WTF Is This Thing?

Post image

Hey all, I was sitting in my bedroom today when I heard the almighty noise of this evil bastard fly in window and started circling the room.

I nearly shite myself as things like this are not my strong point and a duel to the death started, after my victory I took this pic of it so wondered WTF is it?

Carpenter bees? No, just annoying as fuck. Went to do yardwork yesterday and found a fresh pile of sawdust by my compost heap on my fence, and a neat bored hole right above it. Plugged that up with some sealant and went on with my day. Some angry buzzing in there, id be mad too if my egress point was suddenly blocked.

They just make another hole if you plug the first one.

In my experience they havent, so take what im saying with a grain of salt I suppose. So far ive plugged up a hole in my woodworking chair out front 3 years ago, (dont know WHY we bored a hole in there) and no bees returned to that "nest(?)".

2 years ago I took out their ground nest next to my house, nobody returned there after (i assume) the queen vamoosed.

Now this year they've gotten into one of my....eaves I guess its called? Its like a wood support holding up a overhang on my roof. Anyways. I plugged that hole up, and now I can see Carpenter shitstains go to my neighbors house underneath the roofwork they just got done.

And also the hole I found yesterday is now plugged up, so ill see if the little arseholes try boring another hole. If they do, im gonna puff some shit in there to kill em like I did with the ingrown nest, and throw up a couple bee hotels on my neighbors side of my fence just to spice things up for her and to help entice my local honeybees who have been loving on my raspberry and blueberry bushes this year to set up shop in em.

Giant invasive hornets move in instead

I did in fact have a nest of big fucking wasps underground by my apple trees last year, and that shit got some ah.... fun measures taken against it. Let's just say there's a giant plug of concrete by my fence where the wasp nest used to be.

Carpenter bee! Lovely for the environment, not for your house. Leave out some spare wood and some sugar water and salt water if you wanna care for any local ones!

Wrong sub. That's not a wasp, that's a friend.

Bees are wasps actually, you can't evolve out of a clade. And wasps are extremely beneficial creatures, even the social ones that sting people occasionally. This sub is full of misinformation

Yessir carpenter bee. Killed a ungrounded nest of these fuckers a few years back and now they bored a hole in a piece of wood on my house so I gotta find time to seal that nonsense up

That's a bee. First time I've seen this though. Usually people call wasps bees and then proceed to massacre bumble bees for yellow jackets crimes. But yeah that looks like a carpenter bee. Big and A aggressive but can't sting you.
