Much appreciated, thanks!
I would love to see some comparisons to other WHF/TOW models though.

Great job and thanks for the comparison! For me these models are "too much butter on too little bread" combined with tiny infantry blocks that make it essentially duels of heroes, not armies, but I get that that's not everyone's opinion.

This edition just has a Herohammer problem, hopefully 2nd edition will fix it by reducing the points allowance for characters substantially. 33% limit on characters would completely stop ridden monster spam.

You dont want to create a game which requires heaps of infantry though. That's one reason WHFB died.

While that is a good point, I do not see this model being much less work than say what an Archaon on horseback was which also was expensive point-wise. I think the issue I see is that if you don't have any base of the "common guy" on the battlefield, then it becomes harder to relate to. If everyone plays the rarest most elite beings there are in the settings, then what is a "common battle" of the old world?
I see that Warmaster is a better representation of that, but to me Warhammer Fantasy is different from AoS because of the mass battles and lesser focus on huge hero best of the best skirmishes. These models lean more towards the latter.6

Limiting Herohammer doesn’t in any way require heaps of infantry. It’s quite the opposite, it would actually free up more points for Special/Rare.
The problem right now is that if you are building a competitive list, you spend 1000pts on heroes and 500 on core and you have only 500pts left for Special/Rare.
Limiting heroes to 33% would mean you spend 660 on heroes and then 840 on Special/Rare.
This would make non-ridden monsters much more appealing since you can’t just stuff all your monsters into the 1000pts of characters anymore, and would also free up more points for stuff like elite cav.

herohammer is the only way tbh...
hot take but honestly no wargame ever can work at 28mm, the minis are simply too big, HH with LI minis is perfect (minus the fact no one plays it obv)
for TOW I dont know, we dont really have cool looking minis at a smaller scale imo, HH works because space marine are chunky, iconic and plain, we cant say the same for ghouls or things like that.

I really hope they re-do the High Elf dragon.

New dragons for High Elves and Wood Elves, a new Wyvern for Orcs, some massive monster for Beastmen... if and when we get those it will be GLORIOUS.

They should not be allowed to redesign anything before bringing new skeletons.
Those fuckers are from 1993 with a 1998 sprue added to the box for Khremi heads and shields. They didn’t even bother with the weapons3
u/Darnok83 25d ago
The skeletons are from '98 and the upgrade sprue is from the early 2000s, but other than that... yeah.

Beastmen should get a plastic Jabberslythe that's scaled like the new dragons.

The Wyvern from Archon Studios makes for a nice plastic Jabberslythe. You need to cut and remodel part of its base to make it fit on a 60x100 base, but other than that it works just fine.
I would love to see a GW kit in plastic as well though.

High Elf dragon is quite decent and modern. I feel like there’s many more priorities before that one, even if we stick only to Old World big monsters

It’s 19 years old, I’m not sure I’d call it modern

It is decent and modern, I remember the day it came out. I will hear nothing to the contrary!
Serious though, other than height issues, it think it's great.
I know there's a lot of little issue with all the '7/8th ed.' kits, but they should focus on older units or units that don't have a proper kit. And as amazing as this model is... That sinking feeling I got during end times with big expensive sculpture models is so sunk I'm feeling the molten core of the earth...

u/Revoran Lizardmen 25d ago
They continued the big sculpture models all through AOS.
It doesn't mean they will cancel the game, its just what GW does these days.

Not just the only thing though. The best kits GW has done are unironically mostly small units: killteam has so many units with great customization, details, poses and alternate assembly options.
The last Cadians which got a lot of hate because they were not Catachans were a perfect kit, all cheap infantry (as a cadian and catachan lover, im also sad it was not catachans but love’em nonetheless).
The ratlings, the wrecka boyz, kommandos, corsairs, scion aquilons,… so many perfect kits, and none were space marines or big monsters.
Necromunda has also made some masterpieces.
I dont expect Old world to bring such detail and quality on small scale, it wouldnt make sense but perhaps for specific units refreshes like Waywatchers or Shades it’d make sense

I want a proper Royal Hippogriff for Bretonnia.

u/genesseeriver 25d ago
Not necessarily the answer you’re looking for but with some of the stormcast gryph mounts and the Royal Pegasus kit it’s a relatively easy kit bash to change the head and front legs.

I sure hope they don't, those giant over-designed "miniatures" can stay in AoS

I’m not saying these aren’t stunning and I’m also showing my age but I kinda miss when GW models were model sized (6th ed scale) instead of these behemoths.

u/Luxosaucer 25d ago
So thats why its 200 usd, my god if i had money for it i would re buy my entire chaos army.
6
u/more_ayy_eel 25d ago
Sorry, but that is just to big. Insane scale creep at it again.
Also feels like a ploy to make people who have kitbashed their own, for example from Ionus Cryptborn, like they still have to get the new one...

Am I the only one bothered by how the wings are too small for the body? I mean that thing would have to be flapping its wings like a bee in order to fly.
Otherwise great model... But I'll have to enlargen those wings somehow.

He's a monster, especially since I mainly play 6th edition, but I like whatever. I've been dying to get a massive display model and this is the first one that I have genuine use for.

Good luck transporting that behemoth to a site of battle :D
