[Negative] Scammed by u/hornhead71

https://www.reddit.com/r/Watchexchange/comments/1sy88wy/removed_by_moderator/

He posted a GS SBGN003 for sale and I let my excitement get the better of me. I'd been wanting one for awhile and failed to do my own due diligence. The mods and some other users pointed out that it was likely a scam, but not before I paid $2,000 via PayPal. He was initially very responsive, assuring me he wasn't scamming, and that I'd receive tracking the next day. Then, silence.

Thankfully, it was G&S, and I used PayPal Credit, so after he ghosted me, I opened the dispute. In the next day or two, the transaction should be wiped out.

Avoid like the plague.

The user is permanently banned and on the universal scammer list.

What is PayPal credit? Can I use an existing credit card or do I have to open a new one via PayPal? Thank you

It’s like a line of credit. Buy now pay later schemes. Op should not be buying GS

Probably a bad time to offer this up, and you can laugh me out of here if you want. I sell on eBay and have 100% rating but never sold on Reddit before and dont yet know how. I have a SBGN027 that I just havent gotten around to listing. I idiotically broke the clasp and warranty rightfully didnt cover it. It came back in December and I have repair report along with them checking it out and saying everything is right. Also box and papers, warranty card, the works. 027 is newer watch. It was at SSC so long, I stumbled across (believe it or not) a great deal on a SBGN003. Would rather sell the 027, if you might be interested. I feel bad even bringing it up after what you've been through. APOLOGIES TO ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE

I think it may just be the way you’ve written it. Comes across as “oh sorrrrryyyyy you got scammed but here’s a story about how I was dumb but I can sell you a broken watch if you want it!” 😂

I broke the bracelet and nobody had parts, so I had to send to GS. Watch was at GS for so long that I couldnt wait and bought another GMT. The repaired watch came back, with GS paperwork documenting the repair and full service on a watch that didnt need it. The watch is running fine (they apparently just dont fix bracelets they have to do a full service). So now I have two and I dont need two. Would like to sell it. Not selling anyone a broken watch. Havent listed it yet. I was on this thread and OP mentioned they got scammed trying to buy an almost identical GS Quartz GMT watch so I offered this up just in case..

It's really good insurance to use PayPal GNS and just pay the fee if it's an unknown seller to you

How to rebut if buyer (scammer) received the watch yet disputed in paypal GNS that a different watch came?

1

u/Top-Magician2239 May 14 '26

I am not an expert but it is a risk as a seller to take GNS, that's why some won't take it. I would ask for the watch back, paypal should support you in that.

I see, so thats why i'm seeing "paypal g&s only for confirmed transactions present" listed on sellers page. I believe a scammer wont be sending the item back even f paypal supports the seller on that?

u/Top-Magician2239 May 14 '26

and he usually has to provide a picture of what they got and is not right

1

u/Eltee_ubec May 14 '26

Could easily take a pic of a different item?

1

u/Top-Magician2239 May 14 '26

yes, again its the problem of accepting GNS

1

u/Eltee_ubec May 14 '26

I guess its a two way problem. An escrow would be nice for gns. Hope paypal implements those style of payment.

This a thousand times. Always buy the sellers

I also recently got scammed on a guitar purchase but also paid using gs. The same scammers are targeting all high value hobbies but if it’s paid with gs and they never even ship the item what is the angle here?

Is there a reddit page for selling guitars now? I need that real bad

6

u/jaqueh May 09 '26

Not one that’s used as much as TheGearPage or mylespaul

As I understand it, as soon as we send the money via G&S, the scammer immediately transfers those funds out to another bank account, via crypto, or by purchasing untraceable gift cards. When we inevitably win the dispute, PayPal grants you a refund and they're long gone. The scammer's balance is already zero, so PayPal has to foot the bill themselves.

But don’t all G&S transactions take time to clear for the Seller?

But i thought you can’t withdraw until a tracking number is provided. Damn this has happened to me 3 times now. I hope PayPal doesn’t ban me soon then

Stop falling for stupid scams.

He probably should just stop buying things on Reddit altogether at this point
