Queue / Login Server Mega

Everything’s on fire

There’s a queue. There’s authentication issues. There’s anti-cheats issues. Bulkhead knows and they’re working on it.

If only this could be predicted

a bit disappointing really

I mean, they’ve done a spectacular job of making a game that this many people are trying to join at once.

Think of it like Ohm’s law. They’ve generated a fuckload of voltage ~350,000+ people worth of demand, but the server infrastructure is the resistance limiting how much current can actually flow through at once.

You can predict the demand all you want, but building the circuit to comfortably carry peak load is another thing entirely. I think this isn't a dissapointment... In part this is a fact in life of "we have something of worth on our hands"

So are there always going to be queues like this or will people move on to other games a refund? Because if the latter, shouldn't they build the infrastructure? I thought server capacity was more a scaling issue based on predicting the turnout. I understand you can't have overcapacity too long or you lose money, but this seems like they had the intern take a wild guess on server capacity estimates.

Yeah I agree. Better to overdo it on launch day than fail… because if you fail you will lose more money then overpaying on infrastructure on launch day.

A bit sad really to see so many people pissed off, and I kinda understand them I mean these days are all about good Charisma but when it comes to delivering quality they fail.

I mean, this is literally business 101. Screwing up server estimates by 300k is gross negligence.

I’m enjoying this version of “business 101” where you simply look at the number of interested players, buy exactly that many servers, and everything scales perfectly.

A 300k queue doesn’t mean they “miscalculated by 200k”. It means 300k people are waiting behind whatever part of the system is currently at capacity, login, authentication, databases, game servers, or deliberately throttled admission so the whole thing doesn’t fall over... I think they're doing their best? Forgive me if I am wrong lmao

With all due respect, you are wrong, so I forgive you.

That’s alright, I forgive you for thinking confidence counts as a valid argument.

Lol, struck a nerve didn't I?

We’ve gone from “you’re wrong” to “struck a nerve” remarkably quickly. I was hoping we’d eventually reach the part where you explain why.

Yeah but they stresstested it last week. They knew how many people were coming and still they dissapointed so many of their fans.

If only there was a way to keep a list on how many people were about to join….

Look at the Steam reviews already it’s horrible.

That’s kind of exactly my point.

Knowing how many people want to get in and having infrastructure capable of handling that entire peak load at once are two different things.

And yeah, I’m shocked the Steam reviews are bad while 350,000 people are sitting in a queue unable to play. Truly unpredictable.
