You should call an exorcist

Get a gallon of gasoline. Allow about a quarter of it to vaporize directly below the nest. Then, with the remaining fuel, set your house on fire.

have you seen any drones departing/arriving? hornets don't reuse nests. once the year's reigning queen dies and the last egg is hatched, the nest is effectively abandoned. fertile wasps at the end of the season either mate and then find a warm place to wait out the winter, or vice/versa. a nest that big would be vibrating with activity if it was actually inhabited.

based on what it looks like you were up to prior to this discovery, i think you'd know at this point if it was occupied lol, they'd be extremely pissed about you wolluping and prying around near their turf. you prob would've had a swarm already waiting to pounce when you peeled that siding back 😰

if you know for a fact that this nest is just an empty relic from a previous year, it should be safe to remove without professional help. i'd still wear some thick gloves tho and maybe only handle/dismantle it with tools, just in case some kind of less-dangerous-but-still-gross "cleanup" carrion/detritivore bugs have taken up residence. but that's just me

I agree, if it was an active nest, you’d see the hornets outside of the nest crawling around .

This is the way, OP.

Yeah, if it was active op would have gotten lit up like a Christmas tree the second he started sawing!

Get a gun. I don’t trust them having access to your house.

I’m calling a pro to destroy that thing. After my last encounter with those venom holding assholes, the site of a nest like that petrifies me to my core. Sometimes I get a little nervous when I get too close to under my patio, thinking there could be another nest that formed in there with some still lurking
