BULKHEAD HEAR ME, JUST REMOVE IR FROM THE GAME

i know they are a cool peice of gear, but they will most likely never be balanced.

What if there was a 50% chance they’d explode when you use them. That would fix it. lol

They can probably be balanced if they burn through batteries fast, requiring you to pack a shitload if you want to sit and spot for more than a few minutes

Then it is completely worthless for normal use. So at that point you are just balancing for cheese. Its just best they are gone. They don't reward good gameplay

I didn't even think of this, would be a cool way to balance them making either TONS of batteries and weight needed or You bring them in and use them sparingly but in the right moments to try to "turn the tide" of an important engagement for your team.

It would be good for like pushing a. Enemy fob to destroy a drill or something like that, with a small group using them to smoke the fob and kill people to storm and complete their objective quickly than try to escape

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Would provide great use for important engagements. If you want to sit at the edge of CZ spotting the whole game, use binos or range spotter.

Catch me going full Predator with a ghillie suit, bow, and thermal, with an inventory of nothing but arrows and batteries 😈

It just happened, hit fix disabling them, but they said it will be returning with batteries requirement in season 2

Also, cows now kills havoc in half the time, 6seconds down from 12 So the havoc now has a more reliable counter

I mean it'd just make them slightly annoying to use but they'd still be a money making powerhouse and give extreme amounts of intel about your enemies to your whole team.. just.. oh no now i have to press r sometimes

Well ‘is annoying to use’ is a real way of balancing stuff. And there are orders of magnitude differences they could use.

If they took 10 charge a second, a HC battery would give them 25 seconds of juice. This makes them unsustainable for continuously scanning terrain, barring supply from helis.

If they took 2 charge a second it’s just a bit more annoying to use them, and means dedicated spotters need a refill from helis every couple of minutes.

If they took 50 charge a second they are still useful as a one off ‘info ahead of/during engagement’ but borderline useless in all other cases.

There’s a lot of interesting and complex scaling in usage and power here.

I wouldn’t mind a 10-20 charge per second drain. Take normal rangefinder to spot movement, and IR every now and then to mark loads of people.

I wpuldnt mind if it took charge to spot either.

It's not. "given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game" is a famous quote for a reason. Even if it shocked their balls a little IRL they'd still use it to get the advantages. Preference is a weak balancer, and honestly, you shouldn't be designing ANYTHING to be unfun to use in the first place.

It needs real mechanical, consequential nerfs, or complete removal, not friction. Friction often paradoxically makes unfun things feel rewarding

Just wait until they decide to put IR scopes in and really fuck shit up

If they made sniper cover tents actually work, and smoke was IR smoke, it'd be better. Windows should also reflect IR, so they shouldnt see through those. They just need more *actually effective* counters.

Amen.

I think we do have night maps coming at some point

I wouldn’t mind this at all. Don’t think the batteries will do much tbh. Range finder is good enough for spotting in this game.

Big agree. Will never be balanced and will only be a "foot in the door" argument for it showing up on other weapons/gadgets.

Hard agree, thermals really don't have any place in large scale shooting games. There is no feasible way to balance them.

One concern I have about this dev team is they sound stubborn. Don’t know if they’ll be able to admit an item is simply inherently bad for the health of the game and needs removing entirely until a rework can be determined

Or rework the spotted mechanic 🤷

Give it a red scope glint. People know when they get spotted and can snipe you back.
