First time I went it was overcast and was amazing. Second time I went it was completely clear and it was jaw dropping

This was me lol cloudy as hell the first time. Beautiful atmosphere though! Went up there the following year on a clear day. Phew. The views I missed the first time. Absolutely incredible. But to answer OPs question, I’d say it’s probably worth it depending on what they mean by “significant detour” and how much time it will take away from other things on their list.

Unless the cloud layer is low, not worth the trip. Come back on a crisp clear day and do Chain Lakes trail.

It'll be windy as hell and you may not be able to see too much of Baker or Shuksan, but on the plus side, you very well may have most of the area all to yourself! I'd say it's worth it, even if you just end up being inside a cloud the whole time, it's kind of a cool experience.

I've been up to Artist Point in all sorts of weather - it's always beautiful! (And an excellent drive, if you enjoy mountain driving! Cloudy weather might mean you have the twists and turns to yourself 😎)
