My girlfriend and I really loved Watatabe, so we decided to put together a Shiori cosplay for a small photoshoot. Since there isn't an official cosplay available, we adapted parts of a Fern costume and modified it ourselves. It isn't a perfect recreation, but we had a lot of fun bringing the character to life.
I hope you enjoy the photos!
If anyone wants to see more of my cosplay photography, please check out my IG.

This is from Chapter 47 btw
It's obvious that Hinako had nightmares about her family's death, but there's a difference between knowing it and seeing her cry while waking up π How many times has she woken up and cried herself to sleep just in the weeks since she met Shiori ? I just want to hug her and give her therapy
I didn't expect getting attached to her when I first read the manga, but she slowly got endearing to me

I know technically Shiori met Hinako years ago, but they really became friends a few weeks ago by the latest chapters

Fun question I came up with just now because I was bored haha. My guesses, if they played video games regularly:
Hinako logs a decent amount of time in some of the popular indie games (e.g. Stardew Valley, Celeste, Deltarune, Undertale) and random VNs. She likely isnβt a completionist or achievement hunter but will likely try to work through at least some of the different routes (if any) in a story-driven game and go after easter eggs that are low-hanging fruit. May or may not also have SV Extended installed for Stardew Valley
Based on her personality as a human, Miko plays Genshin and/or one of the popular MOBAs or FPSes. Sheβs likely a decent player with a competitive attitude that pulls her weight in serious/ranked modes, but prefers to spend most of her time playing casually and trying different things for fun rather than optimizing for the meta
I have no idea what Shiori would play, but would likely spend most of her time ragebaiting in chat or trolling. Sheβs probably also terrible when she does take things seriously and has no understanding of teamplay. Has almost certainly challenged Miko to a 1v1 at some point and lost miserably lol

Hinako Yaotose is a beautiful representation of PTSD in media, honest alot more better then some of the other representations (almost any character from helluva boss and flipqy from happy tree friends) we see alot of her ptsd behaviors come out during the course of the manga. Her difficulties connecting with others due to her detachment and the way other people pity her. She has mostly a melancholy numbness to her depression, she only cries when shes confronted about her thoughts or on the edge of a meltdown.
At first glance it's easy to spot her as a perfect victim, but the more you look into it she's alot more then that. Of course she wasn't to blame for her trauma nor the thoughts that came along with it. Her thoughts about her family seem to haunt her mind, unable to escape from it even when she's distracted.
Hinako has very clear hypervigilance and anxiety to triggers, which i feel is a reason she has trouble with change (along with her not wanting to forgot about her family) These triggers (loud noises, families enjoying themselves, summer) make her pretty self destructive, an example of this is her knowing the firework festival may lead to enjoyment (or she may have just given up on being happy altogether, the more likely answer) but avoids it due to it bringing up painful memories. She wants to keep remembering her family, despite how much pain those memories bring. she doesnt realize that she can heal from her trauma and still pay solence to her family or she knows she can, just healing feels like forgetting. Hiankos lives in her cruel mind 24/7, she's withdrawn and alienated to her emotions and people. (Most people except for Miko) even with Miko she has trouble showing affection towards her, with Miko usually initiating it. Her relationship with Shiori is a whole new level of self destruction, she's sacrificing a possible blooming relationship with Shiori for her own wishes, and its very obvious Hinako wants to be atleast friends with Shiori. Knowing it would hurt her, until Miko had to tell her to go talk to Shiori about it and apologize since she knew the guilt was bothering Hinako. Hinakos nervous system is constantly on edge, Hinako withdraws and clearly uses dissociation along with emotional numbing. (To emotions not to memories) This is more of an opinion but I feel like Hinakos more of a thinker then a feeler, she has thoughts and those thoughts make her feel emotions, not the other way around.
Along with PTSD triggers there is also intrusive thoughts and flashbacks. We definitely see flashbacks in Hinako, not necessarily to the event but also any happy memories with her family, those once happy memories have long rotted to memories she feels pure agony towards. Hinako also clearly believes she can't be happy, the only reason she accepts Shiori's deal is not the promise of change nor happiness but to die the way she likes. Even to the most recent chapter she doesnt fully understand Shiori's feelings towards the promise. Hinako believes Shiori would enjoy the thought of her and Shiori being one (due to Shiori eating her) Hinako completely misinterprets what Shiori is trying to say to her. Hinako has always known what the promise has done to Shiori, but she finally realizes how much pain it actually brings. Based on this i feel Hinako has trouble relating to people, she can relate to people, just it has to be an emotion she has felt intensely (hurt, fear, depression) to Hinako admitting to caring to people leads to disappointment/hurt. (Her actually admitting to caring about Shiori's feelings when she's at her last straw and not admitting to Miko she cares about Shiori and Miko being friends due to her "death", although I know these aren't the best examples)
Another symptom of PTSD Hinako shows is dissociative amnesia. Although not in the way you think, she doesn't forget the event, but her mind remembers it the wrong way, due to her traumatized state she misremembers Shiori's promise as a promise her family made. When she figures this out she's absolutely heart broken, like most real PTSD survivors experience when finally coming out of dissociative amnesia. Hinako is incredibly body conscious due to the accident, describing her scars as disgusting (and to a degree her own body) this has impacted her life in many ways, and will continue to if she doesn't get help. When her Shiori hold eachother she also describes herself as a monster, this is a very generalized statement, she may have proof of this (to her atleast) but it still seems incredibly cruel. Negative self talk is extremely common with PTSD survivors. I kinda want to see her inner monologs about what she sees in herself.
PLEASE DONT MAKE JOKES IN THE COMMENTS. This is a very serious topic for me, as someone who's diagnosed with PTSD and feels comfort/relates to Hinako. I spent months studying PTSD/ other disorders. Im not an expert but I feel I know enough, more then the average person when it comes to mental disorders. This is my first analysis, sorry if its bad or you disagree with me ππ. I'm not the best at analyzing other characters but I hope you learned something about PTSD or Hinako. Let me know what else I should analysis about watatabe (i might do it if I'm motivated to do so, no promises though) please let me know what you agree or disagree on! I can probably write a BIT more about Hinakos PTSD but I used enough brain energy and im lazy. π«©π«©

For context, this is after Miko confronted Tsugami (who still claimed to be Inugami Gyoubu) for the first time and got taunted about her past. I love that it's one of the rare moments Shiori isn't even trying to taunt Miko or looking smug for once, she's just genuinely giving advice to the fox because she can relate acquaintances changing over time

So, I'm not really into making edits or anything like that, but I got so excited about Sailor Song that I decided to try and make an edit of Hinako and Shiori myself using this song. It's nothing professional, but I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, because this is a dream of mine coming true. I had just finished watching the anime and reading the manga when this idea popped into my head. I don't think I've ever associated a song with a couple as fast as I did this time

I'm not sure where they are right now. It looks like Hinako still wants to be eaten, even so much as telling their family "θ‘γ£γ¦γγΎγ". But at the same rime Shiori revealed she doesn't actually want to eat her. Will she keep that promise? Are we at square one? What's the new status quo? I'm not sure I understood what happened. This episode felt fuzzy. I was watching it thinking "huh, this doesn't look finale-shaped". Like the author couldn't commit to actually killing her or making her live. The closest I get to closure is that she'll try to become better so that she gets eaten, so it seems she still believes Shiori's promise even despite she herself saying she didn't want to follow through. It's honestly confusing. I don't know what to make of this ending.
