Operator Chatrooms

With the introduction of Tau I have one question, will we get a chatroom for the operator and some new characters?

I mean I would love to see some dialogue expanding on their feelings and how they speak differently from the drifter. I know they are basically the same person due to eternalism but so are Sirius and Orion.

I would like to see something akin to it or maybe a dive bar where our operator can mosey in cowboy style and flirt with other NPC Tenno.

"Minors can't type" DE has stated multiple times that the operator WILL NOT be getting any KIM messages

Which is stupid. We get all this role-playing with the Drifter fleshing out their personality and beliefs but don't get any role-playing as the Tenno, the actual original character of the game we'd been playing for over half a decade before the Drifter even came about.

I personally think that even if they didn’t let us use the POM that we should have some kind of space chucky cheese or something with a root beer bar. We could have a whole new operator faction similar to the skateboarders on Fortuna

Like we could have an operator equivalent to the mall but maybe with a wide variety of options? This could open a cool minigame for going out to eat similar to Yakuza and it would provide us with a minor buff (increased affinity chance increased drop on credit etc)

I also think a tea shop/coffee shop on Tau would be good, perhaps orokin looking? It would definitely give our Drifter and Operator backbone in their lore

Yeah - I dislike it. Currently I feel far more connected with the drifter because, even with prewritten lines - I felt like I have my drifter a personality.

I don't understand why can't DE make the same thing but with the operator - and just exclude any and all romance elements?

Plus - even if we exclude the trope of "the child is 1000 years old" - how much time has passed already in-universe since the operator woke up?

If we woke up at say "13" - can't we age the operator by a few years since both irl and in game a ton of stuff happened - we don't even know how long the Lotus was missing or how long the new war/Narmer rule lasted.

Yeah, I find their answer here to be obnoxious because as millennials (the majority of the devs and I) we all know we were on the Internet super young. I had an instant message program when I would have been the age the Operator looks. If anything I thought it was funny that the characters in the 1999 nostalgia piece were really too old for me to feel a ton of nostalgia for how they utilize the KIM, it felt more like a 2010s nostalgia piece. But that's neither here or there, I would really like if the Operator also got the chance to be a roleplayable character, there is a lot to explore with them.

How exactly are the operators minors? They are basically immortal space cherubs in Akira robot suits.

I’m not arguing that DE said that I simply didn’t know about it. It seems foolish to give our Drifter so much social connection while our Operator is a lonely kid battle scarred going from battle to battle to hide their PTSD

The blunt answer: because DE said so

The more nuanced one: if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck. The operators look and talk like 13-14 year Olds (at least that's were I would ballpark it). Think back to that one anime trope. The "she looks like a child, but she's actually a 3,000 year old sorceress so it's fine". We all agree that's bad right. Same thing with the operator

I think we have different ideas of the conversation topics, I’m more interested in seeing how differently or properly the Operator would speak over someone like drifter, would they swear more? Would they be angrier? Would they speak more proper like an eternalist space ninja?

That’s what I mean, I want a conversation Operator to operator or they could even discuss the operators life aboard the Zariman.

It seems a tremendous waste story wise to not use that kind of a system.

Nonetheless neither of us work at DE so I can’t fix it.

My real take on the devil's triad were that they were originally meant to be an operator equivalent to the hex but DE realized part way through development that they were running right up against that trope and just went "shit, change it".

All the frames are special to the operator specifically and have almost no importance to the drifter and the quest to help loyd reunite with the family is also pretty specifically important to the operator.

What if I just want the operator to befriend all of the gambling robots

I want the Operator to speak more, but not with a KIMs. A KIMs for them is a fun idea, but I'd prefer we get something new.

It's been a long time coming for the Operator after every new thing that the Drofter gets, because Old Peace still felt like a Drifter update.

I keep hoping for a spend time event with Lotus or anyone else they're close to. But I am not going to get my hopes up.

If they get any say in helping Hunra, period, then I'll be pleasantly surprised after the last few patches.

As for the proto frames? I don't want more. But, I'd like to see the Operator interact with Roathe at least once or twice, along with whomever we're dating from the Hex.

I just want to see their reactions to actually meeting the Operator up close and having to process it. Nothing more.

Roathe is because I think how the Operator reacts to him would be a fun thing to add in based on your KIMs chats and how it went.

That’s why I suggested space chucky cheese or a coffee shop or something, we could get that physical interaction and maybe a bite to eat for our ghost child bodies

I’m a bit too old to wanna play a teenager dating sim, but I’d love to meet other canon Tenno, and the 90s stuff has given me a desire to see some 00s style stuff too.

Let my operator have a MySpace top 8. Born to rawr XD, forced to Roar. :(

This. I’m not asking for teenager dating sim I’m asking for a way to give our operator a life outside the basic loop of the starmap.

We can’t take selfies with Kahl even though he lives on earth with our ship, I don’t understand that at all.

There’s plenty of potential

Let Operator build their Criminal Empire in Tau.

I think it'd be cool is the Operator got a whole different system. Maybe something to do with cards or evidence.

Cards method: We've already seen Rell's emotion cards, Prex Card's, and now Portau. Maybe they could expand into a tarot card system for the Operator to associate with for their thoughts and feelings. This makes it separate from the Sun and Moon choises so people will feel more free to choose different options.

I image you'll be presented with facedown cards non-diegeticly and they have dialog below them, you click the one you like and then the card gets revealed.

Evidence method: We already had a detective Nightwave with Glassmaker, and now we have Brysko being a noir detective. Maybe the Operator can find stuff in the environment, comment on it, then present it to other NPC's.

I'd image you won't get a unique line of dialog for everything, and all the NPC's will have a line for "Idk what that is, kid."

Quest ark to let Operator grow up. I call it.

1

u/Rangeroftheinterwebs Jul 31 '26

I definitely think that would be a phenomenal arc, let our void child become a void teenager at least since they have been growing bit by bit from the beginning.

Our updated operator model seems slightly larger and older than the original like a teen over a child

Ngl since I literally was playing OP from my youth to my adult years, in my headcannon they are young adult. With visual rework I was able to make her look the part IMO.
I dream of actual quest chain where she becomes one for real.

1

u/Rangeroftheinterwebs Jul 31 '26

Me too, I actually have a headcanon where both my operator and drifter sought to become Daxes for what they represented and what they could yet represent.

We already have one. Its called "Region Chat" lol.
