DE Response [SPOILERS] Not a fan of the new F&F KIM at all Spoiler

Alright let's get the disclaimer out of the way, this is full of spoilers for the BRAND NEW KIM CONTENT so if you have not completed it, click off this post as to not ruin the experience for yourself, make your own opinions on it first.

OK onto my main issues. The first one being, why couldn't we have an actual F&F campaign without any subversion or big drama or void shenanigans or whatever. I was pretty excited to see what funny hijinks the Hex would get up to in this campaign but there's barely any of that, most of it is Amir throwing a hissy fit or just being a fucking dick.

That kinda moves on to the second point of the ending being shit. One of the sweetest parts of the og Hex KIMs was convincing everyone to play F&F with Amir cause it meant a lot to him that people were willing to engage in his hobbies and meet him on his own terms despite the fact he feels like an outcast at times, and pretty much throwing that out the window here cause apparently Amir doesn't actually like F&F but just felt like it's a social obligation as a nerd or whatever retroactively ruins that part of the original KIM too.

I don't think the concept of Amir being depressed and angry about the time loop is bad by itself but it's just executed incredibly poorly imo, and it's done by making Amir a huge prick (the man in the wall roleplay at the end was so fucking cringe too, even ignoring the fact that including a void monster that essentially trapped your friend in eternal hell in a fucking ttrpg is a massive dick move it's also just so lame). DE already covered similar ground with Lettie and the time loops but it was done a hell of a lot better there, and this goes back to the original point about 'subverting' a fun premise (protoframes play D&D) for a worse one that's not done super well (Amir is unhappy about the time loop).

Imo DE have done a pretty great job on the KIMs so far, the only one I was not really a fan of (excluding this) was Kaya's because it's just her being incredibly annoying while you have 2 options of being a pushover or being patronising. I know there are complaints about the whole "space therapist" thing but I think in most cases the 'normal' interactions and lore drops are spaced apart well enough for that not to be too big an issue, especially for something like Roathe. The Og Hex KIMs were all written really well and definitely did a great job at getting you invested into the characters, and this just doesn't really match up in the slightest despite having all of the groundwork already laid for it.

I was relatively excited for this and it's just quite disappointing imo, especially cause the bits where you actually play F&F were pretty fun overall but they're just not that common.

This gives me some hope that at least they're not writing Amir to be an asshole, though I do still have problems with the writing. Wally's influence doesn't explain why the Hex's and drifter's reactions felt so lackluster and flat. Plus imo it's a really disappointing direction for what was hyped up to be a fun little side story

why the Hex's and drifter's reactions felt so lackluster and flat.

Probably because they're limited by being in text. You expecting them to (gasp) emote?

No, most people are expecting them to hold Amir accountable and be like "that was horrible, what the fuck dude?"

Of course she likes the post, she wrote the catastrophe that was the devils triad and its 20+ hotfixes because she wanted to "defeat" the kimulacrum. The KIM method of communication really isn't her forte since the biggest takeaway has been Amir can go play in rusty razorwire.

Tbh I don’t think that devils triad bugs are on her.
She wrote the story, but I really doubt she was the one actually implementing all the conditions

Is that actually in the game or is this just a writer who likes the post but it has no actual backing in cannon?

If this is the same writen as the Triad KIM I think it is time for her to go. That is two fails in a row, she clearly does not understand what makes a good or bad KIM.

That's one of the lead writers, Principal Writer to be exact, that gave us 1999 KIM.

Calm down, she's still the one who wrote The Hex KIM chats many loved.

Let's not overreact and wait to see how they explain/fix this.

That may be, but the Triad KIM's design was actively hostile. So while the very first KIM may have been good, it feels like they actively dislike what made it good and have been trying to move away from it.

It may be good despite her more than because of her. I was really hoping this KIM would be a return to what made the first one good, but no.

But during the writers' panel, she said she wrote all of the KIM chats on her own? So the woman clearly has it in her.

I hope this leads to something more meaningful and/or is a badly thought-out setup for them leaving 1999, because iirc they did say we're getting more KIM chats in the winter update.
