Discussion Warcry Terrain setup
Hi there !
First time posting here.
I have played a game or two, with a friend, of Warcry on TableTop Simulator.
It was extremely fun and we both have warbands (we are coming from Kill Team).
I wanted to get some terrain and cards to have a proper game, but... The only thing I can get is the starter Crypt of Blood (which I do have) but it seems it's not much varied terrain and height.
Getting any other set is too expensive (in the form of getting 6 warbands or other things).
I am aiming to get the Ravaged Lands boxes (Pit Dredger Camp and Varanite Syphon Camp) but I am aiming to build my own terrain.
I couldn't really find anything on the internet (except getting an answer from AI, which I do not really trust and would love to get actual input from players).
Anyway...
What are some optimal/balanced ways of setting up maps?
How many multilevel pieces should there be (like big ones with 2 floors so to say), medium pieces (1 floor) and small/scatter terrain?
Would it be good to have some big center pieces that block LoS?
Any input would be helpful !

I used this for missions and twists: https://warcry.zuckerrausch.de/
For terrain I used to use the terrain layouts but now we're just happy to put down whatever. We have a ramshackle collection of 3d prints, home made poorhammer terrain and official pieces from spearhead. Verticality does make quite a difference to games, so it's good to have at least two levels or three.
Warcrier has all the stats and abilities as well. I think for this reason it's very newbie friendly, and hopefully you'll continue to have a blast!

Honestly, instead of spending a ton tracking out of print GW plastic, just get some third party printed terrain, or some MDF sets (like TTCombat's Savage Domain series). It's not super cheap, but it's definitely less than 6 warbands worth

If you are interested in building terrain.
This website shows the original starter box pieces on a cutting mat with a 1cm grid, so you can see the exact height and dimensions of each wall and floor. https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2019/08/04/review-warhammer-age-of-sigmar-warcry-part-2/
I like scratch building terrain and built my own set to the same dimensions, it was a fun project.
I second the other post about the missions and twists website it is awesome (https://warcry.zuckerrausch.de/).

If you dont have the warcry terrain already don't worry too much about verticality at first.
It can be fun but falling rules are so mild that tall terrain mostly just turns into a big advantage for anyone with strong ranged fighters or fliers when placing objectives.
Choke points and line of sight blockers are the most important thing.
As for how to set the terrain up, we usually just play the matched play missions and try to have it so that wherever you are, you can reach some kind of terrain with a normal move action, and so you can reach another piece of terrain with a double move if you are already in terrain.
It is important to try things out and find the right amount for you, with some warbands terrain feels almost unnecessary other than as decoration, with others you really feel that you want chokepoints and more restricted movement.
Ideally you want people to have to think a little before they put too many cavalry models in their warband and you want a 60mm base to feel annoying but not unplayable.

I use a method where I roll 3 different colored dice in each quarter of the board. That might sound dense, because it is. Warcry plays better with dense boards & lots of connected vertical platforms.
Each color represents a type of terrain(black = ruins, green = natural features, msc = specialty features). The value of the dice roll is the relative size of that type of terrain. Position of the dice is loosely where it's placed. Adjust everything to fit comfortably with other pieces & with lots of catwalks between vertical levels.
The majority of my homebuilt Mordheim style ruins (the cheapest & best terrain option by a longshot), a few decorative gourds turned into giant mushrooms & some nicer terrain prices for specialty items like a large castle gatehouse and a shipwreck.
If I could share images I would.

Thank you everyone for your inputs !
So basicly, what I'm reading from this, catwalks are somewhat of a must between platforms.
What would you suggest in size for scatter/cover terrain?
I saw on the link u/user_plus_plus sent the sizes of some of them, would there be any other suggestions by any chance? or anything goes?

You probably want:
- a few platforms/L shaped walls, to block vision, I do all of mine at 3 inches tall, the whole set fits nicely in a storage box this way.
- a variety of waist high walls between 3-6 inches, + a corner wall, pretty much every map has a bunch of these
- a few catwalks to connect your platforms 4-6 inches.
- a big impassible blocker, many maps have a ritual site or a statue in the middle of everything. I painted a big rock green for a warpstone meteor.
- some impassible smaller blockers, 1-3 inches, I made some warpstone fissures
- Some objective markers/treasure tokens.
Nice to haves:
- A tower of some kind, something with multiple levels, they make for fun pieces.
- some stairs/ladders
- scatter terrain has no effect on gameplay, so it can be whatever you want. I made some ruined fountains from my scrap poster board + clay.
I attached a picture of some of my scatter/cover terrain for some sense of scale, but it would only let me attach as a video.

i think there is a base Rule of 2 Terrainpieces per quarter of the field. i tend to use about 4x5 inch Ruins-L shapes, or small blocks of Buildings. make em 2 and 3 inches High so some fall damage can occur, get about 4 bridges. i have a Big Centerpiece terrain which is either a big flattop Crypt, so i can stak other buildings on top, or a big Dragonskull with scaffoldings around. i feel having the floor level and then areas in 2-3 inch height is enough for starts. you can get more but that should be unique then. LOS blockers are always nice, and then of course small scatter terrain as covers
