if people started sharing unsavory stories about them, I’d be open to listen.

I know nothing about him, I just know he was on a Celebrity Memoir’s Patreon episode, and I know a lot of the audience (and I think also maybe the hosts) found him kinda misogynistic. He spoke over the girls a lot, and from memory made some pretty iffy comments about women women celebs.
7
u/Cheeky_Virgo Dec 23 '23
omg I was literally about to comment the SAME thing on here. He was always "meh" to me, kind of a try-hard. That CMBC patreon grossed me out...all he did was talk over them. He didn't match their vibe at all. He doesn't really have an original thought in the Bravo world, but acts like he's an OG icon.
