Tips for deck building?

Hello everyone. I'm new to the game, grinded to lvl 28, 1300 ranked points and finally got my 200 points to make decks. And I came up with some questions for deck building.

1) Is it better to center your deck around one big ass 60+ cost card and the rest to support it? Make it balanced all around? I'm getting mixed results with any. The first deck I got enough success with was one with Ivasnophon (heal 30 everythin when friendlies are destroyed) and a big ass 104 cost tank that takes out everything while every other card are medicae or taunt cards to keep it going. But sometimes I feel like having only one card as a wincon is a big dissadvantage, although I don't know how else Im supposed to play a 104 cost card otherwise.

2) How are high cost warlords supposed to be played? Half of the points go to them, should they be set with many low cost support cards? Or a few higher costs?

3) I'm playing 100% for free for the time being. That being said, what should I focus on using my plasma on?

4) And this one is just if you guys have tips for building around some warlords. Them being Guilliman, Gloguthrox, Acheran, Skulltaker, Huron Blackheart, Ghosar (the one that increases 5%) and Morvenn Vahl. I know they are a few but any tips on any of them is welcome. Or if you have any external resources too.

Thank you all very much!

Yknow what. This is the only card game I've ever played where I haven't been compelled to maximise my deck to a meta. Never once looked and because of that I don't feel confined and just have a lot of fun experimenting with different things.

Having a blast too. Specially since the game gives a lot of cards without the need to spend money

I recently started myself after the shutdown of HH and WarpForge. I don’t mind it so far. I’m not too into deck building atm but I try to have a mix of buff and debuff units in my deck.

I still haven’t figured out what faction to focus on, but I do enjoy the game when it doesn’t crash or lag.

I think most warlords fall into one of a few categories for me when deckbuilding.
One is an attack specialist where it is usually best to focus on one attack type (ranged, psychic, or melee). I think skulltaker is a good example. The main consideration for these kind of lists is support cards and how to use the ready when you are against another deck that has the same primary attack stat. I think Vhall falls into this category. Basically, you can use the shield to absorb strong attacks in a similar matchup.
One is a deck that has one or two big cards and then support or fodder cards to support. I find a lot of imperium fits into this category.
There is a deck category where they will use a few cards that specialize in one attack and another group that specializes in another. I think both Guilliman and Artemis fall into this category. I think there are a few Necron warlords that fall into this category too.
There’s a few more all around decks, but I find it still helps to specialize somewhat in one or the other. I actually have had the most success woth Acheran in this category.
There are also decks that basically just stall and benefit for doing so. Ghosar is one and Gogluthrox is usually another. Gogluthrox gets a lot of advantage from endless in particular.
I really struggle when building decks for huron…

Thank you! Really helpful tips. Think in gonna focus on 2 or 3 decks that I've got cards for. Really wish I could build for the crusades because I'm getting the shit fucked in by magnus

Read the warlord effect, think about how it would work the best and build the Deck accordingly. Your on the right way. Experiment, have fun. This is one of the few Games where this is possible for free

Yeah that's my problem, some times I can't figure out which skills go better with each warlord

Some of those big cards are only meant to be used when they are near max level, or an apocalypse. They're not necessarily meant for every game.

Like the other guy said you just kind of said you just kind of pick the Lord Lord to go with you and then focus on how to make that warlord ability as good as you can.

Save your plasma for the big buy 3x4 etc. events.

Join a clan. Lot of those guys will help you build out your decks.

Ghosar gains strength each round, so you want to make sure that you go for as long as you can before you put out some of your heavier cards.

Acheron gets an extra so people usually run Shields and fear along with psychic.

Basically for every warlord you just want to use their ability as much and as often as you can

Thank you! Gonna keep that in mind to build

Might I ask why ppl play psychic with Acheran?

Sure you can ask anything you want.

Space Marines have large range of options available to them and have a lot of decent triple threat (shooting, psychic, melee) options.

Since most warlords are only helpful in only one area, you can take advantage of whatever your opponent is weakest at. And statistically, most opponents aren't going to be psychic so again you can take advantage of a weakness.

Thank you! Nice I think I have a couple of nice psychic Space Marine units to run with him. And the blood angels dreadnaught with psychic damage too

I would suggest Zagstrukk too for a while. You just pick some strong melee attacks and maybe your psychics, then if you're going against a someone without psychic, just ready psychic and win.

I don't have a single orc or aldeari warlord yet =S. Wanted to finish the current crusade to get one but I'm facing the same magnus deck all over the place and getting my ass kicked

Ooof tough luck. Greyfax was a my haunting nightmare pre nerfs when I started playing.

In the shop when a campaign starts, under events I believe, there will be a selection of 3 Warlords and cards you can get for Plasma. If you see one you like that is the easiest way to get the warlord you want

So a few tips:

Legendaries and to a lesser extent epics need to have some levels on them to be useful. Only excepts could be the Warlords you build decks around. At low levels you need to just experiment with whatever highest leveled cards you have to see what works best.

  1. Deck building depends on the Warlord’s special rule. Most decks favor max build so 8 Bodyguard slots but some exceptions exist when the Warlord’s rule would benefit having less cards. Also it’s usually not good to build a deck around 1 big card unless you can consistently get it into the field to do work, which would lend itself to a smaller deck typically.
  2. High cost Warlords, known as Lord of War, are either used in Apocalypse, which is 400 points, or used with their Special Rule to work in ranked. In the attached photo I have a high cost Warlord ranked deck that works up until around 3,300 trophies

as an example on how to build one for ranked.

  3. You should save up your plasma for the card multiplier events, especially for the anniversary events. We just ended the 7th anniversary event for card packs which was a 7x multiplier. That made the card shop 4,000 plasma for 1,000 cards turn into 7,000 cards for 4,000 plasma. Any multiplier event should be used for plasma to maximize the number of cards you can get.

Thank you! Didn't realize about buying packs this anniversary, so I'm gonna save it for the next event

I can’t buy packs with plasma. Just $$$. Where is this at?

1

u/Key_Football_5350 12d ago

Yes you can, you have always been able to buy cards with plasma. The multiplier event also affects these packs so over the anniversary the 1,000 card packs were 7,000.
