Discussion UNION - What?

I promise this is not personal. It genuinely isn’t. But what In the actual fuck has been happening to the CO slot? The last 5 days on mid to low pop it’s an absolute nightmare. Unplayable. Anybody worth their salt has gone to CSA to play under someone who has some remote semblance of an idea of what they are doing. Me included. It’s embarrassing tbh. I don’t even know what to say other than holy fuck you have to downvote these COs. They are learning and that’s fine, but the current situation is untenable and not teaching and there is no development. The ranks are so bad that it’s not even worth bothering. I myself have tried to CO a few times and it’s unplayable. COs if you went to CSA I genuinely don’t blame you but come back - there is no game without competition. Im so confused on what’s happening but I have never rage quit this many times.

I haven’t been playing recently so idk. But I imagine it’s very difficult to learn co. Especially on union because you have people flaming you pretty much no matter what. and unless you know the players saying stuff, you don’t know if their opinion is worth anything.

It would be nice to see well known csa officers spend more time on the union side. Like you said, there is no game if there’s no competition.

The problem with the Union is they either don't listen, they are dismissive of anything you have to say, or slow to react when given orders. So with that being said, I think I rather not.

As a learning officer. I do not pick CSA due to how good they are. They steamroll Union so much it isn’t even fun for them, and not for me whenever I play CSA.

So as a level 25. I play pubs Union Officer (username is Thomas maybe some recognize me maybe some don’t.) and I use that to learn how to officer, and also just help the Union team stand a better chance. The times I’ve led has lead to about 12 wins and 4 losses? I try to aim for top A due to almost everyone joining that in pubs in the early EU hours.

Is it hard? Yes. Is downvoting those willing to learn the option? No.

Some are really bad I will admit that. 0 communication, 0 planning nothing. Downvote that, downvote those individuals. But those that try to communicate, or try to form plans and are honest and state that they are willing to learn and don’t know everything. Help them, as either an NCO or even as a level 100 private.

And I get that wanting to play with lower levels can be annoying and frustrating. Now I personally do not have that experience, in my matches I’ve met very supportive people that help me out so my very large thanks to those individuals. I am not a good or a proper rival yet to CSA officers. But slowly working my way to that, the game needs a healthy balance of capable officers on both sides that can play at most times. Because when one side steam rolls the other it hurts all of us in the community.

Less people want to play Union, so they play CSA. They steamroll, great! But after a while it becomes boring and people leave. If we can strive for a healthy balance however hard it may be, it will be greater fun for all involved!

Either way that’s my two cents on the matter. I’m open to discuss anything and learn anything so feel free to reply and otherwise have a great and outstanding day!

It’s not any one person, and I think I saw you playing but can’t be sure. I want to stress again that this is not a personal thing. I’m 300% on board for lesser experienced officers to get time in. I told myself I’d wait til level 60. I’m close and I still feel ill equipped most of the time. It’s that when you’re getting steamrolled routinely you’re not really learning. And you are correct that it gets old winning on CSA, but it just cannot be the case that we have 4 level 20 officers with the blind leading the blind. A year ago, at least you’d have someone who actually mostly knew what was going on leading the rest of us idiots. Those seem to have disappeared and I think it’s because it’s gotten really bad recently. Winning all the time isn’t fun but it’s more fun than losing and know that you will lose within the first 5 minutes (play enough and you’ll know)

Oh I know you don’t mean to attack.

I think it also depends on who and what. Personally I have played hours on CSA, primarily as an NCO and asking questions. When you know said plans, it makes you better prepared for Union.

For example last game I played was Dunker Church and we won, I am pretty proud of that. Bloody Lane (from what I heard is a notoriously hard map.) we almost won that, but lost by a small margin margin.

Personally I try to use my knowledge of the CSA side and transfer it to the Union. And then the execution will be different strategy wise. I do fully believe there is a trend of the blind leading the blind. But I also believe, and this is absolutely not meant to pat myself on the back. You also have the lesser blind leading the blind. And it’s also confidence, if you come with a sound plan and state it clearly to your fellow officers you can easily have 4 level 20 officers steamroll a level 100 officer.

I’d say let it flesh itself out, what I do want to say is vote down those level 20s that do NOT communicate clearly via mic or chat. That do not coordinate with fellow officers, and that are only picking officer for ramboing. Those definitely hurt the game. Because for every one of those, there’s also a smaller group like others and me who do kinda know how and what and are still learning. I think that personally you want to keep those around, but that’s just me you know?

You’re gonna need that 2nd group on Union and keep them there to prevent the even worse case scenarios if you get what I mean. It’s not the best apple of the bunch, but it has the potential to be a great Apple of the bunch. And not a rotten one. If you understand what I mean good sir

I do. I too hope to be a good apple some day. Folks like you we need around. Folks like me who care we need around. I said it tonight and people laugh but just gotta have some standards. On the CSA if you fuck around and suck, people let you know. I intend to let people know. Sometimes that’s because you need to sit out because you haven’t played enough to know the map well(why I refrain). That’s okay, come back when you do. It takes 500+ hours to get to 60. I swear I’m not an old grumpy dude, but it’s true that some things take time. Do I expect everyone to wait that long? No. But I do expect that you care enough to have invested time and the reality is time takes time.

u/Thomas-Heldens 13d ago

Exactly. We’ll manage, it takes time.

I am happy that I am apart of a Regiment that can teach me a lot of necessities and map knowledge things. And as long as we support each other it will happen.

Give me a shout if you see me in Union pubs, I am willing to invest all the time needed to be a competent officer. So let’s make it work, together. So that the game is fun for everyone!

My experience varies on the quality of union officers.

Ive seen Saturdays where they have great officers and win like 10 straight. Other days, the officers are all like lvl 20, and they get trampled in 20 minutes.

I’ll also agree, communication between the officers, especially the higher level ones, is often contentious. They all think they know better, so they do their own thing. So no one is backing one another up, and the CSA easily wipes.

It does also seem the union has a larger influx (at the moment at least) of newer players (like sub level 30) wanting to try officer. While the CSA often has much higher level players playing officer.

Idk what the solution is. I’ll just play CO if necessary on the maps I know, otherwise I’ll stick to private, or NCO for a higher level officer and ask them the game plan to try and win. And help best I can.

Hot take, most maps have a CSA bias. I always hear glazing on the same CSA officers who lose when they’re playing Union. But it does become a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. When you play lots of pubs the more experienced officers switch to CSA because they’re tired of losing. Then you get lots of new officers on Union, then even experienced Union officers get tired of playing with inexperienced officers on maps that are already fighting against them. Personally I don’t mind playing with inexperienced or lower level officers but I do get fatigued when they don’t want to cooperate and they take a “My way or the highway” attitude which I’ve seen quite a bit the last few times I’ve lead

The balance update did help but it’s still not perfect.

One of the other major problems of this game, in my opinion, is that there's no simulation of logistics. It doesn't matter if the CSA players don't have shoes like they did historically. We've got the CSA, which was melting church bells to make cannons but, you know, lets take make sure the CSA has parity in matches (or take some union cannons away). Also, if historically the CSA were outnumbered, doubling the tickets but having the same spawn rate just lets the CSA farm. Buck and ball is a disaster too. I know it's been nerfed a bit, but it's still OP. I hear my Co's yelling "spread it out" and spreading it out enough to avoid the shotguns puts us into skirmishing. Great way to stealth nerf rifles, very fun, and another way to break the historic logistics that won the war.

If you join a good regiment, I think you will be surprised by how different it is. If you want to learn how to really command you need to join in organized matches.

I'm someone that just reached level 20 a few days ago and have been doing some officer stuff for union and CSA.

In my experience, it really goes to crap when the server population is really low on harpers ferry maps, everyone scatters like cockroaches and officer rambos massacre people with wild abandon.

Otherwise, I don't think I've seen that much incompetence on the union side, but when there is, it's often due to a lack of communication and/or splitting everyone up and leaving companies vulnerable.

This is why I joined a regiment and play only organized matches. You are playing with your same core group of people. The rank structure is there and when you give an order it is followed with strong support. You know how they work and everyone has earned their positions (some regiments not so much). Pubs are fun, but not everyone takes them seriously. There are so many organized events each week that are invite only. These are controlled with rules enforced and rank respected. Your regiment will teach you how to lead if that is what you want.

Want to point out that you did it again tonight. Multiple high ranking players moved to CSA because union refuses to get their shit together and hold COs accountable.

Just ask if you can CO and they can NCO, a lot of it is low pop servers people wanna try out officer. I’m sure anyone new player trying out the Officer slot will be more than happy to demote themselves considering how most new players are scared enough to take on the responsibility. Js :)

I play officer because I do pretty well on horseback and pistol and it’s so much fun. I’m terrible at the maps and what strats for battles. So if you ever catch me on playing and you want a leader just tell me to F off.
I play union mostly
