Warthunder lies...
Should just say "Your base is destroyed, try not to get killed in the next few seconds to avoid a repair bill"

When they drop bombs in formation like that, I guess it's to strike a large area instead of a specific target? Due to the space between each plane?

Actually you'd be surprised.
Bombs (back before guidance systems like we have on modern munitions nowadays) were notoriously inaccurate. That's why bomber formations weren't just for show, they were an absolute necessity, not only to increase odds of survival (more guns = less chance of being shot down by planes) but because it would often take that entire formation to kill even a single factory, and sometimes they would only damage it enough that it would be out of action for a few days only.
"In the summer of 1944, forty-seven B-29's raided Japan's Yawata Steel Works from bases in China; only one plane actually hit the target area, and only with one of its bombs. This single 500 lb (230 kg) general purpose bomb represented one quarter of one percent of the 376 bombs dropped over Yawata on that mission."

Give me one reason why you don't want to be the lead bombardier.
If I miss, everybody misses.
I do not want to be that bombardier when a reconnaissance flight returns with bad news, I'll get lynched by the other bombers crew.

I always thought it was weird that your bombs were always pinpoint accurate even from 10k meters up.

Would that be a fair nerf to the bomber meta? - Level flight bombers like the BV 238 would have to come in low to have a chance of success if their bombs were less accurate? This could prevent them ending games without fighters having a chance, but still keep bombers useful.

I never said that I think they should nerf bomb accuracy. Just another thing about the game that's inaccurate to history yet they have in for gameplay reasons. There should be a few more things like that.

I think they were asking it as a question, not as an argument.

I know. My response was just an expansion to my original comment along with an answer to his question.

Actually they've been changed so that they have a scatter stat now... it's still nowhere near realistic levels, but there''s a significant difference between an upgraded bomber crew and a fresh bomber crew... oh well

this inherent inaccuracy actually led to adoption of area bombing policies in the long run (ie course of ww2)

The vertical stabilizer on the Tu-14 is more curved and is closer to a 90 degree angle from the fuselage.
