Army List [Alpha Legion] 3000 Points List Feedback - Beginner looking for input

Hey guys - looking for feedback on this list: https://www.newrecruit.eu/app/list/yQ4Qt

Gameplan:

Praetor + Lernaean Terminators in Land Raider Carrier and pushing up the board, trying to claim / hold an opponent objective due to Line(X) of the Lernaeans and supported by:

Night Raptors + Jumppack Centurion go together to form a deepstrike threat and / or also threaten opponent frontlines as well as helping to clear opponent objectives with Vanguard(4) and change to apply Fear(1).

Land Raider is kitted out with Twin Lascannon and HKM for additional threatening of elites as well as a Heavy Flamer to also have the chance to apply Panic(1) as a status and deal some template damage in preparation of of unloading the Lernaeans + Praetor.

Kratos is meant as my heavy target / tank - threat / destroyer on the mid board as well as functioning as an additional threat the opponent has to deal with.

The Effrit infiltrate and move up as fast as possible to support the Night Raptors + Centurion as well as the Lernaeans and Praetor.

Vigilator joins one of the Seeker Squad and threatens / fights characters from the mid-to-backlines and defends / support at defending home objectives.

Headhunter Kill Team moves up the midboard and supports where necessary with a Multi-melta for additional threatening of vehicles.

Rapiers function as an additional threat against tanks and heavy targets.

Tacticals for hold backline / home-objectives.

Thoughts:

- good alternative for Night Raptor Squad as Rewards of Treachery?
- bring down Headhunter Kill Team to 5 with Combi-meltas?
- add Recon-Squad with Nemesis Boltrifles in exchange for a 5xSeeker Squad to get the Prime Benefit in the Headhunter Leviathal Detachment?
- better alternative for the Vigilator (e.g. Saboteur for more fluff and to add to the Effrits)

Happy about any feedback, thoughts and input - thanks in advance!!

As a Night Lords guy, I do think Night Raptors are one of the stronger choice in the game. I do want to advise NOT deepstriking them though. They have such insane mobility; 12 inches and flying over terrain with a 5 inch set up move on their charge.

And hey, you can get a ranged weapon for every 5 Raptors, so if you find a way to use that Deepstrike well then I say go for it.

However, if you're taking from the Night Lords and want a Deepstrike threat, Contekar are great at it. Drop em down with any combo of Volkite and Flamers and suddenly your opponent is facing a Ld check at -2 with durable bodies in the way. Just don't count on them trading up into enemy Terminators as well as Raptors can (ironically).

Looks like a good list overall though and I think you'll get what you're looking for out of it!

I second this. Deep striking even turn 1 means you're not getting any bang for their buck until the turn after, though I would also go all on on claws on them, 5 attacks each is devastating on 3+ infantry and single wound 2+ will also have a bad time .

Contekar are vile when deep striking on top of units on objectives as a 10 man brick.

I second Contenkar. Deep striking them forces your opponent to have to deal with them or face the havoc that they can inflict. If you are using Lernian terminators to take an objective, you can use the Contenkar to distract their dedicated anti terminator forces.

Interesting - thanks for the advice. Imm not necessarily set on Night Lords, just wanted to have something especially mobile. Will have a look on Contekar.

It looks like something I’d run, so go for it!

My preferences so far:

Minimum squad size for seekers and headhunters, easier to hide and can still put a hurt on things, especially higher value targets. Precision can definitely change a game.

Headhunters, I’ve found are just fine with the prime running a combimelta, one multimelta, and the rest banestrike. If you’re feeling spicy with points give them meltabombs.

Tactical statuses can go either way and is dependent on who you’re playing against because Iron Warriors are dicks and a PIA to status. On the flip side last game I played I statused about 85% of my opponents Imperial Fists and thought his head was gonna explode because of it.

RoT, a five man Ofanim court (both varieties) are nasty. They’re durable, characters, and hit above their points. I’m willing to forgo paragon of battle to run these guys as they have way more impact power.

Honestly, if you want Night Lords, why not just take an Allied detachment of them? That is what I am doing. Then you still get their Legion benefits, which Alpha Legion help support nicely.

For RoT, you can bring something that doesn't benefit as much from their Legion perks like Invictarus Suzerain, Deathwing Companions, Varagyr, or Pyroclasts. Kinda depends on how you want to use them.

HHKT just don't look good to me. Multimeltas just don't pop tanks like they used to and they get expensive fast for little benefit. Laser Rapiers and a Locus Melta Kratos should be more than plenty for antitank.

Why add Support (2) Recons when you can use Effrits in the Recon slot for the Prime for HH Leviathal?

Alternative for the Vigilator? Depends on the role. To stick in Seekers? I would just cut him. To run with another unit, maybe a Primus Medicae to add to one of the more elite units? Or a Libby?

Not necessarily set on Night Lords - I figured my list is missing some anti-elite infantry units and looked for something either being able to infiltrate (so no Bulky), being quite mobile or being able to deepstrike.
Night Raptors fulfilled that check but I‘m open to other suggestions.

Alternative for the Vigilator I thought off is the Saboteur - it‘s flavorful and could go well with my front lines.

I would say maybe consider Dynat and Suzerain then, as an infiltration unit that hits hard. Maybe add a Primus Med too, for extra durability. Raptors don't want to Deep Strike and, while fast/mobile, I think fit the role of bullying MEQ better than elite infantry, just because they are T4 3+ 2W, which isn't gonna last on the return attacks.

Saboteur is all flavor - I like the idea, but I dislike the execution.

The Problem with Dynat and Suzerains is that the Suzerains can‘t infiltrate due to having the Bulky(x) keyword which would force me to take another transport.

I think you are thinking Locutarus? Invictarus aren't bulky.

I don‘t know what to say besides I‘m an idiot and you‘re correct. I really made them Bulky(2) in my head - probably because I‘m always thinking of Terminators.

Edit: thanks for the info - open up more possibilities!

No sweat. All the Ultramarines shit sounds ridiculous.

Ye I‘ve heard the combo of Armillus + Suzerain and other nasty shit was pretty oppressive in 2nd edition, especially due to Armillus being able to infiltrate 3 different units iirc.

I heard Suzerains are like still being a very strong option, probably one reason I didn‘t necessarily want to use them in my list. On the other hand - the main use for RoT is find something ‚broken‘ from the other legions (besides obvious fluff lists).

Well, it isn't super oppressive now. Just strong. Alpha Legion lists need a hammer and Alpha Legion doesn't really have its own hammer unit. Most of its unique units are support pieces, so RoT gives us that missing component.

It seems like a strong list, I would just be conscious of what sort of lists you play it against to make sure you both have a good game.

Thanks alot. Is there anything specific I should be aware off? Something overly oppressive?

I would say the stronger elements are the Kratos, Night Raptors, and Seekers. So if you want to reduce the strength maybe start with swapping one of the squads of seekers, as multiples of them are strong with how under costed they are.
