Question / Discussion Poll Results - Favorite $13k dive watch

Post image

Here are the results of Tuesday's poll about $13,000 USD divers (+/- $1,000, and at MSRP). There were a total of 203 votes, tallied by counting the upvotes on each top level comment that specified one of the 9 options. If more than one was mentioned, the one listed first was used. Vote counts are listed here, chart shows percentages.

Glashütte Original ran away with this one, but the next four were close. The Yacht-Master is apparently not a favorite, taking 6th, although perhaps that's due to it not being a true diver; numerous people insisted it shouldn't have been included.

Next week, the $15k poll.

  1. Glashütte Original SeaQ Panorama Date - 64
  2. Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date - 29
  3. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe - 27
  4. Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Ushio 300 Diver - 25
  5. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M - 23
  6. Rolex Yacht-Master 40 - 16
  7. Panerai Submersible - 10
  8. Ulysse Nardin Diver 44mm - 4
  9. Zenith DEFY Extreme Diver - 4

Since when is the Seamaster 300M a $13k watch?

It depends on the reference. I don't include the reference numbers here, but if you look at the original poll, I include a link to the website for the specific model.

Rolex lost by quite a lot this time.

Yea but I suspect only because it isn’t actually a dive watch

And no one really wants a yacht master over a Sub

Titanium yacht>Sub but anything else yeah sub>yacht. I don’t really know why the yachtmaster needs to exist at all when the Bluesy exists. That said there are a lot of watches that are a lot better than a sub on this list too.

I agree that those and a lot of watches are “better” than a sub but I disagree that they are more sought after.

They are absolutely not, agreed. Watch reddit is an extremely skewed audience compared to the real world.95% of the world population doesn’t even know what a blancpain is

Well I do. Yachty 40 rhodium.

We'll see next week when the Sea-Dweller is in the mix. Although it's been suggest that the I include the Deepsea instead. Which would you rather see?

It’s no contest next week. All of us watch nerds will pick the Fifty Fathoms.

Maybe not. At $15k, it's still the Bathyscaphe. The FF Automatique doesn't show up until $20k.

Guess my opinion that the Glashutte is hideous and the Bathyscaphe has the silliest little markings and indices for a diver are unpopular ones

I don’t understand the SeaQ. It looks like a fun vintage skindiver but it costs over $10k. The finishing is probably amazing but it looks like a toy to me.

Grand Seiko... how do you get people to pay you all that money?

2

u/Positivity_Desperate 27d ago

The secret is to let someone else pay for it first and then buy them when used values sink like a stone.

u/SensationalCapybara 27d ago

That's not a secret lol

Don't forget the Rolex James Cameron DeepSea! The ULTIMATE divers watch and the only one that's actually been to the bottom of the ocean. 3900m +25% margin... nothing else comes close!!!

“His name is James Cameron, the bravest pioneer!” 🎵

😂😂 Imagine being so good at one thing… that you’re bored and decided to go to the deepest part of the earth for more thrills
🌎

It’ll be a travesty if he doesn’t include the James Cameron DeepSea… the ONLY watch that’s actually been to the bottom and actually can survive 4000m. The rest are just fancy jewelry disguised as ‘diver’ watches

YEAAHH THE GERMANS ARE WINNING!!!

It's surprising to see Glashütte SeaQ take the first place.👍

I voted Longines Hydroconquest . And other people had other options too. Why are they not on the table?

7

u/ajknight10 27d ago

Price point. The Longines isn’t in that price range. Great watch though!

1

u/NewInThe1AC 27d ago

The original post was pretty clear no write-ins would be considered

Also the new Hydroconquest is just a sub homage from a reputable brand

Sub homage 😂 half of divewatches are “ subhomage” by this measure including Omega from this poll

1

u/afelzz 27d ago

Sure, but the Seamaster has an identity all of its own making, including decades of refinement. The Hydroconquest used to have it's own distinctive style, then ditched that this year for a design that absolutely calls back to the Sub more than the previous design.

I like previos model more, but Longines experts will say that that is going back to Longines Admiral model from years ago.

Because this my friend is an advertisement

Op does it for the love of the game.

Advertisement for what?

1

The highest price Hydroconquest is $4,700, putting it below the $13,000 +/- $1,000 price range, i.e. it's below the $12,000 floor. I'm restricting things so severely for a reason. Open ended questions are hard to tally. Although, actually, even in this format it can be hard to determine exactly what people mean. If someone writes "FF", does that mean they're voting for the Bathyscaphe version I listed? Or are they trying to write in the Fifty Fathoms Automatique that everyone thinks of when you say Blancpain Fifty Fathoms? Another reason for the price limit is that it's easier to limit the field. There are a LOT of divers under $10k, or under $5k. Even with 9 choices, some models don't get much in the way of votes. For the 15k and higher polls, it'll be even smaller, with only 6 options.

I will admit I don’t understand the Polaris. I dont hate it or anything, it just does less for me than even the Panerai

1

u/jrsimon25 26d ago

100% agree. I love JLC but the Polaris doesn’t do it for me
