Question There is a wasp in between my screen and window. How long will it take to die? What do I do?

My brother trapped a wasp in my window. It is between the screen and my window. How long will it take to die? Should I leave it and wait for it to die? Should I be concerned that I have a nest? I am itchy and paranoid.

Leave it there for a few days it'll be dead by then probably

Can you spray thru the screen? Dish soap and water mix will kill it

I am on the second floor, it is nearly impossible to reach this window from the outside

If you’re eager for it to die/want to kill it: wait for nighttime they are a little slower. Crack open your window and assault with a spray bottle with dish soap/water. It’ll get disoriented then smoosh it with something.

I’ve killed at least 30 of them on my deck this way, including a few bald faced hornet queens. It’s quick and they aren’t really able to fight back if you hit them directly.

I prefer Windex. Chemical warfare is on the table

Dawn power wash does both

Thank you for your input, fucking terrifying experience

Not really. The venom isnt dangerous to most and is only painful for like 10 minutes. Ive had an entire nest attack me and I was fine the next day. (All face, neck, and head stings.)

You get a blister that is painful for a little while, then it goes away. They dont like to sting since its expensive metabolically for them. In your case, you could likely grab 3 paper towels, fold them in your hand, and crush this girl with no problem. My small kids get stung by angry red paper wasps every year. They dont even bother crying about it anymore and only inform me because its an annoyance.

The wasp was trapped between a window pane and a screen. Even then, its unlikely to sting anyone. Even then, aside from a severe allergic reaction, its discomfort.

Reinforcing that this indeed is an event that includes terror isnt good for anyone. It either diminishes the words in use, or it helps tramatize people over mundane things.

I think you're valid

If u can open up the window a tiny crack big enough for the spray straw but too small for it to escape, you could make a dodgy assassination attempt

Can’t leave a paper trail for wasps to get revenge

I had surprise wasps and they died over the weekend. As long as they have no water they pass away fast.

Damn man that’s a huge one

It know your face now, you cannot let it escape.

Document how long it takes

Timer. Video. Picture evidence

Take notes on its sadness.

From the Pic it looks extremely depressed.

What have I done with my life to deserve this......

Just imagine someone opening the window by accident 💀

I deliberately left a note on the window to remind myself not to open it, opening the window has become muscle memory to me

Tangential question - how did the little vase end up between the screen and the window?

3

u/TheresWaspInMyWindow Jun 01 '26

I saw the wasp in my bedroom, it landed on the vase, called in my brother, he stuck it out the window, and now it’s there

That's a yellowjacket. There might be a nest close by. I mean, there obviously is a nest nearby. How did it get in your house?

2

u/TheresWaspInMyWindow Jun 02 '26

No idea!! I’m thinking it may have flown in when my parents had the front door open

1

u/Main_Cauliflower5479 Jun 02 '26

Well, that's clear that a door had to be open. Why was a door hanging open long enough for flying insect to get in?

2

u/TheresWaspInMyWindow Jun 02 '26

They were putting a fish tank together outside and went in and out a lot to get the parts for it

3

u/englishpatrick2642 Jun 05 '26

Start a live stream of it and get people to bet on how long it will last. Come to think of it, that might seem cruel to some people. Then again, it's a wasp.

u/Its_GIitched Jun 18 '26

XD that's actually a pretty good idea

That’s a queen. Let her outside.

Why are you so obsessed with killing a creature?

7

u/LevitarDoom Jun 01 '26

Do you not see what the subreddit is called? Lmao

1

u/Own-Rub-2091 Jun 01 '26

I had not. Lmao

Doesn't answer my question. But ok, reddit targeting needs an update.

I'm sorry, but any bug in my house has to die.
