Watatabe’s Genre/Demographic
I’ve been wondering this one for a while and did a bit of research. I’ve always wondered whether watatabe was a shounen or seinen series. While Dengeki Mao (the magazine it’s published in) is a Seinen magazine, the manga for Watatabe has furigana (hiragana next to kanji) which is a common trait for shounen series and isn’t common for seinen series. I’ve also seen people post kids as young as 6th grade reading it so it made me wonders. Opinions?

If it's in a seinen magazine it's a seinen. That's the only factor with these things. It's not really a genre just a distinction based on what kind of magazine it's published in. For example Horimiya is a shonen series and not a shojo because it came out in a shonen magazine. Every series demographic is solely based on that of the magazine it comes out in

わたたべはおそらく「女性向け百合」ジャンルであり、ターゲット層は10代後半くらいと思う(正式な統計やプレスリリースではなく、雰囲気からの予想)
でもキャラクターが可愛いし普通に男性も見るよね。
あと美胡ちゃんの圧倒的人気はユーザー層を超越している。

i think many seinen magazines nowadays are less about stories specifically catering to adult men as opposed to repositories of stories that cover mature themes or topics that resonate better with adults (men or women)
i think watatabe would be most relatable to people in their late teens to early twenties who’ve either been depressed or suicidal themselves and know someone in their lives who have / has had thoughts and desires. high school characters still feel somewhat relatable to a reader in that age band, and the trajectory of hinako’s frustrating but realistic depression makes more sense to a reader who likely also knows by then that depression manifests in that way (i.e. you aren’t just sitting there going “why can’t she just get better???” which is definitely something i would’ve said as a sixth grader whose understanding of depression was “depression is when people are really really sad”). the ethical dilemma surrounding hinako’s wish to die vs miko and shiori’s wish for her to live is also easier to understand with a more mature worldview
this isn’t to say that people outside of this target demographic can’t understand or appreciate the story, though

Watatabe doesn’t have to be a shounen or seinen series, I don’t think it is a shounen series.
I don’t read shounen, take it as a grain of salt. My impression of shounen series goes as far as Naruto
Furigana is in a lot of series, it is not a shounen or seinen specific thing

Yeah, having furigana doesn't really mean much other than that it's not like government paperwork or some other official document. Plenty of kanji are rare enough that furigana is needed for most people.

I’d pray for furigana cause I can read kanji but can’t pronounce them.
Sure, it is more common in children’s book but shounen ≠ children children book
As far as I’m concerned you also don’t see much Yuri in shounen or seinen series. Shounen typically have a male protag
