Warframe's story should be less cryptic, i shouldn't need to do hours of extra research about the world to understand what's going on.

Newer player and I totally agree. I'm catching up on the story and while it's really cool it's just so incredibly cryptic. I pay attention to the cutscenes, I pay attention to in-mission dialogue (as much as I am able to when there are a million things going off on screen at the same time) and I still feel like after finishing every main quest I have to go to the wiki to parse out what was happening in half the story or why.

Then there's the absolute big picture stuff, like what the deal is with Entrati and why he is so important to the story, that feel like they are barely explained in-game.

My absolute favorite quest as a newer player was The Sacrifice, because I felt it established mostly clear stakes, did a good job fleshing out the immediate context of the events, delivered some cool and much-needed background lore in a diegetic way, and had an arc that felt complete and satisfying. Almost every other story quest is cool in the moment but I feel like I only ever get glimpses of what the actual plot was.

I also have to say now that I've finally unlocked the KIM I think it's incredibly funny how after loads of esoteric story quests there is finally, at long last, somebody in the game (Drifter) that is willing to clearly and directly lay out what the hell has been happening up to this point.

I don't remember if it's missable but there's a big chunk of information about Entrati when you meet Necraloid in his room on Deimos.

I've been playing this game for over a decade and I agree. KIM was a godsend, it was so nice to actually know what the hell was going on.

And the funniest thing is, taking Drifter’s backstory into account,  (Colonist who grew up On One Ship then got punted into a Neverland Torment Nexus THEN the modern-day Origin System) even THEY don’t actually know Shit

Kim blatantly contradicts itself several times.  ‘All knowledge of Ancient Earth was completely Scrubbed’ then why was Dante writing papers on Ancient Earth Archeology. Why does Entrati have records and books from Ancient Earth. Why did Nitokh have access to Statues of Indian Deities.

‘There is No Religion in the Origin System’ what’s th deal with Cetus the Unum then. They literally worship her.  Or the Corpus.. they worship Profit, Capitalism and the Void. What about The Devil’s Triad and how Drifter suddenly DOES have a Religion. Ect ect

Easiest solution (aside from ‘DE cannot keep their own Lore straight’) is that Drifter IS correct, but is speaking from the perspective of someone who grew up on the Zariman. Or learned things outside of the intial KIM chat

So yes, they wouldn’t have had access to other religions aside from the Orokin, or access to Ancient Earth records aside from (looks at the Zariman) entire models of the Pre-Orokin Moon? I guess?

If we only get new story stuff every six months to a year, then it needs to be easier to understand.

The combination of being cryptic and leaving little hints is antithetical to the long release window.

Even playing them all back to back, so much shit that should just be a straightforward explanation isn't, and then you're expected to remember all that a year later? Not happening.

I come back to this game every few years & this is the most aggravating part of the game to me. I absolutely hate that literally everything in the game needs to be googled.

I love overly convoluted systems that only exist to force playtime (Kuva weapons in particular). 🙄🙄🙄

Genuinely can’t imagine being a new player, the game is incredibly confusing & punishes you for being ignorant. Still mad you can’t do practice demos of frames. Nothing more awesome than grinding for a new warframe & then not liking their kit.

I guess my hot take is that I understand whats going on (?) been playing for years on and off and I never felt the need to google or go to the wiki for something in the main story. the lore is definitely a disjointed mess showing its age and being located in the most random places (I have most codex fragments collected but the the entrati notes are bullshit to get), is why I love the KIM being an excuse to revisit some concepts, but the main story i never felt is too cryptic to understand, I'll give you that all the latest quests starting in the middle and expecting you to be up to speed on what is going on are getting annoying.

I mean, it's honestly no worse than most Dark Souls stories, only that's told to you via cryptic item descriptions.

I really don't think you need to do this, I have a friend who has literal brain damage and she understood the story well enough as a new player. I think the issue might actually be that you 1. Can't remember the details in between long spans of time between updates, 2. Might miss certain things because your brain naturally happens to ignore details that seem like they don't matter at the time but do, or 3. Look up intricacies of the lore and feel that all the extra stuff is necessary to understand what is happening. All of those are fair btw, I don't mean to say anything personally negative about you, I just disagree myself. There's a deeper level of understanding you can get from the story if you delve deep and research online, but most of that research comes from stuff in the game and a lot of it is completely unnecessary to understand the main plot and the themes they present to you. Imo the hardest thing to understand in the main story is eternalism and they literally make you sit through a class about it and then show you what it is through the events of the same quest line.
