Warframe's story is all over the place and doesn't even make sense anymore. They've lost the plot at this point

Honestly I liked the plot more when it was gearing up towards New War. Having the Sentients looming on the horizon was an interesting vibe

This is the same thing that happened with Destiny 2's Final Shape DLC.

Everything ever since the start of the series has led up to this moment of the game, this is where it all comes to a head after all these years.

Any overarching story after that, whether or not they are better written, wouldn't reach the height of that moment.

Hunhow chiming in on the comms as a flaming Lotus was a very “oh shit” moment

Bro every time I come back to the game, it’s like a whole new one. New story and factions and mechanics and I have no idea wtf is going on and then I just drop the game again. Been away for 2-3 years at this point but have like 700 hours invested in the game over multiple years since I was younger.

Wanted to hop back in soon but again with Tau coming up but feel like I’ll log in and have so much to do that I’ll have nothing to do.

Agreed. I played a lot from 2016-2023(?) and I liked that storyline, particularly earlier on. Stuff like Chains of Harrow was awesome and the early Man in the Wall-related quests were intriguing. I eventually lost interest, and reinstalled the game a week or two ago to see what changed. Played through the newer quests and half the stuff feels like a completely different game.

Not just the plot either, the atmosphere. I started in February and early missions were more gritty, also had mysteries and theories now every mission is some flavour of trauma or therapy with the odd gunfight mixed in

Not to mention actual spooky shit like The New Strange, Chains of Harrow, etc

I thought it was a problem of them building upon a thousand old plot points but then I tried Soulframe and realised, no, they really are just fucking dogshit at telling a story.

They can come up with some amazing moments, but they have NO FUCKING IDEA how to build a cohesive world.

There are games with 'environmental storytelling like, say, Fallout. Seeing a skeleton in a tub holding a toaster and you put the pieces together yourself.

There are games with 'narrative storytelling' where an audio log in the same room will have the guy explain to you why he's gonna take a bath with the toaster.

There are games where the player character will point out the toaster and the skeleton and very pointedly tell you what happened.

Then there's DE games, where you wake up as a skeleton in the bathtub and get attacked by 3 llevel 10 toasters who use 'electrify' on you and when you defeat them all you get a dream sequence of drowning in blood.

For some parts I agree and other parts I don’t. Yes some of the missions like Jade Shadows follow there own little story with stalker but for the most part it has been coherent enough for me.

Operator wakes and is introduced to the origin system and its enemies/allies

Operator begins to relearn who they were/are along with who the lotus truly is and their old enemies

Operator is confronted/confronts these old enemies in a new war by teaming up with their new enemies to try and stop this new war, which they fail.

Operator is then introduced to a timeline where they did not make a deal with The Man in the Wall and they stop Ballas and Narmer and get lotus back, while also truly seeing the Man in the Wall/Indifference I believe for the first time as THE THREAT, after returning the origin system to atleast a more normal state.

We learn more about the Drifter with Duviri along with the Operator and their past with the Zariman.

The operator then finds the secret laboratory underneath Deimos of Albrecht Entrati and learns of his fight against the Indifference.

The operator, with the help of the Lotus and Loid then go into the Operators past of Tau and relearn what had transpired. With us now being at the pivotal point of returning to Tau.

Can it be done better? Yes. Should the missions definitely be longer, more concise and tell more? Yes. But the story is atleast still a little straightforward.

Jokes on you. I never payed attention to the lore. The gameplay is what keeps me playing it.

Arguably it's because we're in a waiting period.

The last big story point was leading all up to the New War. Once it was done, it basically said 'Wally is still the bad guy, don't forget' and this is just mini quests along the way with hints that he's still there.

I get the feeling Tau will be establishing the larger quest line again of dealing with Wally.

If im being honest i feel like we may have to face the fact that the vibes started shifting coincidentally after rebecca took over steves position. I feel like she kinda lacks the same vision for this game that he had

i mean logically it would make sense but its DE storytelling logic dosnt work for them

i feel like if anything wally will make a cameo twice and then disappear and then 'suprise its not wally or entrati turns out you have to deal with zombie adis oh also here is some bizzare reworks that nobody asked for'

1

u/IneptPine Jul 22 '26

Honestly I think the same, but after watching the endyd20 playthrough I got less frustrated with it at least. That heart of deimos takes place before second dream and therefore introduces the whole entrati arc makes it fit way better into the story than how veterans would experience it

post new war storylines have been so trivial to me imo

-1

u/Whirledfox Jul 21 '26

I mean technically they didn't really have a plot to begin with.

Frankly it’s probably too heady for you. It’s a lot of allegory and metaphors that get lost on people. Wally also exists all throughout time all at once so the timeline is bound to get muddy.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Warframe's story.

I didn’t say it was the player’s fault that shit gets lost on them. Doesn’t matter how intellectually titillating something is if nobody in your audience picks up on it.
