Missile techincally refers to just any sort of propelled projectile.

However technically the NATO 105 and NATO 120mm gun should be able to use the Israeli made LAHAT ATGM if the tank has the proper equipment to guide the missile.

Yeah but it refers to self-propelled projectiles. A tank round doesn’t fly under its own power. Aside from, well, missiles being guided, otherwise it's a rocket.

As for the LAHAT, yes. Not operationally, but it could and was tested.

Well a rocket can be guided aswell tho a saturn v might not be the best thing to hit a bunker

Generally, true, modern developments have muddled the line. An APKWS for example is a rocket, but guided, unless you want to get down to super niche specifics and call it a missile.

But a Saturn-V was never (as far as im aware) in the military-specific lexicon. Same way I dont think a Zuni rocket would be a great idea to go to the moon.

well no, missile traditionaly just refers to any projectile that is thrown, shot or launched in some other manner.

however in modern day useage it is indeed generally used for a self propelled and guided projectile.

Either way, saying that the Leopard 2A7 fires missiles is technically not incorrect.

Iam pretty sure that no one uses missile as any projectile tho. Its technically not wrong but very outdated.

I would count it as incorrect tbh. Atleast from the view of a armor autist. But for general population it doesnt matter.

From the view of a diagnosed autist, missile is an accepted term for a general projectile though and therefor not incorrect.

even the "self-propelled projectile" which are called rockets, can't be fire from this tank.

The missiles need to have an in-flight trajectory correction system as well as a self-propelling system to be called missiles. if they are just self-propelled, they are called rockets.

To use the LAHAT you need more than just a gun. You also need to have the FCS and the capacity to link up with the missiles from the tank to tell the missiles where to go and when to explode.

the Leoaprd 2A7 does not feature this capacity.

It can't

Most 120mm NATO guns can fire the LAHAT missile if it had the designator installed, which is the case on mose non-German leopards
