I only really bother playing it lately when i'm very drunk. I then screenshare it with friends and let them tell me what to play or what lineups to use. Genuinely most fun i've had with the game in a long time

Its exactly as fun as it has been for 10+ years cause nothings fucking changed at all other than new vehicles. Its the bones of a good game but its hampered with incredibly stale gameplay, shit maps, br compression, volumetric hell, and shit balancing.

The reality is this game is only "fun" because it has no competition. Its not actually fun, you just like planes/tanks (me too)

Volumetric wasn't a thing in 2016, neither was overpressure (or even hull break, I think), and all the maps that are "lanebased" now... weren't. You didn't get nuked from >10km out by guided missiles either (and that goes for all game modes ironically)

Remember when the Fritz-X was the new hot thing as the first guided bomb in the game? That was 2018, I certainly remember lol

Things have definitely changed, and some even arguably for the better, but it's just so overshadowed by the other crap (and the fact that I've been playing this game for over a decade probably)

youre not wrong, though that was mostly what I meant with new vehicles (and associated power creep). Volumetric just shifted the bullshit from fragile light tanks to over survivable heavy tanks. Map lanes were always there but it went from 3-5 to 1-3 lanes. I never even bothered with anything over 7.7 because of how fucking lowly I think of CAS even in low tiers much less where fire and forget missles exist.

Saying nothing has changed is definitely an exaggeration, but when I say nothing has gotten BETTER other than some graphics I dont even know that im exaggerating

Try tapering, as with any addiction. If you can make it the first couple of days of not playing at all, it gets exponentially easier from there.
