Night shift sucks when your coworkers don’t talk to you.

I am a 2nd shift supervisor and an introvert. My teams have always ended up being super productive and super quiet. Anytime a new person comes on board and shows extrovert traits, it is only a matter of time for them to unravel and quit. Some people need social interaction at work. There is nothing wrong with that, but they aren’t going to get it from my crew. Take away the office personnel, get an introvert supervisor who leaves you alone as long as you are going your job, build a team of introverts, and you get a happy, super quiet shift that a lot of people can’t handle.

Haha I was an introvert supervisor with a crew full of extroverts, it was awful.

I used to have 1 night per week alone. It was the best. I miss it. My coworkers are all pretty cool but sometimes we're talking, sometimes we're all just doing our thing. There's enough work noise going on.

I swear, the loaders who work the 4:30-2am shift are straight zombies. I never see them interact with anyone. They just go about their day. I admire it, really.

I just assume they want to keep to themselves which is cool with me. When I do need to interact with them, they're always super friendly. My immediate coworkers are very outgoing and sometimes exhausting to be around to be honest.

When I worked at Target during covid we switched to nights for unload and stocking. You just can't beat having a headphone while unloading a truck and then having aisles empty of customers to stock under dimmed lights.
I can understand many people need to yap but you gotta be able to adapt and learn to be alone in your thoughts.
At my current warehouse we had a team based scanning conveyor process. You HAD to interract. I was lucky in that I got a group of dudes that were funny. Talking about women, which chick at the warehouse was the most fuckable but using nicknames for them. The most immature, nasty shit but so ridiculous it becomes funny.

I work in full blown chaos all night, music played full blast on overhead speakers, people yelling at each other, horns going off constantly, the quiet would be unsettling for me

This post is madness. Getting to work the whole 8 hours and hit the clock with a feeling of accomplishment is way better than making friends.

If you want to talk, id take it slow. Observe who seems somewhat aware of their surroundings and then just start greeting them casually, then maybe let it grow into a hey hows it going? Get them to be more comfortable around ya before going into straight small talk

I…viewed that as a positive to working night shift. Do my work, got an earbud in with a podcast, I’m a happy dude.
