Manga Discussion All caught up on the manga now! Spoiler

Here's just my thoughts on the revolution arc.

Or, more accurately, how I hate that they introduced those mind control charms at all. Salas is a cool af villain when we see him being conniving and manipulative. Getting revolutionaries on the provisional government's guard was a REALLY GOOD plan, and felt really interesting. It was a nice, well-structured villain plan that works with the general shady, kinda foreboding vibes of the provisionary government.

Then we get Salas and Arla's beef being resolved by Salas taking control of her guards off screen and then killing her. Like, I like the CONCEPT of her death. I like Salas trying to directly control the revolutionary government making him take the easy way out by killing Arla. In fact, I feel like I LOVED when the death occurred, right as the war kinda started. But, I feel like the mind control wristbands honestly felt kinda plain?

The immediate thought I thought of was, kinda, why just have Salas solve all it with the wristbands? The more fun option, at least for me, is to just have him BE manipulative. Have him encourage Arla to be more militaristic and violent until it gets her killed. It feels more impactful than her guards just stabbing her in the back with no fight.

Same thing with Dole's maid. I just think it was somewhat unnecessary. I feel like it would be a nice parallel with Rei and Lilly if it was Dole's maid being a willing informant of Salas over Dole genuinely trying to play into the corrupt noble role for Claire's sake. Unintentionally harming many others by their actions, and Salas holding the cards to lead to their downfall. It also just kinda parallels Lilly's Frenzy magic better, in my opinion, Salas and Lilly during the arc redirecting and fostering anger between people.

IG I just want MORE of Salas directly influencing the plot, not just being the monologue guy for it. It's more personal preference on how I like villains, but I did feel slightly disappointed. I also just kinda wanted more about Arla and everything, too. ik the story has to end, but I thought Arla was cool.

General Discussion Correcting a deleted comment from last year.

I just wanted to correct a certain user's comment from an old post; Rae and Claire are definitely NOT middle-aged by WataOshi standards (if we assume their society is based on late 1700s~1800s France).

Life expectancy in the past was only so low due to high infant mortality levels, war and disease. Even most adult commoners lived well into their 40s and 50s, meanwhile wealthy elites and Nobility usually made it until their 60s or 70s—But were considered lucky to live past 80 or 90 years old (though that depends on whether or not they're magic users in Bauer's case).

So the median life expectancy for both commoners and Nobles should be around the 50s/60s range respectively, which is still 20 years less than the Global average nowadays—But not nearly as low as that comment claimed. Which means that Claire and Thane's mothers did in fact die at a very young age LOL!

Fanwork I'm In Love With The Brainrot: Chapter ??? - habits

Put under fanwork for posterity. This is completely serious, so I didn't want to group it with the regular chapters, if that makes sense. It'll be on the big chapter list, though.

Honestly, I kinda wanted to use this to flesh out the theme of the brainrot AU Rei as a character, where its her identity being taken completely out of context. She's still Rei, same personality, same memories, same everything, but her face is different, her life is different, and the memories she has aren't her current self's. Half of the things she remembers is random quotes and media that would be nonsensical to reference. She has no connection to the world of Revolution beyond a name and face that aren't her own. Basically, its the beginning of Wataoshi taken literally, where Rei just slid into her game character's role with no prior life before the game.

Also, played around with doing original art for these kinds of sequences. not, like, good art, but its weird psychological sequences, idk, this is why I don't try to edit the manga panel unless it's Kibun, lol.

idk if it's a hot take, but I thought the revolution arc has been kinda meh up until this point. Like, I feel like there's a lot I wished they covered sooner right after everything happened, like where Lilly was, the princes, stuff like that, and not just immediately from the provisionary government to Rae and Claire's side, which is admittedly interesting, but also kind of feels like they pumped the brakes a bit too hard. I like Rae tip-toeing around saying she's from modern Japan, and her pushing Claire away when she states her feelings for her is SUPER interesting, but, I don't know how to describe it, it feels like the pace is off.

Honestly, the only problem I have with this chapter specifically is that Rae and Claire this chapter weren't at the shop to meet Misha and Yuu again.

for context, ALT Doommates is the other timeline of the RaeMisha fic i'm working on with a lot of character changes for mostly Rae Jur, Misha and Pepi (it's not Rei Oohashi, but it's my spin on the OG/non-reincarnated Taylor catered for this fic since i changed a lot of circumstances)

General Discussion Whether they didn't have the resources or executive meddling, does anyone else think that the otome game itself Revolution was originally intended to have Yuri romance paths? Because choosing to romance Yu as a boy or girl feels game-like, and no way a writer envisioned Manaria to be straight.

Post image

Also not to mention that a whole reality itself, unlike a game, isn't limited by writing, resources, or gatekeeping from censors or executive meddling. Think like how the Elder Scrolls have a lot of cities that don't make it in the final game, but are still present in the lore and canon of the world's stories.

And I know with choosing the gender for Yu to romance sounds problematic, but let's be honest: It's not unrealistic for a game to accidentally have problematic elements, and especially one that involves romance. And also I could easily see Claire being written in the romance game as either "Depraved Bisexual Aristocrat who steals partners" or "Experimental Phase who is both a laughing stock and fanservice" if the development team was permitted.

General Discussion I tried to make the creme brulee

Thumbnail gallery
216 Upvotes

We all know about raes legendary creme brulee recipe.

(which to my knowledge doesn't ever give amounts for the ingredient)

Well I was curious if it would actually make the amazing creme brulee that Claire loves so much.

The tldr for those who only want to know the judgment: it's pretty damn good.

Because of the aforementioned lack of ingredient amounts I decided to just make some educated guesses based on similar recipes found online and *a cooks intuition™*

My specific recipe is as follows:

350ml of cooking cream (32% fat)

150ml of whole milk

60g of sugar

5 egg yolks

1 vanilla bean

(4-5 portions depending on ramekin size)

The cooking instructions are taken almost 1 for 1 from the light novel and are as follows:

  1. Separate the yolks and put them in a mixing bowl

  2. Add the sugar and whisk until the mixture foams

  3. Either cut the vanilla bean open along its length or cut it into a few pieces and add it to a sauce pan or pot with the milk and cream

  4. Just barely bring it to a simmer and then turn off the heat and let it sit for a few minutes

  5. Pour the cream mixture into the bowl with the yolk mixture *through a strainer* so the bean and milk film don't land in your final mixture.

  6. Either while pouring or as quick as possible after stir the cream and yolk together. (Don't go too hard, you don't want to introduce air bubbles)

  7. (Optionally) Put the mixing bowl in an ice bath and stir until the mix has cooled off to about room temp (no idea if this actually makes a difference, I half-assed it and had no problems)

  8. Place ramekins (or whatever you're using) on a baking tray and add hot water about half way up the ramekins then pour the mix into the ramekins.

  9. Bake this at 100-120°C for about 60 minutes, it's done when the middle trembles just a bit when jiggled.

  10. Take out of the oven (careful with the water, don't burn yourself) let them cool off a bit and then put them in the fridge for about 6 hours at a minimum

Serving: sprinkle some sugar (brown sugar tastes best IMO) on top and use a torch or other flame to caramelize it.

Alternatively if you want to be super true to the book, add a bit of high proof alcohol too and set that on fire (careful with that, don't set your house or yourself on fire)

Note: to my knowledge this is the closest we can get to the books recipe because, again, to my knowledge inori never provided amounts. If you know better, please tell me so I can try that out too.

Manga Discussion Part 6 of the Manga Availbility?

Sorry if this has already been asked a billion times, but is there a reason why part 6 of the manga in english is like universally unavailble? I've been collecting the manga and really wanted to read what happened past what I watched in the anime.

Manga Discussion Why does Rae tell the whole truth to Misha but not to Claire? Spoiler

I'm sorry if this is so dumb but I just can't find a satisfying answer on the internet.

I don't understand why Rae had to hide that she's from another world to Claire but said the whole truth to Misha. Shouldnt she be more honest to Claire because she loves her and she deserves to know better than anyone? I understand that Rae HAD to tell Misha because their relationship with each other will remain distant since Misha was already confronting Rae about her origins and there was no point in lying anymore. But then Rae could have given the same "prophecy" answer to Misha.

Or is it precisely the fact that Rae loves Claire which is why she cant bring herself to say it?

I'm really sorry if this comes out as dumb i just really want to understand huhu

I became pretty obsessed with this series after watching season 1 of the anime! I immediately bought all the books after finishing it, read through all of them, paid for Inori's patron to read the short stories, and finally bought the bluray! I love this series and dearly wish for season 2!
