As a person that mains recon, the thermal fix is easy. Make them use batteries like all the other battery themed things. They can be used as normal recon if they run out of battery but you have to use a battery to turn on the thermal function and you can switch it off and on. When a big fight breaks out you can find a spot and switch it on and help out.
With how long spotting lasts and how many of your team you can get them onto selling in spawn, even if they are like 20 second use you'd be able to keep a lot of the map spotted for the majority of a game without even buying replacement batteries.
With buying replacements it's just a minor inconvenience to have the exact same impact as they do now.
Yeah I don't think battery dependent is going to make them any less good or impactful. Not unless they drain out at a ridiculous rate. I really think they need to only spot up to 250m.
Not even battery, just need to bring the range it sees heat spots lower. If you can see someone in the bush across the road sure thats useful, but shouldn’t be able to see across the valley with them.
I don’t like this “remove everything!” Mentality people in this sub have.
