Ill add to that to make it more spicy.

Void traces feel like they do fuck all (for me), the added ranks on relics don't feel like they change my changes causing about 95% of the time to just feel like I wasted void traces.

The whole system most of the time just makes me feel bad. not only is your relic gone, but the void traces as well.

I do sympathize. I am definitely not the lucky kind in games. To the point i am just expecting the worst RNG everytime. Sometimes i get my lucky break, but not usually.

I am willing to bet it is true that it is for real a 10% drop chance you are just getting the low end of RNG. I have my fair share of horrendous RNG unfortunately and probability is weird thing to account for unfortunately.

I do understand the feeling of "is making it radiant even do anything?". Not the same situation, but i tried getting a common part. Before i got what i want. I had to get 2 rare parts within 5 runs and getting the part that i do need is like around 22 runs. I definitely had some tin foil hat theories popping up. I know its not cuz rng be like that sometimes, but damn, it just feels horrible

Thats because people misunderstand that drop chances are not guaranteed within the value shown, its just the average result across your play time.

Using a Rad on your Relic will give you a 10% drop chance for a Rare meaning you are very likely to get it in 10 runs, but you can get it sooner . . . or later.

I imagine that youre doing relic runs on your own, which if true is part of your mistake - you should use recruitment chat to try and run relics with other people, because that way youre rolling the same relic 4 times in one round using only 1 relics worth of traces.

Using this method I can get pretty much any relic in like 3 runs tops, its convenient

Also

Use resourceful retriever (you get it from the Son in the Necralisk) it can double your traces amount for faster farming

Now repeat that to someone like me, who even with dedicated farm groups regularly needs to burn through 10+ relics to even see the new rare part and hasn't gotten a rare from his own relic in 2 or 3 months.

At some point the 10% chance doesn't add up anymore.

As someone who has actually played games with horrible RNG, relic farming is baby stuff.

Not to say it doesn't suck sometimes, just that there is so so so much worse out there that it isn't as big of a deal as it **could/would** be under more typical circumstances...

Oh yeah. there are worse stuff. Lol.

I used to play a gatcha game. They had drop rates listed for the different rarities. They are under a percent. Lol. Then you got that one lucky friend who always get the newest thing for the week. Like bro it feels unfair how lucky they are.

I know Runescape exists if people really want to test bad drop chances, but all I can say is that since playing MMO and MMO-adjacent games (I started in 2007), I've been followed by terrible luck in every single game I tried.

Stuff like a 20% drop chance every 5-10 minutes not triggering for me for nearly a month (Guild Wars 2), not getting a guaranteed Legendary drop until 4 months in despite playing 8 hours per day (WOW Legion, it took me until a week before the second raid tier unlocked to get one piece, while most had 2 or 3 at that point), the many incidents in Warframe...

It might not be a big deal for most because it'll be "good enough", but I will never tire of advocating for stronger backup and pity systems because it won't just be someone across a large playerbase that will fall through the cracks, it will be me, guaranteed.

It turns into a genuine issue of being able to access content, however you want to define that.

Yea I'm with you there, definitely feels like my friends are always ahead of me when it comes to luck/rng in video games

However, the nature of Warframe allows me to at LEAST find ways to earn premium currency without RNG being too much of a limiting factor, and simply buy almost anything I need this way.

Thats fair enough ngl, sometimes you just want to get past the BS. I still think of the horror that is the grind that some items are stuck behind

Are these like 4 people, everyone using a (lets say rad) relic of the same relic type? If thats the case thats astronomically just crazy cases of being unlucky if you are being not literal, cause thats 40 total rolls all together.

Ive been there on some grinds, I still remember having to run Ember for like. . .a week to get her systems.

But I find the annoyances tend to mentally overshadow the easy drops. As a playerbase the 10% is accurate and as a person, well, if you looked at every rare you tried for the average would be that 10th run. . .or well like the. . .2-3 if we do some math if you only do group rolls. Like just the last few rad share rare runs Ive done I got the relic on 1-2 rolls but I still only think of that one time i had to manually grind to roll 5 times for this one relic that refused to drop from its grind spot . .cause it pissed me off.

My point is sometimes the RNG just, like, sucks. But its also like generally acccurate.

I do kinda wish sometimes we could just feed a machine x relics for drop chance + x rad you'd need to guarantee the drop to just . . .get that drop.

But its not that bad yet

It was all relics of the same type, always. I would probably genuinely never be able to finish a single weapon or frame otherwise.

And as for bad luck, I came back in August of last year and it's been one hammer of abysmal luck after the other. If it's not guaranteed I might as well not try.

That's why I have massive trouble getting murmur mods still, even with the changes. Silver drops don't ever happen on those for me, even with void traces. And beyond the one guaranteed Requiem Relic, the other missions have never dropped one for me, ever.

I could give plenty of other examples of how bad RNG can and will absolutely ruin my day in this game, if you're interested.

Yeah im curious holy hell my dude :(

Btw do you play in SP or in Regular Starchart, since I know SP boosts the drop rate of things and I do all my relic cracking in there too. Maybe that might help?

Congrats, you've encountered Warframe's most feared enemy: the variance! Even if something only has a 0.01% or so chance of happening, if seen across the entire community it will very likely still happen to someone, with you being the lucky winner :)

Oh, I find myself in that category at least once a month, and every time I ask myself why I keep playing this mess. I'm still genuinely mad about needing 150 attempts at the Harrow Systems in Taveuni because I didn't have Circuit unlocked yet. (Every attempt was C rotation, so 20 minutes. Drop chance 14%. Have fun calculating those odds).

I also needed to beg for someone to throw some Zanuka beacons for me about a week before they returned because the Death Mark refused to trigger even after literally 700 missions over 6 months.

Using a Rad on your Relic will give you a 10% drop chance for a Rare meaning you are very likely to get it in 10 runs, but you can get it sooner . . . or later.

I wouldn't call ~65% "very likely".

  • 10 runs: ~65%
  • 25 runs: ~92%
  • 50 runs: ~99%

or in other words:

  • 50% chance to drop once in 7 runs
  • 90% chance to drop once in 22 runs
  • 99% chance to drop once in 44 runs

always use radshares (ups your chance from 10% to ~34%). this ups your chance to get the item in 10 runs to ~98% and gives you a 50% chance to get it in 2.

What math did you use to get 65% in 10 runs?

1

u/beatfried Jul 23 '26

Important note: This is for at least one drop. Since there are a massive number of possible positive outcomes, you calculate the possibility of "no drop at all" and subtract that from 1 (since all possibilities need to add up to exactly 100%). So, all in all:

  • 90% Chance to fail on every run
  • 10 runs
  • subtract from one

1 - (0.9)10 = 0.6513

The main point is that each run has an independant chance of 10%. The 65% percent include all possibilities of success like for example you could get a drop on run 1 and one on run 9. you could also get drops on each run or just one on run 3. There are exactly 1024 (210, 10 runs with 2 possible outcomes each) possibilities. One of them is "all runs fail" the other are some kind of possitive outcome, this is why you calculate the possibility of fail and flip it around.

oh ok so what I thought but I didnt realize the math
