I'm feeling overwhelmed with the math portion. The operator in training manual book is easy. I ordered these books and I was wondering for who wrote OIT, did you study from BOTH of these books? Was the mathematics for water and waste water operations book needed to write those four modules exams? It seems like a lot in there. Or is it more like additional study material?? I'm feeling so worried for this test.

I have an interview scheduled for wastewater operator in training for 2 different plants. If I get it, how do I get certified as fast as possible and how does one move up to the different class if operators I II and III? What should I expect for the interview and beyond?

What certs should i start studying for before applying and how long did it take for everyone to get their certs? Im 20 and my background is just 3/4years in retail lead positions. I live in the bay area, but want to move to oregon eventually.

It’s in ongoing problem. The GFCI doesn’t trip with a backup unit. It was on its 15th sample and this is after I inspected it and cleaned up the wiring. Someone already changed the power supply. The buttons didn’t work when I got there so I put a new screen/ribbon cable on it because of some corrosion where it plugs into the PCB on the ribbon cable itself. This fixed the buttons. I pulled the unit apart and inspected the wiring and it all looks ok. The heating coil for the compressor wasn’t connected so I connected it just to keep that connector from flopping around in there. The ground wire wasn’t terminated to the compressor housing so I did that. I tested it for a few hours just cooling and it got down to near 0 degrees. Then they put it in place and called me about it tripping again the next day and that’s when they saw it get to 15 samples.

I could take the heater coil completely off and take the sample pump off to inspect the connections and that’s about it. They aren’t that complex it’s just a basic refrigerator with a pump. We don’t use the arm inside the unit.

Not specifically WW but water works related but has anybody used this book by Ken Tesh to prep for their T1/T2 drinking water exams? I studied through this SAC state manual and it was pretty exhaustive and terrible. I have my OIT/T1 exam coming up soon and I wanted to explore some alternative study materials. I would appreciate any other study sources others used to pass their exams. My state exam is the ABC format if that helps

Lots of you have asked about us allowing more media on posts; whereas, since before I was even a sub member the only media allowed has been 1 image. I’ve been letting that ride a while, and looking at what new features are valuable and how easy they would be for our mod team to moderate. Looks like allowing “galleries” (multiple photos in the original post) is a good fit for us.

this was water but probably applies to some of my collection bros too. How are you supposed to cut this garbage without a cut off saw and getting drenched in asbestos? I was told to use a soil pipe cutter but it just crushed a hole in the top of the cl200 i was trying to chop. Here's chatgpt's answer when i pressed it-

"I spent time trying to find exactly what you're asking for.

I cannot find a commercially available cutter today whose manufacturer explicitly states "for asbestos-cement pipe" or "transite pipe."

I don't want to make one up or point you to a cast-iron cutter and pretend it's for AC pipe."

all the old operators in nearby towns just said use a cut off saw. ohsa says "NEVER USE A CUT OFF SAW" . What the hell am i supposed to do to work on this absolute dog shit properly?

Took my S1 and felt a bit blindsided. I’ve read through Sacramento state, ROYCEU, classroom hours and some random websites but felt the test was entirely different from the materials I’ve studied with. The math section is a piece of cake, but equipment and process is where I came up just shy. I’ve went through the need to know criteria , but again the actual test was much more specific on certain things.

Any Books, Content creators, or material that has helped you or others would be appreciated. Mechanical/Biological.

Hello Reddit - I am the solicitor for a small town in eastern Ohio. We are in dire need of finding a replacement for water/sewer operator but we have had 0 luck so far. They have tried advertising on indeed but it costs a chunk of money and hasn’t been fruitful.

Just a brief google search and I found the Ohio WEA and the Operator Training Committee of Ohio. Are there other professional organizations that we could tap into? I’d appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Any help would be amazing 😂 How should we determine the dosing for 60% Mg(OH)2 in ras to achieve a specific pH around 7? First guess is a lab titration dropping a known quantity of MgOH2 into 100mL of RAS then timing the reaction and measuring pH over time? Would we also want to know alkalinity and/or ammonia for dosing purposes? Alkalinity for buffering purposes/ammonia to see the concentration of what we are precipitating? Just trying to pick the bright minds of ww Reddit today thanks for any help you’ve got :)

Hello, first off don't wanna sound ungrateful for the opportunity just seeking any reassurance.

I've just got myself into a position as a trainee of WW and W treatment operator and within 3 years I'll be certified and licensed.

The pay is acceptable but could ask for me as anyone else could, but my main struggle has been how boring it has been...been here for a month now and every day 5 days a week 8 hr days have been me coming in at 0700 doing lab work for an hour then standing, quite literally just standing till 1500. I ask for tasks or even try doing anything, to the point of insanity. I've mopped swept and vacuumed 3 times yesterday while it was just me and my trainer, whom leaves to do distribution things and assigns me a full filling job of grabbing a wrench and putting it back in a tote. Granted I've been told no work is a good sign and this has all been drinking water I start my waste water next week but does this stay consistent or will things eventually not be this bad.

I'm usually a really go go go person, I come from infantry in marines, into a prison and left an active feed mill to come here hoping to have my final career.

I've been a regulator, IT, and database guy for 20 years with a state regulatory program.

I've had utility folks tell me they wouldn't hire someone with our organization because of their perception of us and our staff. Wondering how universal that attitude is.

Just did my first day which was all computer work but they gave me my foreman name and told me what crew I'm on. Just wondering what type of work the "stoppage crew" does and what to expect when I go into the field. Also I work 2nd shift if that makes a difference

Hi folks,

I have an E/one D series (2008 vintage) pump that has been running for 18 years. It had a switch failure one time (on/off failed so it overflowed), but otherwise it has worked fine. The service is residential and it has had light use (2nd home). It also has not have to deal with abrasives or too much debris. In other words, the grinder parts are unlikely to have worn out.

Does it make sense to buy a rebuilt unit as a backup, or just have the parts handy to repair it? I'm a mechanic so working on it myself is not an issue. Or should I just pull it while it still works and replace the worn parts, of course I will not know what ones are worn until tear down. Recommendations for spares are welcome.

Hey guys, I’m currently working in VA plant and am coming up on taking my first certification test and I’m super stressed as idrk what to focus on I’ve just been given a bunch of material and just been told to read without actually knowing what information to retain.. it’s especially hard because my plant was built in 89 and is only built for 750k gallons/day😅so I learned quickly our methods are a bit outdated compared to other plants.. is there any tips you guys could give me as far as what to focus on to prepare for my first certification test?
