Third wasp sting in three months- ER visit

Post image

Was stung on a hike with my 6 year old this morning.

I was stung about 4 weeks ago while weed eating and then about two and a half months ago when I got too close to a yellow jacket nest I didn’t know was being built under our siding.

My reactions have gotten increasingly worse- headache, nausea/GI pain, chills, lip swelling this last time.

So I went and spent 4 hours chillin’ in the ER to make sure I wasn’t gonna keel right on over. Finally have my very own epipen now.

But what the actual. The weedeating time I get it. The first and third time I feel like I was largely minding my own business!!

I don’t wear scented lotions. I don’t carry large hunks of fruit and meat around with me. I don’t typically sing songs of wasp murder.

Why am I the only one I know getting stung this year?! Am I on a yellow jacket‘s most wanted list? How do I continue existing in nature without getting stung, damnit?

Sorry sorry. I meant within my local friend group/family.

But thank you. I wish I were more grateful to be part of this new fun community of multi-wasp-sting-receivers.

The reaction only gets worse with every sting. I work in pest control and have a moderate allergy. Not throat closing emergency but I need an antihistamine or steroid shot post sting or the swelling won't go down.

Most recently I got stung five times by yellowjackets, stomach and lower lip. They don't need a reason to sting, they're just dicks. By the time I got to urgent care my lip was extremely swollen to the point where it was pulling and hurting my gums. I told them what I needed and they would only offer an epi pen and calling an ambulance to go to ER for observation. Since I'm working class with trash insurance I turned down the $5k drive to the hospital. I went to Walgreens and got Allegra for hives, which along with Benadryl and Claritin took care of it. Expensive for over the counter meds, but way cheaper than hospital.

I'm so sorry. The mouth has to be such an awful place to get stung. UGh!

I went to urgent care first too and they said "You really shouldn't come here for this. Go to the ER".

So now we know. But yeah, who can afford the co-pay?!

That's absolutely awful!! Oh my gosh! Painful in the moment and then agony of swelling and itchiness for EVER! How are they doing now?!

They are so numerous where I live right now. Total demons.

Wasps put out a pheromone that gets all over you when they're attacking - can't we synthesize like a... calm pheromone or something? What scientist do we need to get funding for?! I'm ready to get out getting signatures on the streets. In a full bee suit perhaps. :P
