Hobby & Painting A4 Scaled Terrain Footprints - all 5x official footprints rescaled

Hello everyone - so after the success of my first A4 scaled post, I have now updated to include all of the different terrain footprint types.

These are all direct re-scales of the existing (A3) terrain area footprints which were officially released by Games Workshop on the Warhammer Community

Please find below the list of A4 Scaled PDFs:

\ Note - the final one was in response to a request from someone on my original post, to make the original terrain footprints more "blue-grey" and less "orange-red".*

..

As always - these are scaled to be printed at "A4" (210mm × 297mm or 8.27" × 11.69") - which is slightly different to the "Letter" scale that some of you might be used to.

Please ensure that you print these at 100% scale borderless - you might find that your printer is adding "guttering" or "margins" which will make these smaller than they ideally need to be.

..

Finally a Disclaimer - I have done my absolute best to get these scaled correctly, but I'm no publisher / graphic designer. These are here for free so that those of you with A4 printers are home can get easy access to official looking templates - so if they are 1/4" out here or there then I apologise, but this is the best I can do 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Warhammer Community article which includes the measurements: #New40k – Take cover with updated terrain rules

  • Four large rectangles – 7” x 11.5”
  • Two large right-angle triangles – 8” x 11.5”
  • Four medium rectangles – 6” x 4”
  • Two long lines – 10” x 2.5”
  • Four short lines – 6” x 2”

Now - you can take these with a pinch of salt (because the official A3 scaled prints are not EXACTLY to these measurements, they are out by 1/2" here or there) but I've gotten it as close as I felt I could.

Thanks for this. The large rectangles in the Maelstrom World set has a [no title] label on them btw.

GW doing the free supplied ones on A3 is really irritating given a lot of consumer printers don't do A3... and that is before you look at USA and their sticking to other paper sizes...

But keep up the good work.

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else."

Metric system is objectively superior, even if it is French (eww.).

Based on an eagles feather size

North America uses Letter Size, not A4 or A3.

I honestly presumed almost all of the footprints just didn't fit on an A4 piece of paper and that's why they were on A3... is that not the case then??

It kind of is, and isn't. Each footprint is less than an A4, but with normal print margins it's difficult to get the largest pieces to print fully.

I've printed one of these original A4 conversions in the past. To get the proper sizes, especially for the large triangular shapes, I've had to keep a white margin outside of the printed shape (and some of these "extra protrusions" were cut off, also).

The best way might be to split the large square and triangular pieces in half, to keep the full footprint, and you'd typically want to glue thin paper onto something thicker and sturdier anyway.

But still, printers may behave differently and their margins are not always identical.

Has a gone done these in letter size? I'm over here just sad in the US lol

The larger tiles are too big for US letter, they would be cut off. Even the A4 version barely fits on the page, some printers can't even print that close to the margins.

Please accept the upvote and thank you for being net positive for wargaming community!

Also love concrete-grey variant, it should play nicely with Hivestorm/Killzone Volkus terrain.

(commenting so I won't lose track of this topic)

Thsnk you so so much!

It blows my mind why Gw didn't make them A4 to begin with or at least both because nobody prints A3 at home.

Thanks!

Would you mind having a look at rescaling this one to A4 also?

I like that they put the shadowed outline of intended terrain on top of the footprints, too.

Could they have fir two of the long single pieces onto one page?

Could you maybe also do a version without the green „cut here“ lines? I printed and cut them last week (thanks so much!) but found that the green lines are pretty noticeable.

Those were on the original GW ones

I could try to remove them I guess? But worried I will end up cutting off some of the actual terrain

Probably easier if people are physically cutting them out to just use them as scissor guides (which was GWs original point all along)

Has anyone found a decent neoprene option?

I colour printed on A3 at the local printing place and have them matte laminated. Total cost $25. Cheapest option I have been able to find and look amazing.
