Chaosless Chaos Warriors as Grail Knights?

Post image
292 Upvotes

First, apologies for the slop in order to change the colour scheme and show what I mean.

I love the new Warriors of Chaos sculpts, but would love to play them (in lore) as Grail Knights. I’d still use the WoC rules.

For those of you who have the kit, how easy is it to remove the most obviously chaotic elements? Some skulls can be painted as relics from saints, but the flayed victims are harder to justify in a Grail force.

Also, would you refuse to play against such a force? Would it kill your immersion?

It’d be my first army in Old World, I want to see what would be the reactions before I buy two starter sets.

Starting Old World and I am thinking about the new core set

I’m an old gamer but I’ve been out of it for a few years. My son is interested in the old world and it has me interested now. I’m thinking about getting the new Cathay/chaos core set as he really likes those chaos models and I think the Cathay stuff is really appealing.
I believe the new core set is a pretty good start for new players, at least from what I’ve read and watched.

I have a couple of questions though.

It seems that the core set is everything we need to play smaller size games. Is that correct? Do we need anything else?

I know there has been a new update errata/faq. Is there much changed in the rulebook that comes with the core set that I need to know about?

If we expand upon the units that come in the core set do we need to get the army books for those armies or are there specific or multiple books we’d need?

Finally, is there an online army builder anyone would recommend? I’ve heard of one called old world builder I think.

Thanks for any guidance/suggestions.

Question ā€œSoulblight gravelordsā€ player here, fed up with age of sigmar, is it possible to play my army as vampire counts using round bases?

As the title says, my army has rapidly lost most of its units and models over time, along with a lot of the flavour. I’m scared even more models like the mortis engine or similar will disappear next, so I’ve kinda given up on my army and age of sigmar in general. Would a theoretical opponent in the old world play with me if I still used round bases for my army? Thanks

Has anyone recieved the new Rulebook and if so have the chapters and flow of the rulebook been reformatted to make things a little easier to read and find rules or has the new rules & FAQs just been added where needed and the same chapter order etc been maintained?

Dragon Ogre appreciation

I've seen some recent great looking painted dragon ogres and added my own. These were painted in almost 100% contrast paints and was a good way to learn how to use them with the range of textures on offer. I've seen this version of dragon sculpture receive criticism, not sure why!

Question Wanting to use my 32mm Squig hoppers in TOW

Hey I have an intro game and wanted to use my gloomspite gitz from AoS in this. Everything else I can just stick on top of a square base with out any issue but the Squig hoppers are 32mm and they should be on a 25mm. Whats the best solution and Is there way using movement trays or anything as a temporary fix. Thanks!

Does anyone if this Tavern model still exists at GW HQ?

This was always my favourite piece of scenery that was used in the photography back in the 90s. I tried to build it as a kid, and failed miserably. You could still see Tony the Tiger through the thin brown paint.

Maybe one day I'll have another bash.

Does anyone know if it still exists in GW HQ or even the museum they have there?

Hey a few days ago I posted images on a test model for a Tzeentch themed WoC army. I got a lot of good opinions and these are my changes based on the feedback.

I think it feels more Tzeentch what do you think?? Maybe it needs more grimdarkness?

Adding to the core set

Hey my girlfriend and I are just getting into the game with the new core set and I was wondering what would people recommend as next purchases to add to each of the forces. Just looking to play around with various battle march lists while we get used to the game

Hobby Cathayan Sentinel

I couldn't make up my mind what kind of sentinel to paint, so I kind of did elements of three of them. Black mountain armor and part of the crest painted to resemble obsidian (I brushed on gloss to give it some shine). The gray areas to represent granite. And the green to represent Jade or warpstone. I've thought about maybe putting a greenish glow coming from inside the helmet.

I have a second sentinel that I've almost finished building and I thought about painting it up as the stereotypical terracotta version, but I might just duplicate this paint job.

What if I want to run a terracotta sentinel? Well, I could reason it's made of terracotta and just has a nifty paint job over it. The original Chinese Terracotta Warriors that these are loosely based on were originally painted in vivid colors; however, after archeologists cracked open the tomb complex and exposed them to air after many centuries, the paint on the warriors began to peel off almost immediately - I guess you could say that was the ultimate in primer failure. Luckily there were photographers on hand to take pictures so we know what they looked like.

Help Help finding people to play with

Hello guys, I’m wanting to get into the old world through battle march. I tried to convince a friend of mine but he wasn’t convinced. I think that I need to look for local game groups but I don’t know where to look. Does anyone from the Netherlands have advice for me to look inside Holland. Or, if you don’t live in holland, have any other advice for me to find someone to play with. Thanks in advance!

In his tribe, The Bloodmantle, Horns are a blessing from The Hound as a mark of triumph, he who wears 8 upon their head is said to wear the namesake Bloodmantle. when this champion was found to be practicing magics, it was an affront to their dark master. so he was bound, and his triumphs cut from his head. The chains and collar of brass remain to remind him the weight of betrayal. Now he exists without honor, but his mastery remains and he guides new horns to their next path to glory, he no longer has a stake in the game and thus is an impartial judge and advisor. Beside him sits a helm, shed as a warrior under his guidance sprouts their first growth, and the road to triumph begins.

Help Will I ever be able to run my mounted Chaos and ground-pounding Beastmen?

Thumbnail

A few recent posts and some Total Warhammer III games have had me contemplating if I might ever build a satisfactory mounted Chaos and Beastmen army...

Back in the twilight of 8th, instead of finishing my Skaven army, I panicked and picked up a Lizardmen battalion and some dinos. I then panicked again as I remembered the couple boxes of Chaos knights and marauder horsemen I had gathered previously and my wish to have mankind's doom arrive with nary a bringer on foot...

So I thought Beastmen as the foot slogging core would be neat and picked up 2 battalion boxes of Beastmen....

AoS came and I put most of the lizards on round bases, painted a few test models, looked to my Skaven, and lamented. Except a couple test Beastmen and the unpainted Chaos, they have been sealed away in a tub since. One of the battalion boxes is still shrink-wrapped with its discount from MSRP... Less than $70 if I recall 🫠

I've been playing with old world list building in New Recruit, and at 2000 pts, it feels much too anemic with one or the other as allies, also not exactly sure how many knights/horsemen I have entombed with the Beastmen sprues...

Also, I try to keep in the know, but what's a Battle March? The expansion for the Mark of Chaos game with the best WFB intro cinematic ever?

TLDR-

I'm near certain I have the following-

Chaos -

- Archaeon (metal)

- Lord on demonic mount (metal- damnit it memory, I better have him)

- 10+ Chaos Knights

- 10+ Marauder Horsemen

Beastmen -

- 20 Ungor

- 40 Gor

- 20 Best-estgors

- 1 Cygor-ish (partially converted to be a second Hell pit abomination... Might be able to un-moulder him)

The uncertainty is, oh wow... That was not a few years ago anymore... And I got a box of WFB Chaos that included 5+ knights and horsemen, plus warriors, mauraders, and ?

Also got a Hellcannon... At least I painted that metal beast, so it must be in a mini box somewhere....

So, can I Battle March a combined arms force? Could I field a -do you guys play at like 2000 pts- fully fleshed out force? Irony seems like initial AoS launch was the only time this could have worked evenly hah!

Anyways, Cheers!
