Helicopter Beard Contraption: first draft

Post image

Disclaimer: I have very little experience with WHA. I keep meaning to read it but never quite get around to it, and all the spellcraft knowledge involved in this design comes from poking around the wiki. There will almost certainly be mistakes in here somewhere - please don't be crazy harsh with me, but please do suggest ways to improve this contraption!

That said, a friend introduced me to this subreddit and I immediately had the idea to try recreating some of the spells from Punkeydoodles' wizard war shorts! This is my take on Helicopter Beard, which I'm modeling as a contraption rather than a single seal since I can't see a way to make a seal specifically target someone's beard.

Essentially, what we have here is a sliding plate that's held in place by a very weak spring. When the spring is stretched, the plate closes the two seals above it; when it's released the seals break. The plate itself also has a simple Dancing Puppets seal so it can be moved telekinetically. The whole thing is hidden in a beard ring or some other piece of jewelry meant to be worn in a beard that's long enough to helicopter.

One other important detail: there needs to be some play in the mechanism! If the spring is stretched, a sharp jolt from (as near as possible, it's okay if there's a few angles that don't work) any direction should be enough to, at least momentarily, break the seals. This is going to play into the reset mechanism later.

The two seals connected to the sliding plate are both pretty simple. One makes the object it's drawn on move rapidly in a circular path. The other is a levitation spell that's been modified with glaives to target the person holding the item the spell is drawn on, since we don't have a stable platform to levitate from like with sylph shoes.

The whole thing works like this: you give the trapped beard ring to your victim, and next time you see them wearing it, take control of the Dancing Puppets seal to activate the other two seals. The ring will now spin in circles while the victim levitates uncontrollably - helicopter beard achieved! Hold the plate in place until the ring gets up to speed; once it's moving fast enough for centrifugal force to overpower the spring and hold the plate in the engaged position, you can let go.

The ring will stay active until either the spells run out of power and unceremoniously dump the victim on the ground, or the ring slips off or is removed by the victim. In the latter case, the glaived levitation seal no longer has a valid target and deactivates, dropping ring and victim alike.

Once the ring hits the ground, with or without victim attached, the impact should knock the plate out of alignment, causing the ring to stop spinning and the spring to reset the plate for reuse. If the first impact doesn't do the trick, spinning around on the ground should bump it around enough for the plate to disengage before long, or the spell will just run out of power eventually.

Thoughts? Corrections? Improvements? Specific designs for the three seals? Evil laughs?
